Human wetland dependency and socio-economic evaluation of wetland functions through participatory approach in rural India

Wetlands are an important source of natural resources upon which rural economies depend. They have increasingly been valuable for their goods and services, and the intrinsic ecological value they provide to local populations, as well as people living outside the periphery of the wetlands. Stakeholders＇ participation is essential to the protection and preservation of wetlands because it plays a very important role economically as well as ecologically in the wetland system. The objective of this study was to determine whether gender, educational status, mouzas （which are constituents of a block according to the land reform of the West Bengal government in India）, and wetland functions have any influence on the annual income of the local community. Considering a floodplain wetland in rural India, the focus was extended to recognize the pattern of wetland functions according to the nature of people＇s involvement through cluster analysis of the male and female populations. Using the statistical software R-2.8.1, an ANOVA （analysis of variance） table was constructed. Since the p value （significance level） was lower than 0.05 for each case, it can be concluded that gender, educational status, mouzas, and wetland functions have a significant influence on annual income. However, S-PLUS-2000 was applied to obtain a complete scenario of the pattern of wetland functions, in terms of involvement of males and females, through cluster analysis. The main conclusion is that gender, educational status, mouzas, and wetland functions have significant impacts on annual income, while the pattern of occupation of the local community based on wetland functions is completely different for the male and female populations.

Recently,carbon-based metal-free electrocatalysts(C‐MFECs)have drawn considerable research attention because of their attractive physicochemical characteristics,cost-effectiveness,and ability to convert and store energy *** intramolecular charge transfer among different parts of the carbon electrocatalyst and/or intermolecular charge transfer between elec-trocatalyst and electrolyte dictate the ultimate energy conversion *** results and theoretical analyses have demonstrated that rational design of metal-free carbon nanomaterials,coupled with proper in-tramolecular charge transfer through heteroatom doping,incorporation of Stone-Wales defects,and/or intermolecular charge transfer through adsorp-tion of appropriate molecules/moieties,can promote efficient *** this article,we will first provide the related theoretical principles and then present an overview on the rational design and development of C-MFECs for efficient charge transfer,followed by elucidating charge-transfer processes for different electrocatalytic reactions related to renewable energy conversion and environmental remediation ***,the current challenges and future perspectives in this exciting field will be discussed.

Segregation characteristics of irregular binaries in gas solid fluidized beds——An ANN-approach

Binary mixtures of irregular materials of different particle sizes and/or particle densities are fluidized in a 15-cm diameter column with a perforated plate distributor. An attempt has been made in this work to determine the segregation characteristics of jetsam particles for both the homogeneous and heterogeneous binary mixtures in terms of segregation distance by correlating it to the various system parameters, viz. initial static bed height, height of a layer of particles above the bottom grid, superficial gas velocity and average particle size and/or particle densities of the mixture through the dimensional analysis. Correlation on the basis of Artificial Neural Network approach has also been developed with the above system parameters thereby authenticating the development of correlation by the former approach. The calculated values of the segregation distance obtained for both the homogeneous and heterogeneous binary mixtures from both the types of ftuidized beds （i.e. under the static bed condition and the ftuidized bed condition） have also been compared with each other.

Effect of sintering temperature on the chemical bonding,electronic structure and electrical transport properties of β-ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds

A model system,which is based on iron(Fe)doped gallium oxide(ga_(2)O_(3))(ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3)),has been considered to elucidate the combined effect of transition-metal ion doping and processing temperature on the chemistry,local structure and chemical bonding,and electrical transport properties of a wide band gap oxide(ga_(2)O_(3)).The ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds were synthesized using standard high-temperature solid state reaction *** effect of processing conditions in terms of different calcination and sintering environments on the structural and electrical properties of ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds is studied in *** characterization by Raman spectroscopy revealed that ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds exhibit monoclinic crystal symmetry,which is quite similar to the intrinsic parental crystal structure,though Fedoping induces lattice *** temperature(T_(sint))which was varied in the range of 900-1200℃,has significant impact on the structure,chemical bonding,and electrical properties of ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** spectroscopic measurements indicate the proper densification of the ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds achieved through complete Fe diffusion into the parent ga_(2)O_(3) lattice which is evident at the highest sintering *** X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy validates the chemical states of the constituent elements in ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) *** electrical properties of ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) fully controlled by T_(sint),which governed the grain size and microstructural *** temperature and frequency dependent electrical measurements demonstrated the salient features of the Fe doped ga_(2)O_(3) *** activation energy determined from Arrhenius equation is 0.5 e *** results demonstrate that control over structure,morphology,chemistry and electrical properties of the ga_(1.9)Fe_(0.1)O_(3) compounds can be achieved by optimizing T_(sint).

Paradoxical role of Id proteins in regulating tumorigenic potential of lymphoid cells

A family of transcription factors known as Id proteins, or inhibitor of DNA binding and differentiation, is capable of regulating cell proliferation, survival and differentiation, and is often upregulated in multiple types of tumors. Due to their ability to promote self-renewal, Id proteins have been considered as oncogenes, and potential therapeutic targets in cancer models. On the contrary, certain Id proteins are reported to act as tumor suppressors in the development of Burkitt＇s lymphoma in humans, and hepatosplenic and innate-like T cell lymphomas in mice. The contexts and mechanisms by which Id proteins can serve in such contradictory roles to determine tumor outcomes are still not well understood. In this review, we explore the roles of Id proteins in lymphocyte development and tumorigenesis, particularly with respect to inhibition of their canonical DNA binding partners known as E proteins. Transcriptional regulation by E proteins, and their antagonism by Id proteins, act as gatekeepers to ensure appropriate lymphocyte development at key checkpoints. We re-examine the derailment of these regulatory mechanisms in lymphocytes that facilitate tumor development. These mechanistic insights can allow better appreciation of the context-dependent roles of Id proteins in cancers and improve considerations for therapy.

The purpose of the present paper is to study the entropy hs（Ф） of a quantum dynamical systems Ф = （ L, s, Ф）, where s is a bayessian state on an orthomodular lattice L. Having introduced the notion of entropy hs（ Ф, A） of partition A of a Boolean algebra B with respect to a state s and a state preserving homomorphism Ф, we prove a few results on that, define the entropy of a dynamical system hs（Ф）, and show its invariance. The concept of sufficient families is also given and we establish that hs （Ф） comes out to be equal to the supremum of hs （Ф,A）, where A varies over any sufficient family. The present theory has then been extended to the quantum dynamical system （ L, s, Ф）, which as an effect of the theory of commutators and Bell inequalities can equivalently be replaced by the dynamical system （B, s0, Ф）, where B is a Boolean algebra and so is a state on B.

Awareness,practice and views about integrating AYUSH in allopathic curriculum of allopathic doctors and interns in a tertiary care teaching hospital in New Delhi,India

Objective： To assess the knowledge, attitude, perception and practice of Ayurveda, yoga, Unani, Siddha, homeopathy and naturopathy （AYUSH） among allopathic doctors and interns and determine their opin- ion regarding integration of AYUSH education within the allopathic curriculum. Methods： This prospective, cross sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care teaching Hospital, New Delhi, India, from March 2016 to March 2017. A survey of 500 aUopathic doctors and 150 interns was performed using a structured questionnaire. Results： A majority of doctors （95.2%） were aware of the term AYUSH and had knowledge of yoga （70.6%）, homeopathy （55.6%）, Ayurveda （50.3%）, Siddha （47.8%）, naturopathy （32.9%） and Unani （28.9%）. Most of the participants （63.0%） felt that therapies under AYUSH are effective. A majority （84.0%） of the doctors were of the view that more research is required in the field of AYUSH. While homeopathy （44.0%） was the most common system used by doctors for themselves, yoga was the therapy most commonly （60.0%） recommended to patients. Nearly half of the doctors （46.7%） recommended AYUSH to their patients, mainly for chronic illness （74.0%）. A majority （77.5%） of the respondents agreed that students of allopathic med- icine should be familiarized with AYUSH. The modes of incorporation of AYUSH into the medical curriculum most commonly suggested by respondents were optional courses （54.5%） and introductory lectures （42.3%）. Conclusion： Doctors and interns ofallopathic medicine are aware of AYUSH systems. They use it for them- selves and recommend it to patients. They believe that familiarization of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery students with AYUSH therapies and their integration with allopathic medicine may help in improving patient care.

This paper studies a time-variant multi-objective linear fractional transportation problem. In reality, transported goods should reach in destinations within a specific time. Considering the importance of time, a time-variant multi-objective linear fractional transportation problem is formulated here. We take into account the parameters as cost, supply and demand are interval valued that involved in the proposed model, so we treat the model as a multi-objective linear fractional interval transportation problem. To solve the formulated model, we first convert it into a deterministic form using a new transformation technique and then apply fuzzy programming to solve it. The applicability of our proposed method is shown by considering two numerical examples. At last, conclusions and future research directions regarding our study is included.

Discharge water temperature assessment of thermal power plantusing remote sensing techniques

Thermal power plants are generally constructed near to sea coast to meet their requirement of coolingwater. The warm water discharge from the thermal power plant is one of the major environmentalconcerns in view of the thermal pollution in the sea water. The temperature limit for the warm waterdischarge from the thermal power plant has to be monitored and controlled. Coastal gujarat PowerLimited (CgPL) operates (24×7) at an “once-through system” based sea water circulation for powergeneration. The used sea water is then discharged into the sea through an outlet channel. As per environmental norms, the discharge water temperature needs to be maintained below the stipulated “delta”rise (+7 ℃) with respect to ambient sea surface temperature at the inlet. We demonstrate the applicability of thermal remote sensing data in understanding the seasonal and temporal variations of thetemperature difference between the discharge water and the ambient sea water. We used thermal banddata from Landsat-8 satellite imagery to map water surface temperature and create temperature profilesalong the intake and outflow channels (till the sea), to understand the variation of temperature andestimate the “DT” between intake point and various observation points along the outflow. This analysiswas carried out for all 11 months (except June) of the year 2018 to correlate temperature variations withseasonal changes. Tidal conditions during the time of data acquisition were also considered to accountfor the effect of tides on DT. The result shows that the average temperature rise between intake andoutflow are maintained at ~3 ℃ across all the months of 2018, with minor variations in the months ofJuly and August. Further, average temperature drop from outflow to cooling channel (before diaphragm)is seen to be ~2 ℃ across all the months with similar seasonal fluctuations.
