Childhood malaria in the Niger delta area of Nigeria:mothers/care givers'perception,definition and treatment practices

Objective:The objective of the study was to evaluate mothers/care givers perception of malaria,their treatment practices and the effects on the outcome of ***:Four hundred and sixty children were enrolled and their mothers/care givers *** children were screened for malaria parasitaemia and there after,blood specimens were obtained for biochemical and haematological evaluation from those children who met the criteria and tested positive to *** *** cell volume,electrolytes,urea, creatinine,plasma glucose,and serum bilirubin were ***:A total of 460 children were studied, 233(50.7%) males and 227(49.3%) *** malaria cases were 112(24.3%) and severe malaria 348(75.7%).Those who presented early 106(23.0%) and those who presented late 354(77.0%).Perception and definition of malaria as well as the treatment seeking behaviors vary significantly with the level of education of the mothers and care *** without formal education 68(51.9%) wrongly perceived that the etiology of malaria can only be diagnosed by native doctors compared to those with primary six education 61 (26.5%) and junior secondary education 10(10.1%).Only 43(9.3%) gave the correct dose of chloroquine syrup to their sick children,while 32(7.0%) gave at sub optimal ***:Wrong perception of malaria especially the complicated malaria and wrong treatment practices are major contributory factors to the high mortality and morbidity of malaria in *** is therefore a need for health education to correct the wrong ideas about the cause and treatment practices of malaria as part of malaria control programme.

In silico Analysis of osr40c1 Promoter Sequence Isolated from Indica Variety Pokkali

The promoter region of a drought and abscisic acid （ABA） inducible gene, osr40c1, was isolated from a salt-tolerant indica rice variety Pokkali, which is 670 bp upstream of the putative translation start codon. In silico promoter analysis of resulted sequence showed that at least 15 types of putative motifs were distributed within the sequence, including two types of common promoter elements, TATA and CAAT boxes. Additionally, several putative cis-acing regulatory elements which may be involved in regulation of osr40c1 expression under different conditions were found in the 5′-upstream region of osr40c1. These are ABA-responsive element, light-responsive elements （ATCT-motif, Box I, g-box, gT1-motif, gap-box and Sp1）, myeloblastosis oncogene response element （CCAAT-box）, auxin responsive element （TgA-element）, gibberellin-responsive element （gArE-motif） and fungal-elicitor responsive elements （Box E and Box-W1）. A putative regulatory element, required for endosperm-specific pattern of gene expression designated as Skn-1 motif, was also detected in the Pokkali osr40c1 promoter region. In conclusion, the bioinformatic analysis of osr40c1 promoter region isolated from indica rice variety Pokkali led to the identification of several important stress-responsive cis-acting regulatory elements, and therefore, the isolated promoter sequence could be employed in rice genetic transformation to mediate expression of abiotic stress induced genes.

Chemical, isotopic and amino acid composition of Mukundpura CM2.0(CM1) chondrite: Evidence of parent body aqueous alteration

The carbonaceous chondrites are intriguing and unique in the sense that they are the only rocks that provide pristine records of the early solar nebular processes. We report here results of a detailed mineralogical, chemical, amino acid and isotopic studies of a recently observed fall at Mukundpura, near Jaipur in rajasthan, India. Abundance of olivines in this meteorite is low and of serpentine minerals is high. FeO/SiO_2 = 1.05 in its Poorly Characterized Phases(PCP) is similar to that observed in other CM2.0 chondrites. The water content of ～9.8 wt.% is similar to that found in many other CM *** examination of matrix shows that its terrestrial weathering grade is WO but aqueous parent body alteration is high, as reflected in low abundance of identifiable chondrules and abundant remnants of chondrules(～7%). Thus, most of the chondrules formed initially have been significantly altered or dissolved by aqueous alterations on their parent bodies. The measured bulk carbon(2.3%) and nitrogen content and their isotopic(δ^(13)C =-5.5‰, δ^(15)N = 23.6%0) composition is consistent with CM2.0 classification probably bordering CM1. Several amino acids such as Alanine, Serine, Proline, Valine, Threonine,leucine, Isoleucine, Asparagine and Histamine are present. Tyrosine and Tryptophan may occur in trace amounts which could not be precisely determined. All these data show that Mukundpura chondrite lies at the boundary of CM2.0 and CM1 type carbonaceous chondrites making it one of the most primitive chondrites.

research and development efforts are still very active on 718-type alloys although two major members of this widely used family, 718 and 625, were invented almost a half-century ago. Emphasis in this type of work at ATI Allvac is directed at improving existing alloys and developing new alloys to meet ever-increasing industrial demands. The improvement of existing alloys is exemplified by addition of minor elements P and B in alloy 718. The discovery of the beneficial effect of P and B in wrought alloy 718 led to development of a new, modified alloy, AllvacH 718 Err. A large effort has also been directed at studying the effects of major element modifications in 718-type alloys, and a new alloy, Allvacr 718PlusTM, has been developed. The new alloy has much better high temperature capability, especially thermal stability, approaching the level of Waspaloy but retains excellent processing characteristics, similar to alloy 718. Alloy 718PlusTM should be useful in any 718-type application requiring a higher working temperature. The properties and processing of this alloy are introduced in this paper.

Engineering properties of the Bukit Timah granitic residual soil in Singapore

Extensive site investigations were conducted prior to the construction of a Mass rapid Transit project in Singapore that was predominantly in the Bukit Timah granite(BTg)formation residual *** paper evaluates the engineering properties of the BTg formation residual soil based on data from 208 site investigation boreholes from four different *** on the results from 2481 conventional laboratory tests and 1192 in-situ tests,this paper summarizes the engineering properties of the highly variable BTg residual soil,including conventional composition analysis,index and hydraulic properties,and strength and deformation parameters required for geotechnical analysis and *** on these results,the BTg formation is found to be quite *** the degree of weathering decreases with depth from the top of the formation,the BTg residual soil becomes sandier,with reduced silt and clay *** coefficient of permeability and the compression index of the BTg residual soil vary *** addition,the empirical equations relating the shear strength(index)to the standard penetration test(SPT)-N,as well as the equations and charts for determining stiffness,are *** findings,together with the proposed equations or charts,can be used for design guidance of similar projects related to granitic residual soils in Singapore.

The experimental data concerning the58Ni+48Ca reaction at Elab(Ni)=25A MeV,collected by using the CHIMErA 4π device,have been analyzed in order to investigate the competition among different reaction mechanisms for central collisions in the Fermi energy *** a main criterion for centrality selection we have chosen the flow angle(flow) method,making an event-by-event analysis that considers the shape of events,as it is determined by the eigenvectors of the experimental kinetic-energy *** the selected central events(flow >60°) some global variables,good to characterize the pattern of central collisions have been *** main features of the reaction products were explored by using different constraints on some of the relevant observables,like mass and velocity distributions and their *** emphasis was devoted,for central collisions,to the competition between fusion-evaporation processes with subsequent identification of a heavy residue and a possible multifragmentation mechanism of a well defined(if any) transient nuclear *** evolution of the system and pre-equilibrium emission were taken into account by simulating the reactions in the framework of transport *** approaches have been envisaged(dynamical stochastic BNV calculations + sequential SIMON code,QMD,CoMD,etc.).Preliminary comparison of the experimental data with BNV calculations shows reasonable agreement with the assumption of sequential multifragmentation emission in the mass region of IMFs close to the heavy *** deviations from sequential processes were found for those IMFs in the region of masses intermediate between the mass of heavy residues and the mass of light *** simulations are in *** experimental analysis will be enriched also by information obtained inspecting the IMF-IMF correlation function,in order to elucidated the nature of space-time decay property of the emitting source associated with events having

Plasma and aqueous humor levels of adiponutrin and pannexin 1 in patients with and without diabetic retinopathy

AIM: To evaluate plasma and aqueous levels of adiponutrin and pannexin 1 in patients with and without diabetic ***: The study included three age and gendermatched groups of 20 cataract patients with no diabetes or additional disease(group C), 20 cataract patients with diabetes and no retinopathy(group DM+C), and 20 cataract patients with diabetic retinopathy(group Dr+C).All the patients were examined with respect to body mass index(BMI), fasting plasma glucose, hemoglobin A1c(HbA1c), and lipid *** and intraocular lens(Phaco+IOl) implantation were performed to all patients in all the groups, and aqueous samples were taken during the *** plasma and aqueous adiponutrin and pannexin 1 levels were analyzed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***: A statistically significant difference was determined between the groups with respect to BMI, fasting plasma glucose, and HbA1c levels(Pr all parameters tested).The plasma adiponutrin levels of group Dr+C were statistically significantly lower than those of group C and group DM+C(Plly significant difference was determined in the aqueous adiponutrin levels in three *** plasma pannexin 1 levels of groups DM+C and Dr+C were statistically significantly lower than those of group C(both P=0.001).The aqueous pannexin 1 levels of group Dr+C were statistically significantly higher than those of group C and group DM+C(P=0.001, PluSION: Adiponutrin and pannexin 1, which play an important role in the pathophysiology of diabetes and obesity, and have a regulatory role in hyperglycemia and insulin *** measurement of adiponutrin and pannexin 1 levels may support clinicians in determining the risk of Dr development.

Xylanase is a hemicellulase that can hydrolyses the complex *** are main components of cell walls of cereal ***,hemicelluloses are considered as potential sources of mono-and *** this study,influence of xylanase on the physicochemical properties and sensory qualities of the whole wheat bread during storage was *** of whole wheat bread on microstructure,texture,thermotics,Scanning Electron Microscopic(SEM),X-ray Diffraction(XrD)were conducted at ambient temperature of 25 and 4◦C *** storage at different temperatures,bread containing xylanase exhibited less firmness but larger volume with whiter crumb color and longer shelf life as compared to control *** of firmness,enthalpy,Fourier Transformation Infra red(FTIr)and X-ray Diffraction(XrD)studies suggested a lower staling rate of bread containing xylanase as compared to control *** containing xylanase showed a smoother surface and more uniform pore size than the *** differences in microstructure of control and bread containing xylanase were observed which might be attributed due to the change in water starch gluten *** differences were also found to be interrelated to the textural properties of *** sensory features were achieved in bread containing xylanase.

In the framework of a non-relativistic quark model,we have calculated the masses of the QQQ′Q′(Q=c,b,s and Q′=c,b,s)tetraquark *** the linear and quadratic confinement potentials inside a Cornell-type potential along with all possible spin and color configurations,the Schrodinger equation masses of these tetraquark states have been *** on our numerical analysis,linear confinement and quadratic confinement produce acceptable *** that use linear confinement estimate charmonium-like tetraquark mass close to experimental data,as well as bottomonium-like tetraquark mass below the threshold of their meson-meson channels.

In Band Full Duplex (IBFD) Technology for Next generation Wireless Networks: A Survey in Cellular Networks
