Germanene nanostrips(GeNss)have garnered significant attention in modern semiconductor technology due to their exceptional physical characteristics,positioning them as promising candidates for a wide range of *** exhibit a two-dimensional(buckled)honeycomb-like lattice,which is similar to germanene but with controllable *** modeling of GeNss is essential for developing appropriate synthesis methods as it enables understanding and controlling the growth process of these ***,one can adjust the strip width,which in turn can tune the bandgap and plasmonic response of the material to meet specific device *** this study,the objective is to investigate the electronic behav-ior and THz plasmon features of GeNss(≥100 nm wide).A semi-analytical model based on the charge-carrier velocity of free-standing germanene is utilized for this *** charge-carrier velocity of freestanding germanene is determined through the GW approximation(V_(F)=0.702×10^(6)m·s^(−1)).Within the width range of 100 to 500 nm,GeNss exhibit narrow bandgaps,typi-cally measuring only a few ***,upon analysis,it was found that the bandgaps of the investigated GeNss ranged between 29 and 6 *** well,these nanostrips exhibit√q-like plasmon dispersions,with their connected plasmonic fre-quency(≤30 THz)capable of being manipulated by varying parameters such as strip width,excitation plasmon angle,and sam-ple *** manipulations can lead to frequency variations,either increasing or decreasing,as well as shifts towards larger momentum *** outcomes of our study serve as a foundational motivation for future experiments,and further con-firmation is needed to validate the reported results.

The information about ecological topics of mosquitoes at the southernmost tip of south America is fragmentary and scarce. The present study evaluates lentic freshwater habitat located in the surroundings of main roads of the Argentine sector of Tierra del Fuego as larval habitat of Ochlerotatus albifasciatus, also analyzes the relationships between their presence and several environmental variables: water turbidity, percentage of gramineans, percentage of macrophytes, presence of crustaceous cyanobacteria, and filamentous chlorophyceans. Mosquito inmatures were collected with dip nets. A generalized linear model (GLM) with negative binomial error distribution was used to determine the effects of different variables of the water bodies on abundance of Oc. albifasciatus in the larval habitats. Collections were made in 45 lentic freshwater bodies. Preimaginal stages were found in 17.70% of the studied habitats. Oc. albifasciatus was the only culicid registered. The GLM explained 93.17% of the variability, and showed a negative relationship between the abundances of Oc. albifasciatus and water turbidity, and a positive relationship with percent-age of gramineans. The gramineans would improve food supply, because the plants are providing suitable substrate for different types of microbiota, a layer of leaves would protect eggs from extreme temperatures, and could help the larvae to hide from potential predators. The negative association between abundance of this species with water turbidity could be related to the presence of vegetation that favors retaining the substrate, reducing water turbidity.

A semi-Field Approach to Testing Botanical Insecticides. Effects of Natural and Analogues Annonaceous Acetogenins on <i>spodoptera frugiperda</i>smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Annonaceous acetogenins enclose a large number of biological activities, among which the insecticidal stands out. spodoptera frugiperda is a pest that affects corn crops among others and has a great capacity to develop resistance to traditional insecticides, which represents sufficient reasons for the search for new alternatives for their control. The objective of this study was to determine the appropriate concentration and screening new natural insecticides against second instar larvae of s. frugiperda, under glasshouse conditions on Zea mays L. Natural products such as annonaceous acetogenins and some acetylated and methoxy methylated ACG derivatives and the commercial product Lambda-cyhalotrin (LC) were evaluated. The percent mortalities of s. frugiperda larvae in glasshouse conditions were recorded after 24, 48 and 72 h of treatment application. The results showed that the acetogenins tested were significantly (P st mortality than untreated check. After 72 h of treatment application the highest percent mortalities were obtained with the mixture of two natural products, rolliniastatin-2 (strong>5strong>) (100 μg/mL) + squamocin (strong>6strong>) (100 μg/mL) + LC (50 μg/mL) that proved the most effective and gave (100%), while rolliniastatin-2 (strong>5strong>) at 100 μg/mL alone, gave lowest percent mortality (65%), followed by squamocin (strong>6strong>) at 100 μg/mL (55%) and LC at 50 μg/mL (30%). The acetylated and methoxy methylated ACGs derivatives caused very low mortality (25% - 35%). It is recommended the mixture as a management option of s. frugiperda as a component of integrated pest management. The results allow us to infer that the addition of natural ACGs synergizes the insecticidal activity of the commercial product. Finding a new ecological alternative for insect control.

AIM To determine the influence of the construction design over the biological component's performance in an experimental bio-artificial liver(BAL) *** Two BAL models for liver microorgans(LMOs) were constructed. First, we constructed a cylindrical BAL and tested it without the biological component to establish its correct functioning. samples of blood and biological compartment(BC) fluid were taken after 0, 60, and 120 min of perfusion. Osmolality, hematocrit, ammonia and glucose concentrations, lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) release(as a LMO viability parameter), and oxygen consumption and ammonia metabolizing capacity(as LMO functionality parameters) were determined. CPsI and OTC gene expression and function were measured. The second BAL, a "flat bottom" model, was constructed using a 25 cm2 culture flask while maintaining all other components between the models. The BC of both BALs had the same capacity(approximately 50 cm3) and both were manipulated with the same perfusion system. The performances of the two BALs were compared to show the influence of *** The cylindrical BAL showed a good exchange of fluids and metabolites between blood and the BC, reflected by the matching of osmolalities, and glucose and ammonia concentration ratios after 120 min of perfusion. No hemoconcentration was detected, the hematocrit levels remained stable during the whole study, and the minimal percentage of hemolysis(0.65% ± 0.10%) observed was due to the action of the peristaltic pump. When LMOs were used as biological component of this BAL they showed similar values to the ones obtained in a Normothermic Reoxygenation system(NRs) for almost all the parameters assayed. After 120 min, the results obtained were: LDH release(%): 14.7 ± 3.1 in the BAL and 15.5 ± 3.2 in the NRs(n = 6); oxygen consumption(μmol/min?g wet tissue): 1.16 ± 0.21 in the BAL and 0.84 ± 0.15 in the NRs(n = 6); relative expression of Cps1 and Otc: 0.63 ± 0.12 and 0.67 ± 0.20, respectively,

BACKGROUND: spinal Cord stimulation (sCs) has been used for chronic refractory pain, however its effectivity on neurovegetative systems has not been evaluated to data. OBJECTIVEs: The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of sCs in patients suffering from refractory neuropathic pain, related to analgesia, quality of life and neurovegetative actions on the digestive and urinary tracts. Fifteen patients acted as their own control related to all evaluations. P s considered significantly. REsULTs: 13 patients completed the study. The incidence of indication was 6% in our Center for Pain Treatment in the Teaching Hospital. The sCs improved quality of life, bowel transit and urinary function, as improved overall analgesia and decreased daily rescue analgesic (p sIONs: In accordance with literature, the incidence of complications was 20%, and sCs improved analgesia and quality of life. In addition, patients also referred to improved bowel activity and urinary function.

Recovery of silver from Cyanide solutions Using Electrochemical Process Like Alternative for Merrill-Crowe Process

The conventional processes for recovery of silver from cyanide leach solutions are the carbon adsorption, the Merrill-Crowe zinc dust cementation, the Ion Exchange, and solvent Extraction processes;among other available options for recovery of precious metals from cyanide solutions, Electrocoagulation (EC) is a very promising electrochemical process that does not require high concentrations of silver in cyanide solutions to yield excellent results and neither pretreatment of cyanide solutions like Merrill-Crowe process (deoxygenating and clarification). The present study has been done for the recovery of silver contained in pregnant solution from the cyanidation process using the electrocoagulation technology with iron electrodes, and therefore develops an alternative technology for Merril-Crowe process. The average silver content in pregnant solution was of 52 ppm, recovery was obtained of 99% of silver, with this optimum operating parameters, pH = 8, residence time = 20 minutes and conductivity by addition of sodium chloride = 4 grs/L. Finally the characterization of the solid products formed during the EC process with X-ray Diffraction and scanning Electronic Microscope was performed, results suggest that magnetite particles and amorphous iron oxyhydroxides are present (Lepidocrocite).

Fatigue strength of Laser Welded Joints of PP and PC Components

The paper describes research of fatigue properties of laser welded joints of PP and PC reinforced composites. Welded specimens were tested on dynamic testing machine to obtain data for fatigue strength and fatigue life evaluation. Materials used for testing were PP and PC plastics filled with various amounts of glass fibers. Nine combinations of PP specimens and 6 combinations of PC specimens were welded and loaded on testing machine by fluctuating stress with constant stress ratio. Presented results include fatigue strength of welded joints and also the s-N curves based on experimental data and theory are derived.

Alzheimer’s disease(AD)is the most common type of dementia,but it is very difficult to diagnose with certainty,so many AD studies have attempted to find early and relevant diagnostic *** upon activation,normal T cell expressed and secreted(RANTEs,also known as C-C chemokine ligand)is a chemokine involved in the migration of T cells and other lymphoid *** in RANTEs levels and its expression in blood or in cerebrospinal fluid have been reported in some neurodegenerative diseases,such as Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis,but also in metabolic diseases in which inflammation plays a *** aim of this observational study was to assess RANTEs levels in peripheral blood as clinical indicators of *** levels of RANTEs were investigated in 85 AD patients in a relatively early phase of AD(median 8.5 months after diagnosis;39 men and 46 women;average age 75.7 years),and in 78 control subjects(24 men and 54 women;average age 66 years).We found much higher plasma levels of RANTEs in AD patients compared to controls.A negative correlation of RANTEs levels with age,disease duration,Fazekas scale score,and the medial temporal lobe atrophy(MTA)score(scheltens’s scale)was found in AD patients,i.e.,the higher levels corresponded to earlier stages of the *** RANTEs levels were not correlated with cognitive *** AD patients,RANTEs levels were positively correlated with the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α,which is consistent with the wellknown fact that AD is associated with inflammatory *** levels were also positively correlated with insulin levels in AD patients,with insulin resistance(HOMA-R)and pancreatic beta cell function(HOMA-F).This study evaluated several clinical and metabolic factors that may affect plasma levels of RANTEs,but these factors could not explain the increases in RANTEs levels observed in AD *** levels of RANTEs appear to be an interesting
