The intent of this study was to provide topical delivery of acetazolamide by preparing chitosan-STPP (sodium tripolyphosphate) nanoparticles of acetazolamide and evaluate the particle size, zeta potential, drug entrapment, particle morphology;in vitro drug release and in vivo efficacy. The particles showed sustained in vitro drug release which followed the Higuchi kinetic model. The results indicate that the nanoparticles released the drug by a combination of dissolution and diffusion. The optimised formulation was having particle size 188.46 ± 8.53 nm and zeta potential + 36.86 ± 0.70 mV. The particles were spherical with a polydispersity index of 0.22 ± 0.00. Powder X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry indicated diminished crystallinity of drug in the nanoparticle formulation. In the in vitro permeation study, the nanoparticle formulation showed elevated permeation as compared to that of drug solution with negative signs of corneal damage. In vitro mucoadhesion studies showed 90.34 ± 1.12% mucoadhesion. The in vivo studies involving ocular hypotensive activity in rabbits revealed significantly higher hypotensive activity (P g solution with no signs of ocular irritation. The stability studies revealed that formulation was quite stable.

Condition monitoring of outdoor insulation systems is crucial to the integrity of distribution and transmission overhead lines and *** objective of this study is to use a commercial acoustic sensor along with artificial neural network(ANN),to classify different typical types of discharges in outdoor insulation ***,ANN was used to distinguish between five common electrical discharges that were generated under controlled ***,this approach was extended to include outdoor ceramic *** types of defects were tested under laboratory conditions,i.e.a crack in the ceramic disc,surface pollution discharge,and corona near the insulator *** a single disc,and three discs connected in an insulator string were tested with respect to these *** both controlled samples and full insulators,a recognition rate of more than 85%was achieved.

Non-static plane symmetric cosmological solutions are presented in the presence of cosmic strings in the scalar-tensor theory of gravitation formulated by Sen ＆ Dunn. It is shown that string cosmological models representing geometric strings （ρ = λ） and massive strings （ρ ＋λ = 0） do exist in this theory. Further, it is found that the Takabayasi string, i.e. ρ= （1 ＋ζ）λ, does not exist. Some physical and geometrical features of these models are discussed.

5-Fluorouracil loaded guar gum microspheres for colon delivery： preparation, characterization and in vitro release

The present investigation is aimed to develop a new formulation containing chemically crosslinked guar gum microspheres loaded with 5-fluorouracil for targeting colorectal cancer. The emulsification polymerization method involving the dispersion of aqueous phase of guar gum in castor oil was used to prepare spherical microspheres. Various processing parameters were studied in order to optimize the formulation. Particle size and surface morphology of the microspheres were determined using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The in vitro drug release studies performed in simulated gastric fluid (SgF) for 2 h followed by intestinal fluid for 3 h, revealed the retention of the drug inside the microspheres from which only (15.27 ± 0.56) % of the drug was released in 5 h. In vitro release rate studies were also carried out in simulated colonic fluid (SCF) in the presence of rat caecal contents, which showed improved drug release. The drug release from the formulation was found to be (41.6 ± 3.5) % with 2% (w/v) caecal matter in 24 h as compared to control study where (25.2 ± 3.5) % of drug was released. The drug release from the formulation with 2% and 4% rat caecal contents medium after 2 days of enzyme induction was found to be (56.3 ± 4.1) % and (78.9 ± 2.8) % in 24 h respectively. Similarly, (61.3 ± 5.4) % and (90.2 ± 2.9) % drug was released respectively with 2% and 4% rat caecal matter after 4 days of enzyme induction and (72.1 ± 2.9) % and (90.2 ± 3.2) % after 6 days of enzyme induction. In this way, 5-fluorouracil loaded guar gum microspheres have shown promising results in the management of colorectal cancer, warranting thorough in vivo study for scale up technology.

A sensitive and specific immunosensor for the detection of the hormones cortisol and lactate in human or animal biological fluids, such as sweat and saliva, was devised using the label-free electrochemical chronoamperometric technique. By using these fluids instead of blood,the biosensor becomes noninvasive and is less stressful to the end user, who may be a small child or a farm *** graphene oxide(e-RgO) was used as a synergistic platform for signal amplification and template for bioconjugation for the sensing mechanism on a screenprinted electrode. The cortisol and lactate antibodies were bioconjugated to the e-RgO using covalent carbodiimide chemistry. Label-free electrochemical chronoamperometric detection was used to analyze the response to the desired biomolecules over the wide detection range. A detection limit of 0.1 ng mL^(-1) for cortisol and 0.1 mM for lactate was established and a correlation between concentration and current was observed. A portable, handheld potentiostat assembled with Bluetooth communication and battery operation enables the developed system for point-of-care applications. A sandwich-like structure containing the sensing mechanisms as a prototype was designed to secure the biosensor to skin and use capillary action to draw sweat or other fluids toward the sensing mechanism. Overall, the immunosensor shows remarkable specificity, sensitivity as well as the noninvasive and point-of-care capabilities and allows the biosensor to be used as a versatile sensing platform in both developed and developing countries.
