Enhanced removal of organic matter and typical disinfection byproduct precursors in combined iron–carbon micro electrolysis-UBAF process for drinking water pre-treatment

The organic matter and two types of disinfection byproduct(DBP) precursors in micropolluted source water were removed using an iron–carbon micro-electrolysis(ICME)combined with up-flow biological aerated filter(UBAF) process. Two pilot-scale experiments(ICME-UBAF and UBAF alone) were used to investigate the effect of the ICME system on the removal of organic matter and DBP precursors. The results showed that ICME pretreatment removed 15.6% of dissolved organic matter(DOM)and significantly improved the removal rate in the subsequent UBAF process. The ICME system removed 31% of trichloromethane(TCM) precursors and 20% of dichloroacetonitrile(DCAN) precursors. The results of measurements of the molecular weight distribution and hydrophilic fractions of DOM and DBP precursors showed that ICME pretreatment played a key role in breaking large-molecular-weight organic matter into low-molecular-weight components, and the hydrophobic fraction into hydrophilic compounds, which was favorable for subsequent biodegradation by ***-dimensional fluorescence spectroscopy(3D-EEM) further indicated that the ICME system improved the removal of TCM and DCAN precursors. The biomass analysis indicated the presence of a larger and more diverse microbial community in the ICME-UBAF system than for the UBAF alone. The high-throughput sequencing results revealed that domination of the genera Sphingomonas, Brevundimonas and Sphingorhabdus contributed to the better removal of organic matter and two types of DBP precursors. Also, Nitrosomonas and Pseudomonas were beneficial for ammonia removal.

3D analytical solution for a rotating transversely isotropic annular plate of functionally graded materials

The analytical solution for an annular plate rotating at a constant angular velocity is derived by means of direct displacement method from the elasticity equations for axisymmetric problems of functionally graded transversely isotropic media. The displacement components are assumed as a linear combination of certain explicit functions of the radial coordinate, with seven undetermined coefficients being functions of the axial coordinate z. Seven equations governing these z-dependent functions are derived and solved by a progressive integrating scheme. The present solution can be degenerated into the solution of a rotating isotropic functionally graded annular plate. The solution also can be degenerated into that for transversely isotropic or isotropic homogeneous materials. Finally, a special case is considered and the effect of the material gradient index on the elastic field is illustrated numerically.

A grading parameter for evaluating the grading-dependence of the shear stiffness of granular aggregates

To capture the grading-dependence of the shear stiffness of heterogeneous granular aggregates, a new grading parameter that considered the size distribution of the entire aggregates was developed. Both the coefficient of uniformity and median particle size decreased with increasing the grading parameter. A general increase of the shear stiffness with increasing the grading parameter was observed. Compari- son with experimental results revealed that the proposed grading parameter had a stronger correlation with the material constants of Hardin＇s stiffness formula than the coefficient of uniformity, which is a traditional grading parameter.

Topological materials are known for their exotic properties. Topological insulators have gapless modes on their surfaces despite having perfectly insulating bulk, and these surface modes cannot be gapped or localized as long as time-reversal symmetry is preserved [1]; topological semimetals host ‘Fermi arcs’ on their surfaces and exhibit quantum anomalies in their bulk [2]. The physical quantity underlying these distinct properties is the topological invariant, the defining quantum number of any topological material.

针对大多数光致变色染料对纤维的亲和力不高,并且对染色条件的作用较敏感,易受温度、溶剂、pH值、光照等因素的影响,存在耐光色牢度差、强度差、不可逆变色等问题,导致光致变色纺织面料美观性差,使用寿命短。使用浸渍法制备光致变色棉织物,探讨染色温度、溶剂种类对光致变色棉织物性能的影响。结果表明:30℃时,以乙醇作为溶剂染色上染率高,染色效果好,变色及显色效果最佳;光致变色整理前后棉织物性能,如厚度、顶破强力、透气性等无明显变化。

Antibacterial activity of the essential oils from the leaves of Eucalyptus globulus against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus

Objective:To examine the in vitro antimicrobial activities of essential oil of the leaves of Eucalyptus globulus(***).Methods:The essential oils of this plant were obtained by the hydrodistillation *** inhibitory effects of this essential oil were tested against Escherichia coli(***)and Staphylococcus aureus(***)by using agar disc diffusion and dilution broth ***:The results obtained showed that essential oil of the leaves of *** has antimicrobial activity against gram negative bacteria(***)as well as gram positive bacteria(***).Conclusion:The encouraging results indicate the essential oil of *** leaves might be exploited as natural antibiotic for the treatment of several infectious diseases caused by these two germs,and could be useful in understanding the relations between traditional cures and current medicines.

Suppression of Surface Burn in grinding of Titanium Alloy TC4 Using a Self-inhaling Internal Cooling Wheel

Based on analysis of surface average temperature and burn degree, this article obtains the threshold temperature of surface burn in grinding titanium alloy with cup wheels. Meanwhile, the impact of the burn degree on the metallographic structure of workpiece surface and metallurgical phase transformations is investigated. In order to reduce the grinding temperature and improve the grinding efficiency, a self-inhaling structure cup segmented wheel is developed to generate internal cooling effect. The internal cooling technology is compared with traditional cooling conditions in the grinding experiments on TC4 （Ti-6Al-4V）. The results indicate that the self-inhaling internal cooling wheel can reduce the grinding surface temperature by 30% or more, and the grinding efficiency doubles. Utilizing water-based semi-synthetic coolant, the segmented wheel with the self-inhaling structure can further reduce the grinding temperature by about 50%.

Practical compensation for nonlinear dynamic thrust measurement system

The real dynamic thrust measurement system usually tends to be nonlinear due to the complex characteristics of the rig, pipes connection, etc. For a real dynamic measuring system, the nonlinearity must be eliminated by some adequate methods. In this paper, a nonlinear model of dynamic thrust measurement system is established by using radial basis function neural network （RBF-NN）, where a novel multi-step force generator is designed to stimulate the nonlinearity of the system, and a practical compensation method for the measurement system using left inverse model is proposed. Left inverse model can be considered as a perfect dynamic compensation of the dynamic thrust measurement system, and in practice, it can be approximated by RBF-NN based on least mean square （LMS） algorithms. Different weights are set for producing the multi-step force, which is the ideal input signal of the nonlinear dynamic thrust measurement system. The validity of the compensation method depends on the engine＇s performance and the tolerance error 0.5%, which is commonly demanded in engineering. Results from simulations and experiments show that the practical compensation using left inverse model based on RBF-NN in dynamic thrust measuring system can yield high tracking accuracy than the conventional methods.

1 geology CARLJN-TYPE gold deposits (CTDs) consist of extremely fine-grained gold that is generally submicron topossibly atomic in size. Most of the gold is hosted by hydrothermal arsenian pyrite and quartz, with lesseramounts present in carbonaceous matter and fine-grained phyllosilicates. In the great Basin, the hostrocks consist primarily of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks, although few deposits are located primarily inyounger sedimentary rocks and minor mineralization also occurs in igneous rocks in some *** most common host rock types are silty carbonates to calcareous siltstones and calcareous shales. Manydeposits are spatially associated with matured hydrocarbon accumulations (kerogen), but it is unclearwhether these hydrocarbons played an active or passive role in ore depositional process.
