A Comparative Investigation of the Biodegradation Behaviour of Linseed Oil-Based Cross-Linked Composites Filled with Industrial Waste Materials in Two Different Soils

The biodegradation of polymeric biocomposites formed from epoxidized linseed oil and various types of fillers(pine needles,pine bark,grain mill waste,rapeseed cake)and a control sample without filler was studied during 180 days of exposure to two types of forest soil:deciduous and *** weight loss,morphological,and structural changes of polymer composites were noticed after 180 days of the soil burial *** greatest weight loss of all tested samples was observed in coniferous forest soil(41.8%–63.2%),while in deciduous forest soil,it ranged between 37.7%and 42.3%.The most significant changes in the intensities of the signals evaluated by attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy,as well as morphological changes determined by scanning electron microscopy,were assessed for polymer composite with rapeseed cake and specimen without filler in coniferous forest soil and are in a good agreement with weight loss *** significantly lower changes in weight loss,morphology,and structure of polymeric film with pine bark were noticed in both *** was suggested that fungi of Trichoderma,Penicillium,Talaromyces and Clonostachys genera are the possible soil microorganisms that degrade linseed oil-based cross-linked polymer ***,the novel polymer composites have the potential to be an environmentally friendly alternative to petroleum-based mulching films.

Steganography is the science of hiding information within seemingly harmless messages or innocent *** paper addresses the problems of efficient construction of secure steganography in ordinary covert *** relying on any sampling assumption,we provide a general construction of secure steganography under computational *** results show that unpredictability of mapping function in covertext sampler is indispensable for secure stegosystem on indistinguishability against adaptive chosen hiddentext *** completely prove that computationally secure steganography can be constructed on pseudorandom function and unbiased sampling function under ordinary covert channels,that is,its security is inversely proportional to the sum of errors of these two functions,as well as the legth of *** importantly,our research is not dependent upon pseudorandom ciphertext assumption of cryptosystem or perfect sampling ***,our results are practically useful for construction and analysis of secure stegosystems.

Proof of retrievability (POR) is a technique for ensuring the integrity of data in outsourced storage *** this paper,we address the construction of POR protocol on the standard model of interactive proof *** propose the first interactive POR scheme to prevent the fraudulence of prover and the leakage of verified *** also give full proofs of soundness and zero-knowledge properties by constructing a polynomial-time rewindable knowledge extractor under the computational Diffie-Hellman *** particular,the verification process of this scheme requires a low,constant amount of overhead,which minimizes communication complexity.

Background:Grasslands are globally imperiled,facing continued threats from anthropogenic *** remains a common grassland restoration method,and yet,is typically met with limited success,partially because soils of degraded systems inhibit the germination of native ***:We assessed the germination success of 16 native grassland species sown in soils collected from a degraded grassland converted into a nonnative warm‐season perennial grass,Bothriochloa ischaemum,and areas previously subjected to the eradication of this nonnative *** objectives were as follows:(1)determine native seed germination in soils collected from *** or eradication control sites,compared to germination in native grassland soil,and(2)assess if native soil inoculation improves germination,compared to germination in degraded soils without ***:Germination of native species was exceedingly low when seeded into soil dominated by ***,or in soil previously treated with combinations of herbicide and prescribed fire,relative to native grassland ***,amendments with native grassland soil resulted in germination equivalent to native grasslands,alleviating the negative influences of degraded ***:Our results highlight the role of native soil in improving the germination of desirable plant species following intensive management and soil *** research may improve restoration outcomes for managers focused on the conservation and restoration of grasslands.

A general and easy-to-code numerical method based on radial basis functions(RBFs)collocation is proposed for the solution of delay differential equations(DDEs).It relies on the interpolation properties of infinitely smooth RBFs,which allow for a large accuracy over a scattered and relatively small discretization ***’s multiquadric is chosen as RBF and combined with the Residual Subsampling Algorithm of Driscoll and Heryudono for support *** performance of the method is very satisfactory,as demonstrated over a cross-section of benchmark DDEs,and by comparison with existing general-purpose and specialized numerical schemes for DDEs.

It is established in the psychological literature that pre-displacement stressors,PTSD symptoms,and psycholo-gical distress are associated among internally displaced ***,existing studies have not demonstrated the mechanism underlying these *** study compared two explanatory models;one with PTSD symptoms severity explaining the indirect association between pre-displacement stressors and psychological dis-tress,and the other with psychological distress explaining the indirect relationship between pre-displacement stressors and PTSD symptoms *** a cross-sectional design,631 women(Mean age=31.18±8.59)were conveniently and purposely selected from the displaced women harboured in two camps in Borno State,Nigeria,due to the Boko-Haram *** were collected utilizing structured questionnaires and subjected to path *** demonstrated that PTSD symptoms severity and psychological distress indirectly explained their respective and independent association with pre-displacement ***,PTSD symptoms had a statis-tically larger standardized indirect effect size,greater indirect effect percentage,and bigger kappa-squared(k2)effect size than psychological *** symptoms and psychological distress may have a reciprocal inﬂuence on each other from pre-displacement ***,PTSD symptoms can better explain the association between pre-displacement stressors and psychological distress than the other way *** outcomes have important implications for the psychological treatment of displaced persons.

Economists study negotiation as a series of events—partner choice, information gathering, bargaining, etc.—with each step of the process affecting the outcome of the next, and the optimal decision at each stage depending on the player’s bargaining power. The context in which these negotiations occur—the market—is critical, since players can adjust their behaviors in response to outside offers. Animals similarly are faced with sequential decisions regarding courtship: who to court, how to approach a potential mate, at what level to display, when to give up, etc. Thus economic models of negotiation in a market provide a framework in which we can view not just the outcome of courtship (assortative mating), but also the process, where each sex can use tactics to improve their negotiating outcome, using the assets that they have available. Here we propose to use negotiation as a conceptual framework to explore the factors promoting tactical adjustments during sequential stages of courtship in lekking species. Our goal is to discuss the utility of negotiation as a heuristic tool, as well as the promise and peril of co-opting game theoretic models from economics to understand animal interactions. We will provide a brief overview of a few areas where we see promise for using negotiation as a framework to understand animal courtship dynamics: choice of a display territory, tactical partner choice for negotiation, approaching a potential partner and courtship haggling.

Few-Shot Learning Enables Population-Scale Analysis of Leaf Traits in Populus trichocarpa

Plant phenotyping is typically a time-consuming and expensive endeavor,requiring large groups of researchers to meticulously measure biologically relevant plant traits,and is the main bottleneck in understanding plant adaptation and the genetic architecture underlying complex traits at population *** this work,we address these challenges by leveraging few-shot learning with convolutional neural networks to segment the leaf body and visible venation of 2,906 Populus trichocarpa leaf images obtained in the *** contrast to previous methods,our approach(a)does not require experimental or image preprocessing,(b)uses the raw RGB images at full resolution,and(c)requires very few samples for training(e.g.,just 8 images for vein segmentation).Traits relating to leaf morphology and vein topology are extracted from the resulting segmentations using traditional open-source image-processing tools,validated using real-world physical measurements,and used to conduct a genome-wide association study to identify genes controlling the *** this way,the current work is designed to provide the plant phenotyping community with(a)methods for fast and accurate image-based feature extraction that require minimal training data and(b)a new population-scale dataset,including 68 different leaf phenotypes,for domain scientists and machine learning *** of the few-shot learning code,data,and results are made publicly available.
