The <i>LA = U</i>Dec.mposition Method for Solving Systems of Linear Equations

A method for solving systems of linear equations is presented based on direc. dec.mposition of the c.effic.ent matrix using the form LAX = LB = B’ . Elements of the reduc.ng lower triangular matrix L c.n be determined using either row wise or c.lumn wise operations and are demonstrated to be sums of permutation produc.s of the Gauss pivot row multipliers. These sums of permutation produc.s c.n be c.nstruc.ed using a tree struc.ure that c.n be easily memorized or alternatively c.mputed using matrix produc.s. The method requires only storage of the L matrix whic. is half in size c.mpared to storage of the elements in the LU dec.mposition. Equivalenc. of the proposed method with both the Gauss elimination and LU dec.mposition is also shown in this paper.

A variable c.lorine dec.y rate modeling of the Matsapha town water network was developed based on initial c.lorine dosages. The model was adequately desc.ibed by a sec.nd order rate func.ion of the c.lorine dec.y rate with respec. to the initial c.lorine dose applied. Simulations of c.lorine residuals within the Matsapha water distribution network were run using the EPANET 2.0 program at different initial c.lorine dosages and using the variable dec.y rate as desc.ibed by the sec.nd order model. The measurement results indic.ted that the use of c.nstant dec.y rate tended to underestimate c.lorine residuals leading to potentially exc.ss dosages with the assoc.ated c.emic.l c.st and side effec.s. The error between the two rate models varied between 0% and 15%. It is suggested that the use of water quality simulation programs suc. as EPANET be enhanc.d through the extension programs that ac.ommodate variable rate modeling of c.lorine residuals within distribution systems.

A fully probabilistic.seismic.risk assessment was developed in Manizales, c.lombia, c.nsidering assets of different types. The first type inc.udes elements that are part of the water and sewage network, and the sec.nd type inc.udes public.and private buildings. This assessment required the development of a probabilistic.seismic.hazard analysis that ac.ounts for the dynamic.soil response,assembling high resolution exposure databases, and the development of damage models for different types of elements. The ec.nomic.appraisal of the exposed assets was developed together with spec.alists of the water utilities c.mpany of Manizales and the c.ty administration. The risk assessment was performed using several c.mprehensive Approac. to Probabilistic.Risk Assessment modules as well as the R-System, obtaining results in terms of traditional metric. suc. as loss exc.edanc. c.rve, average annual loss, and probable maximum loss. For the c.se of pipelines, repair rates were also estimated. The results for the water and sewage network were used in ac.ivities related to the expansion and maintenanc. strategies, as well as for the exploration of financ.al retention and transfer alternatives using insuranc. sc.emes based on tec.nic.l,probabilistic. and prospec.ive damage and loss *** the c.se of the buildings, the results were used in the update of the tec.nic.l premium values of the existing c.llec.ive insuranc. sc.eme.

The hepatitis c.virus (Hc.) infec.ed patients are prone to develop bone marrow or various tissue infiltrates with monoc.onal B c.lls, monoc.onal B lymphoc.tosis or different types of B c.ll non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (Bc.HL), of whic. the most c.mmon are splenic.marginal zone Bc.HL, diffuse large Bc.HL and follic.lar lymphoma. The assoc.ation between c.ronic.Hc. infec.ion and non Hodgkin’s lymphoma has been observed espec.ally in areas with high prevalenc. of this viral infec.ion. Outside the limitations of some studies that have been c.nduc.ed, there are also geographic. environmental, and genetic.fac.ors that c.ntribute to the epidemiologic.l differenc.s. Various mic.oenvironmental signals, suc. as c.tokines, viral antigenic.external stimulation of lymphoc.te rec.ptors by Hc. antigens, and interc.llular interac.ions c.ntribute to B c.ll proliferation. Hc. lymphotropism and c.ronic.antigenic.stimulation are involved in B-lymphoc.te expansion, as mixted c.yoglobulinemia or monoc.onal gammopathy of undetermined signific.nc., whic. c.n progress to Bc.HL. Hc. replic.tion in B lymphoc.tes has onc.genic.effec. mediated by intrac.llular Hc. proteins. It is also involved in an important induc.ion of reac.ive oxygen spec.es that c.n lead to permanent B lymphoc.te damage, as DNA mutations, after binding to surfac. B-c.ll rec.ptors. Post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorder c.uld appear and it has a multic.onal potentiality that may develop into different types of lymphomas. The hematopoietic.stem c.ll transplant made for lymphoma in Hc.-infec.ed patients c.n inc.ease the risk of earlier progression to liver fibrosis and c.rrhosis. Hc. infec.ed patients with indolent Bc.HL who rec.ive antiviral therapy c.n be potentially c.red. Viral c.earanc. was related to lymphoma response, fac. that highlights the probable involvement of Hc. in lymphomagenesis. Air temperature and photoperiod play an important role in the seedling development for tropic.l forest *** variables are sensitive to c.imate,and so evaluating thermal and photoperiodic.effec.s on seedling development is fundamental,espec.ally for c.imate c.ange *** to quantify thermal time and the energy required for plants to reac. a development stage inc.ude air temperature and c.rdinal *** photoperiod will also affec. physiologic.l reac.ions of a plant and thus its *** we evaluated the six thermal time methods widely used to c.mpute thermal requirement,and identified the influenc. of the photoperiod from the 2015 and2016 growing seasons and 12 sowing dates in Itajubá,Minas Gerais state,Brazil,on seedling development of three native tropic.l forest spec.es Psidium guajava L.(Myrtac.ae),c.tharexylum myrianthum c.am.(Verbenac.ae),and Bixa orellana L.(Bixac.ae).The method used to quantify thermal time influenc.d the analytic.l results of seedling development;the one that c.nsidered three c.rdinal temperatures and c.mpared them with the mean air temperature(Method5)performed better in c.mputing thermal *** influenc. of photoperiod on seedling development was inc.nc.usive for the three spec.es,but all three developed better in mild temperatures(between 13.3℃and 26.9℃)with a photoperiod shorter than 13 h.

Diabetic. with unilateral lower extremity amputation (LEA) have an inc.eased risk of c.ntralateral re-amputation. Foot c.re knowledge and prac.ic. has been shown to reduc. the inc.denc. of amputation. The study aims to assess the level of foot c.re knowledge among diabetic. with unilateral LEA. Method: A questionnaire based study involving diabetic. with unilateral LEA from August 2015 to August 2017. Demographic.data and level of foot c.re knowledge were assessed. Assoc.ations between age, gender, educ.tional level, prior amputation and duration of diabetes with level of foot c.re knowledge were investigated. The presenc. of peripheral neuropathy in the c.ntralateral leg was also assessed. Results: A total of 64 patients had unilateral LEA within this period, but only 42 patients c.mpleted the study. Twenty-four, 24 (57.1%) were males while 18 (42.9%) were females. Mean age was 58.3 years (SD = 12.0). Fifteen, 15 (35.7%) had sec.ndary, 15 (35.7%) had tertiary educ.tion, while 3 (7.1%) and 9 (21.4%) had none and primary educ.tion respec.ively. Below knee amputation (BKA) was the c.mmonest (78.6%), and 35.7% have had a prior amputation. Peripheral neuropathy was present in 71.4% of c.ses. No partic.pant had a good level of foot c.re knowledge, while 13 (31%) have a fair knowledge and 29 (69%) have poor knowledge. Only 18 (42%) said they have been taught on foot c.re. Only duration of diabetes and educ.tional level were signific.ntly assoc.ated with level of foot c.re knowledge. c.nc.usion: Diabetic. with unilateral LEA have poor knowledge of foot c.re and a high prevalenc. of peripheral neuropathy. Efforts at educ.tion of these susc.ptible c.horts should be intensified.
