Reduced combustion time model for methane in gas turbine flow fields

Computational fluid dynamics （CFD） modeling of the complex processes that occur within the burner of a gas turbine engine has become a critical step in the design process. However, due to computer limitations, it is very difficult to completely couple the fluid mechanics solver with the full combustion chemistry. Therefore, simplified chemistry models are required, and the topic of this research was to provide reduced chemistry models for CH4/O2 gas turbine flow fields to be integrated into CFD codes for the simulation of flow fields of natural gas-fueled burners. The reduction procedure for the CH4/O2 model utilized a response modeling technique wherein the full mechanism was solved over a range of temperatures, pressures, and mixture ratios to establish the response of a particular variable, namely the chemical reaction time. The conditions covered were between 1000 and 2500 K for temperature, 0.1 and 2 for equivalence ratio in air, and 0.1 and 50 atm for pressure. The kinetic time models in the form of ignition time correlations are given in Arrhenius-type formulas as functions of equivalence ratio, temperature, and pressure; or fuel-to-air ratio, temperature, and pressure. A single ignition time model was obtained for the entire range of conditions, and separate models for the low-temperature and high-temperature regions as well as for fuel-lean and rich cases were also derived. Predictions using the reduced model were verified using results from the full mechanism and empirical correlations from experiments. The models are intended for （but not limited to） use in CFD codes for flow field simulations of gas turbine combustors in which initial conditions and degree of mixedness of the fuel and air are key factors in achieving stable and robust combustion processes and acceptable emission levels. Fluorescence active fused-triazole was developed as a ligand in gold(I) cation coordination. The coordination ability was evaluated using NMR and fluorescence emission. Our previously reported N-2-aryl-triazoles, though gave good emission, could not form stable complexes with gold cations. A new N-fused-triazole(NFT) derivative was prepared and the ligand indicated good fluorescence emission, and formed strong coordination with gold cations. Both ligand and complex were characterized by X-ray crystallography. Fluorescence properties of various gold complexes(with different primary ligands) were evaluated, which suggested the feasibility of using fluorescence emission as potential tools for future mechanistic investigation.

It is likely that the majority of proteins will undergo post-translational modification, be it enzymatic or non-enzymatic. These modified protein(s) regulate activity, localization and interaction with other cellular molecules thereby maintaining cellular hemostasis. Alcohol exposure significantly alters several of these post-translational modifications leading to impairments of many essential physiological processes. Here, we present new insights into novel modifications following ethanol exposure and their role in the initiation and progression of liver injury. This critical review condenses the proceedings of a symposium at the European Society for the Biomedical Research on Alcoholism Meeting held September 12-15, 2015, in Valencia, Spain.

Clinical and dietary predictors of common carotid artery intima media thickness in a population with type 1 and type 2 diabetes: A cross-sectional study

AIM To determine the clinical and dietary predictors of common carotid artery intima media thickness(CCA IMT) in a cohort of subjects with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. METHODS Participants with type 1(n = 23) and type 2 diabetes(n = 127) had mean and mean maximum CCA IMT measured using B mode ultrasound. Dietary intake was measured using a food frequency questionnaire. Clinical and dietary predictors of mean and mean maximum CCA IMT were determined using linear regression analysis adjusted for potential confounders. RESUlTS The main predictors of mean and mean maximum CCA IMT were age and weight. After multivariate adjustment there were no dietary predictors of CCA IMT. However,in subjects that were not prescribed a lipid lowering medication alcohol consumption was positively associated with CCA IMT after multivariate adjustment. No difference existed in CCA IMT between subjects with type 1 or type 2 diabetes once age was adjusted for. CONClUSION CCA IMT was predominantly predicted by age and weight in these subjects with diabetes. The finding that CCA IMT was not different between people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes warrants further investigation in a larger cohort.

Here we present a docking model that ranks compounds according to their potential effectiveness as a potential substrate or inhibitor. We utilize xanthine oxidase (XO), a multi-cofactor oxido-reductase which converts hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid. During the reductive half reaction, electrons flow from the molybdopterin, to each of two Fe/S centers, and finally to FAD. During the oxidative half reaction, electrons are passed from the FAD to O2. Under ideal physiological conditions, this reduction of oxygen generates H2O2 and, under multiple turnover conditions, superoxide in amounts which is regulated by catalase and superoxide dismutase. Utilizing computer modeling predictions of the docking orientations and energies of a group of purine based structures was selected. Correlating computer estimations with steady state kinetic data, a rapid screening process for inhibittor prediction was highlighted. This method allows educated selection of likely inhibitors, thereby decreasing the time and supplies required to complete a traditional kinetic analysis screening. Results demonstrate the functionality and reliability of this method and have proven particularly useful in understanding binding orienttations or poses of each compound.

In order to enhance promising properties of polyethertherketone (PEEK) for biomedical application, we evaluate two different strategies for the provision of PEEK with a drug delivery system at the example of the model drug chlorhexidine diacetate. On one hand we discuss the deposition of a biodegradable polymeric drug-release coating, based on well-established poly(l-lactide) (PllA), on PEEK and on the other hand the modification of PEEK via sulfonation and its subsequent drug loading. Results are compared to pure PllA-associated drug delivery systems and limits and perspectives are shown.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the large Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATlAS Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATlAS *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 geV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

Alspach的研究已经证明：除了P(n,k)(n≡5(mod6);k=2,(n-1)/2,(n+1)/2,n-2)和P(n, n/2)(n≡0(mod4);n≥8)两种情形，广义petersen图都是哈密尔顿的。本文在此基础上，考虑了这两种情形下的哈密尔顿指数，并证明了：P(n,k)(n≡5(mod6);k=2,(n-1)/2,(n+1)/2,n-2)的哈密尔顿指数为1;P(n,n/2)(n≡0(mod4);n≥8)的哈密尔顿指数为2。至此，广义petersen图的哈密尔顿指数问题得到完全解决。

With the increasing availability of large-area graphene, the ability to rapidly and accurately assess the quality of the electrical properties has become critically important. For practical applications, spatial variability in carrier density and carrier mobility must be controlled and minimized. We present a simple framework for assessing the quality and homogeneity of large-area graphene devices. The field effect in both exfoliated graphene devices encapsulated in hexagonal boron nitride and chemical vapor-deposited （CVD） devices was measured in dual current-voltage configurations and used to derive a single, gate-dependent effective shape factor, t, for each device, β is a sensitive indicator of spatial homogeneity that can be obtained from samples of arbitrary shape. All 50 devices investigated in this study show a variation （up to tenfold） in β as a function of the gate bias. Finite element simulations suggest that spatial doping inhomogeneity, rather than mobility inhomogeneity, is the primary cause of the gate dependence of β, and that measurable variations of β can be caused by doping variations as small as 10^10 cm^-2. Our results suggest that local variations in the position of the Dirac point alter the current flow and thus the effective sample shape as a function of the gate bias. We also found that such variations lead to systematic errors in carrier mobility calculations, which can be revealed by inspecting the corresponding β factor.
