The role of monoamines in modulating behavior

Understanding the mechanisms underlying complex behaviors re- quires a comprehensive investigation of the neurobiological factors that regulate and modulate their expression. Monoamines, such as serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline, serve a variety of essential physiological roles in modulating animal behavior. Furthermore, the evolutionary conservation of these aminergic systems spans across both vertebrates and invertebrates, having comparable effects in such diverse processes as learning and memory, aggression, mating behaviors and reproduction, stress responses, locomotion, and col- lective social behaviors （Dishman 1997; Libersat and Pflueger 2004; Kamhi and Traniello 2013; Bubak et al. 2014a; De Boer et al. 2015）. Outstanding research is currently being conducted in this field, uncovering remarkable similarities in neural circuitries even among highly divergent taxa, such as Drosophila and humans. Investigating the neural mechanisms involved in the monoaminerglc modulation of behavior across a variety of taxonomically distant species can provide researchers with a better understanding of the origins and functions of these systems. The goal of this special issue is to provide a venue in which colleagues studying similar questions across highly divergent animal systems can present their recent and groundbreaking work in this exciting area of biology. We hope this collection of papers will encourage and stimulate a dialogue on the similarities of monoaminergic function in a wide variety of animals and ultimately promote future comparative approaches when inves- tigating behavioral modulation.

Humans and wildlife are exposed to an ever-increasing array of man-made chemicals that are now meas-ured in every habitat on our planet from the Earth＇s hig.est mountain peaks to sediments in the deep ocean （e.g., Farrington and Takada, 2014; Quiroz et al., 2009; Veron et al., 1987; Villa et al., 2006）. In addition to the expanding variety of synthetic chemistries in use, there are many substances that are components of the Earth that may through human activities concentrate at high- levels or be released into the environment in forms that enhance their bioavailability, exposure, and toxicity potential.

This Special Issue is directed to reviewing the lessons learned from the most public, fervent and durable controversy in the short history of Andrology, the claims of world-wide falling sperm counts, due to global pollution by industrial estrogenic chemicals, published two decades ago.

Two-echelon imperfect production supply chain with probabilistic deterioration rework and reliability under fuzziness

This paper develops an integrated fuzzy two-layer supply chain for manufacturersand retailers with defective and non-defective types of products. The manufacturerproduces up to a specific time, including both faulty and non-defective items, andpost-screening only the non-defective item sends to the retailer. The strategy of theretailer is to do the screening of items received from the ***, the perfect quality items use to fulfill the demand of thecustomer, and the defective items are reworked. The retailer considers thatcustomer demand is time and reliability dependent. The proposed supply chainconsiders probabilistic deterioration for the manufacturer and retailers. Theoptimum solution of the given model is evaluated for both the cases of crispand fuzzy environments on the strategies such as production rate, unitproduction cost, idle time, screening, rework, etc. Managerial insights and theeffect of parameters on the optimal inventory under fuzziness are presented.

The Asian Journal of Andrology （AJA） is growing at a fast pace and becoming one of the leading journals in the field of andrology thanks to the leadership of Prof. Yi-Fei Wang, Editor-in-Chief of AJA, and the hard work of the AJA editorial staff. It was the spring of 2006 in Chicago when Ms. Dan-Qing Ren, Scientific Editor of the AJA, first approached us at the 31 st American Society of Andrology （ASA） Annual Meeting regarding publishing a special issue on men＇s health. We were honored by the invitation to be g.est editors for this special issue. We discussed potential topics with many of the contributors while Ms. Qin-Zhu Zheng, Editorial Director of the AJA worked out the details and met with us at the 32nd ASA Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida. We are very pleased to present this issue of superior articles with contributions by internationally recognized authorities.
