The emerg.ncy room is the entrance door of hospitals for patients who are in risk of life, and the role of the physiotherapist in this area is recog.ized as a qualified member of the team, helping.to reduce the rate and time of orotracheal intubation, judicious use of invasive mechanical ventilation (MV) and non-invasive ventilation (NIV). The objective was to know the profile and performance of physical therapists in the emerg.ncy departments of hospitals in the state of São Paulo. Conducted throug. a semi-structured questionnaire covering.personal and professional aspects, and analyzed and described in percentag. form. Thirty-six questionnaires were analyzed, and it was observed that 92% provide emerg.ncy care, but only 25% work exclusively. Among.the main reasons for admission to this sector are: acute respiratory failure (44%) and decreased level of consciousness (36.1%). Reg.rding.the physiotherapeutic resources used in the emerg.ncy department, 97.2% make use of NIV, followed by monitoring.of MV parameters (94.4%) and modification of parameters (94.4%). We also found that the averag. time of MV in this sector is 3 to 21 days (50%), and that 33% believe there is delay between indication and installation of NIV. The physiotherapist has much to contribute in emerg.ncy units, however, he must be trained throug. the search for technical and scientific knowledg., thus contributing.to the consolidation of this area of expertise.

Spices are defined as any aromatic condiment of plant orig.n used to alter the flavor and aroma of foods. Besides flavor and aroma, many spices have antioxidant activity, mainly related to the presence in cloves of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, terpenoids and eug.nol. In turn, the most common uses of g.m arabic are in the form of powder for addition to soft drink syrups, cuisine and baked g.ods, specifically to stabilize the texture of products, increase the viscosity of liquids and promote the leavening.of baked products (e.g., cakes). Both eug.nol, extracted from cloves, and g.m arabic, extracted from the hardened sap of two species of the Acacia tree, are dietary constituents routinely consumed virtually throug.out the world. Both of them are also widely used medicinally to inhibit oxidative stress and g.notoxicity. The prevention arm of the study included g.oups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental g.oups received DMH at 20 mg.kg.s.c. During.the same period and for an additional 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% g., EUg. or 10% g. + EUg.by g.vag.. The treatment arm of the study included g.oups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental g.oups received DMH at 20 mg.kg.s.c. During.the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% g., EUg.or 10% g. + EUg.by g.vag.. The novelty of this study is the investig.tion of their use alone and tog.ther for the prevention and treatment of experimental colorectal carcinog.nesis induced by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the combined use of 10% g.m arabic and eug.nol was effective, with antioxidant action in the colon, as well as reducing.oxidative stress in all colon seg.ents and preventing.and treating.g.notoxicity in all colon seg.ents.
