Experimental study on the effect of micro-carbon additives in vegetable oils for aquifer thermal energy storage

Aquifer thermal energy storage is a versatile method for regulating building temperatures,utilizing groundwater as a medium for both summer cooling and winter *** has high thermal conductivity and specific heat but is corrosive,creating a mineral build-up that causes ***,its high freezing point presents operational *** oils emerge as a promising alternative,owing to their lower freezing *** light of environmental concerns,researchers are exploring vegetable oils as substitutes for petroleum-derived mineral *** paper is intended as an initial study using vegetable oils,*** and sunflower oil,as the heat-transfer medium in aquifer thermal energy *** experiments assess the heat-transfer coefficient of coconut,sunflower,mineral,and synthetic oils when exposed to the same heat *** study also evaluates the impact of introducing micro-carbon(graphite and charcoal)to the *** indicate that sunflower oil has the highest heat-transfer coefficient of 374.4 W/m^(2) K among the oils,making it suitable for aquifer thermal energy storage ***,augmenting sunflower oil with charcoal powder enhances its performance by increasing the heat-transfer coefficient to 474.9 W/m^(2) K,or a 27%*** contrast,coconut oil proves unsuitable for aquifer thermal energy storage deployment because of its low heat-transfer coefficient of 293.7 W/m^(2) *** heat-transfer coefficient of synthetic oil increases with graphite powder but decreases with charcoal powder introduction.

Synthesis and thermoluminescence properties of rare earth oxides (Y, Ce-Lu) doped lithium triborate

Lithium triborate （LiB3O5） was synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method, and then rare earth oxides were doped into LiB3O5 to enhance its thermoluminescent （TL） properties. The identification and characteristics of the obtained compounds were determined by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） analyses, differential thermal analyses （DTA） and scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. The glow curves were obtained using a thermoluminescent （TL） reader. The results revealed that all the rare earth oxides were not good activators for lithium triborate and the obtained compounds could not be used for dosimetric applications.

Synthetic demand data generation for individual electricity consumers :generative Adversarial Networks (gANs)

Load modeling is one of the crucial tasks for improving smart grids’ energy efficiency. Among manyalternatives, machine learning-based load models have become popular in applications and have shownoutstanding performance in recent years. The performance of these models highly relies on data quality andquantity available for training. However, gathering a sufficient amount of high-quality data is time-consumingand extremely expensive. In the last decade, generative Adversarial Networks (gANs) have demonstrated theirpotential to solve the data shortage problem by generating synthetic data by learning from recorded/empiricaldata. Educated synthetic datasets can reduce prediction error of electricity consumption when combined withempirical data. Further, they can be used to enhance risk management calculations. Therefore, we proposeRCgAN, TimegAN, CWgAN, and RCWgAN which take individual electricity consumption data as input toprovide synthetic data in this study. Our work focuses on one dimensional times series, and numericalexperiments on an empirical dataset show that gANs are indeed able to generate synthetic data with realisticappearance.

Mechanical properties and impact resistance of concrete composites with hybrid steel fibers

The aim of this study is to develop concrete composites that are resistant to armor-piercing projectiles for defense *** reinforcement configurations have been tested,such as short steel fibers,long steel fibers,and steel mesh *** different concrete mix designs were prepared as“Ultra High Performance(UHPFRC),High Performance(HPFRC)and Conventional(CFRC)Fiber Reinforced Concrete”.The content of hybrid steel fibers was approximately 5%in the UHPFRC and HPFRC mixtures,while the steel fiber content was approximately 2.5%in the CFRC *** addition,a plain state of each mixture was *** properties of concrete were determined in experimental *** addition to the fracture energy and impact strength,two important indicators of ballistic performance of concrete are examined,which are the penetration depth and damage *** results of the study show that the depth of penetration in UHPFRC was around 35%less than that in *** was determined that the mixtures of UHPFRC and HPFRC containing 5%by volume of hybrid steel fibers showed superior performance(smaller crater diameter and the less projectile penetration depth)against armor-piercing projectiles in ballistic tests and could be used in defense structures.

A Model Predictive Control for Microgrids Considering Battery Aging

The increasing number of distributed energy resources(DERs),advancing communication and computation technologies,and reliability concerns of the customers have caused an intense interest in the concept of *** DERs are the biggest motivation of the microgrids due to their intermittent generation characteristics,they constitute a risk for system *** storage systems(BSSs)stand as one of the most effective solutions for this reliability ***,the inappropriate use of BSS creates other operational problems in power *** order to deal with these concerns explicitly in microgrids,an optimized microgrid central controller(MgCC)is the key factor,which controls the realtime operation of a *** work proposes a model predictive control(MPC)based MgCC that will provide optimal control of the microgrid,considering economic and operational *** proposed system will minimize the energy cost of the microgrid by utilizing mixed-integer linear programming(MILP)assuming the presence of DERs and BSS as well as the bi-directional grid ***,the aging effect of BSS will be considered in the proposed optimization problem which will provide an up-to-date system *** proposed method is evaluated using real load and photovoltaic(PV)generation data.

Compressive fatigue behavior and failure evolution of additive fiber-reinforced cemented tailings composites

The ordinary cemented tailings backfill(CTB)is a cement-based composite prepared from tailings,cementitious materials,and *** this study,a series of laboratory tests,including uniaxial compression,digital image correlation measurement,and scanning electron microscope characteristics of fiber-reinforced CTB(FRCTB),was conducted to obtain the uniaxial compressive strength(UCS),failure evolution,and microstructural characteristics of FRCTB *** results show that adding fibers could increase the UCS values of the CTB by 6.90%to 32.76%.The UCS value of the FRCTB increased with the increase in the polypropylene(PP)fiber ***,the reinforcement effect of PP fiber on the CTB was better than that of glass *** addition of fiber could increase the peak strain of the FRCTB by0.39%to 1.45%.The peak strain of the FRCTB increased with the increase in glass fiber *** failure pattern of the FRCTB was coupled with tensile and shear *** addition of fiber effectively inhibited the propagation of cracks,and the bridging effect of cracks by the fiber effectively improved the mechanical properties of the *** findings in this study can provide a basis for the backfilling design and optimization of mine backfilling methods.

Selection of promising chestnuts(Castanea sativa) among wild growing trees from southern Mediterranean region forests of Turkey

Turkey ranked third place in the world for chestnut production after China and South Korea and the country has unique chestnut forests including valuable and diverse chestnut genotypes. This study was conducted to select superior chestnut genotypes within seedling popu- lations found in natural wild grown chestnut forest located in Isparta province in Turkey during 2010-2011 years. A total of 2500 wild grown chestnut trees were examined on the field first year and among them the most promising 22 genotypes were chosen according to relatively high yield capacity, earliness, tolerance to chestnut blight （Cryphonectria parasitica）, ink disease （Phytopthora cambivora）, and fruit quality characteristics. The selected 22 genotypes were evaluated for their detailed morpho- logical, phenological and pomological traits in 2010 and 2011. According to average of 2 years, nut weight, the number of nut per kilogram, nut width, nut length, nut height and nut shell thickness of 22 promising genotypes ranged from 10.26 to 22.32 g, 97.47 to 44.80/kg, 26.80 to 42.47, 16.92 to 25.91, 27.74 to 39.73, and 0.26 to 1.01 mm, respectively. The ash, crude protein, and total fat content of kernels were between 0.85 to 1.94, 3.69 to 7.06 and 1.32 to 4.52, respectively. The genotypes were evaluated with weighted ranking method and the highest general quality score was observed in genotypes of IY17, IYO1, IY42, IY43 and IY12.

External beam radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer

Radiotherapy （XRT） is a curative treatment option for prostate cancer （PCa）. Recent XRT technologies allow higher dose therapy that lead to increased local control with less adjacent tissue damage. Additionally, receiving neo-adjuvant or adjuvant hormonotherapy （HT） during radiation therapy increases the curative effect. ＂lhe aim of this paper is to review the current literature and guidelines on external beam radiation therapy for PCa. However, brachytherapy and radiosurgery, a recently evolving relatively new technology for the radiotherapeutic management of localized PCa, are beyond the scope of this paper.

Investigation of Even-Even Ru Isotopes in Interacting Boson Model-2

The interacting boson model of Arima, Iachello, and co-workers is applied to the even ruthenium isotopes, ^96 Ru -116Ru. Excitation energies, electromagnetic transition strengths, quadrupole and magnetic dipole moments, and △（E2/M1） mixing ratios have been described systematically. Mixed symmetry states are investigated. It is seen that the properties of low-lying levels in these isotopes, for which the comparison between experiment and theory is possible, can be satisfactorily characterized by the Interacting Boson Model-2.
