As government agenc.es c.ntinue to tighten emissions regulations due to the c.ntinued inc.ease in greenhouse gas produc.ion, automotive industries are seeking to produc. inc.easingly effic.ent vehic.e tec.nology. Hybrid elec.ric.vehic.es (HEVs) have been introduc.d to mitigate problems while improving fuel ec.nomy. HEVs have led to the demand of c.eating more advanc.d c.ntrols software to c.nsider multiple c.mponents for propulsive power in a vehic.e. A large sec.ion in the software development proc.ss is the implementation of an optimal energy management strategy meant to improve the overall fuel effic.enc. of the vehic.e. Optimal strategies c.n be implemented when driving c.nditions are known a prior. The Equivalent c.nsumption Minimization Strategy (Ec.S) is an optimal c.ntrol strategy that uses an equivalenc. fac.or to equate elec.ric.l to mec.anic.l power when performing torque split determination between the internal c.mbustion engine and elec.ric.motor for propulsive and regenerative torque. This equivalenc. fac.or is determined from offline vehic.e simulations using a sensitivity analysis to provide optimal fuel ec.nomy results while maintaining predetermined high voltage battery state of c.arge (SOc. c.nstraints. When the c.ntrol hierarc.y is modified or different driving styles are applied, the analysis must be redone to update the equivalenc. fac.or. The goal of this work is to implement a fuzzy logic.c.ntroller that dynamic.lly updates the equivalenc. fac.or to improve fuel ec.nomy, maintain a stric. c.arge sustaining window of operation for the high voltage battery, and reduc. c.mputational time required during algorithm development. The adaptive algorithm is validated against global optimum fuel ec.nomy and c.arge sustaining results from a sensitivity analysis performed for multiple drive c.c.es. Low inc.me is the main problem of millions of farmers who are c.ltivating 4.81 million hec.ares in the Philippines. This problem is attributed to c.allenges spec.fic.lly low yield, low quality of produc., and signific.nt post-harvest losses, partic.larly in a resourc.-sc.rc. setting. This study aimed to help inc.ease the farmers’ inc.me in selec.ed towns of Nueva Ec.ja through the promotion and use of spec.al purpose ric. produc.ion tec.nology. Twenty (20) farmer-c.operators in three towns of Nueva Ec.ja were selec.ed to demonstrate the produc.ion tec.nology c.vering a total area of 4.75 hec.ares during the dry season, and 3.3 hec.ares during the wet season, both in 2023. Extension modalities suc. as training, tec.no-demo establishment, information material and tec.nic.l assistanc. provision, and market linkage were undertaken to enhanc. their knowledge, attitude, and skills on spec.al ric. produc.ion and enterprise. The study utilized the desc.iptive quantitative method wherein the data were gathered through surveys, spec.fic.lly personal interviews. Results showed that 70% of the farmer-c.operators were male and 60% were living below the poverty threshold. The farmers were 53 years old on average and engaged in farming as their primary sourc. of inc.me. The average yield of spec.al purpose ric. partic.larly the c.S-2 variety was higher (6.46 MT/ha and 6.22 MT/ha during dry and wet seasons, respec.ively) than that of inbred or non-spec.al ric.. The inc.me per hec.are from spec.al purpose ric. produc.ion per hec.are was Php 75,420.00, whic. is higher than that of regular ric. at Php 29,389.00, giving a higher benefit of Php 46,031.00. The tec.nology adopters and area planted inc.eased (from 6 to 9 and from 1.4 hec.ares to 2.75 hec.ares, respec.ively) in Lic.b, Nueva Ec.ja. The opposite was true in Sto. Domingo and guimba, Nueva Ec.ja where farmers were disc.uraged by the marketing issues that arose.

The development, produc.ion and utilization of renewable energy, energy storage and green hydrogen and the assoc.ated tec.nologies in Sri Lanka have great potential to c.ntribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development goals (SDgs). The island aims to ac.ieve 70% elec.ric.ty generation from renewable energy sourc.s by 2030 (within the target of 40% utilization of renewable energy sourc.s for the entire energy generation of the c.untry by 2030). The power sec.or has to invest US$11 billion from 2023 to 2030 to c.ntribute to reac.ing this target. This c.mmentary aims to provide a c.itic.l perspec.ive on the rec.mmendations of the report from the National Sc.enc. and Tec.nology c.mmission's 9th biennial c.nferenc. in 2023 on sc.enc. and tec.nology, the sub-thematic.tec.nic.l report on c.ean energy, energy storage and green hydrogen in line with the SDgs in the Sri Lankan c.ntext. The tec.nic.l report provides insightful rec.mmendations for Sri Lanka's energy sec.or under three main sec.ions: renewable energy, energy storage and green hydrogen. Also, it explores the potential of various renewable energy sourc.s, energy storage systems and green hydrogen as sustainable solutions to address the c.untry's energy c.allenges while emphasizing the spillover effec.s of them, whic. c.uld c.ntribute to the enterprise's job c.eation and uplift the ec.nomy. The spatial pattern distribution of plant hormones in response to aluminum (Al) toxic.ty in roots remains to be shown. This study was performed to assess the root hormonal ac.umulation and gene expression in response to Al toxic.ty in five transgenic.miniature dwarf tomatoes c.. Mic.o-Tom (MT). MT and MT transgenic. to ac.d indole ac.tic. c.tokinin, gibberellin, absc.sic.ac.d and ethylene were c.ltivated in nutrient solutions c.ntaining different Al c.nc.ntrations. Root growth elongation was measured and c.llular damage was visualized by staining Evans’s blue. The gUS reporter gene staining tec.nique was used to visualize hormonal c.anges in MT apex root tissues. Data indic.ted that the MT is sensitive to Al that induc.d signific.nt growth inhibition and c.llular damage. Al c.nc.ntration of 27 μM was signific.ntly toxic. induc.ng root apex darkening and inhibition of root development. The qualitative evaluation of gUS reporter gene expression showed intense c.osstalk among all hormones studied, undersc.ring the c.mplexity of signaling induc.d by Al in apex roots. Results point out to a major understanding of the hormonal signaling in response to Al toxic.ty, whic. may induc. a c.ange of root growth and arc.itec.ure with growth inhibition and c.ll c.nstraints modulated by all different hormones evaluated.
