Influence of Multi-pass Friction Stir Processing on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Die Cast Al–7Si–3Cu Aluminum Alloy

The influence of overlap multi-pass friction stir processing on the microstructure and the mechanical properties, in particular, strength, ductility and hardness of die cast A1-7Si-3Cu aluminum alloy was investigated. It was observed that increase in the number of overlap passes friction stir processing resulted in significant refinement and redistribution of aluminum silicon eutectic phase and elimination of casting porosities. The microstructural refinement by the friction stir processing not only increases the ultimate tensile strength from 121 to 273 MPa, but also increases the ductility as observed by the increase in fracture strain from 1.8% to 10%. Analysis of the fractured surface reveals that the microstructural refinement obtained by friction stir processing plays a vital role in transforming the fracture mode from completely mixed mode to the ductile mode of the fracture with increasing number of passes. The change in the size, shape, morphology and distribution of eutectic silicon particles and elimination of the porosities are the main reasons for the increases in tensile strength and ductility due to friction stir processing.

A three-dimensional coupled numerical model of nonlinear waves in a harbor

A 3-D time-domain numerical coupled model for nonlinear waves acting on a ship in a harbor has been developed in the present *** whole domain is divided into the inner domain and the outer *** inner domain is the area around the ship,where the flow is expressed by the laplace equation and numerically solved by the finite element *** other area is the outer domain,where the flow is described by the higher-order Boussinesq equations and numerically solved by the finite difference *** matching conditions on the interfaces between the inner domain and the outer domain,the procedure of coupled solution,the length of common domain and the mesh generation in the inner domain are discussed in *** other coupled model with the flow in the inner domain governed by the simplified linear Euler equations and relevant physical experiment are adopted to validate the present coupled model,and it is shown that the numerical results of the present model agree with the experimental data,so the present model can be used for the study on the effect of nonlinear waves acting on a fixed ship in a large area and provide a reference for the time-domain simulation of nonlinear wave forces on an arbitrary object in a large harbor and the 3-D district computation in the future.

This paper investigates the effects of the physical properties on the microstructure and weldability of explosive welding by joining two metals with a significant contrast in thermophysical properties:stainless steel and *** welds between stainless steel and copper were obtained,and the interfacial morphology was wavy,regardless of the position of the *** weldability of dissimilar pairs was found to be more dependent on the relationship between the physical properties of the base materials than on the absolute value of the material *** there is a significant difference in thermal conductivity between the flyer and the base plate,together with a material with a low melting temperature,the weldability of the pair is often *** relative position of the plates affects the interfacial microstructure even when similar morphologies are *** the metallic pairs studied,the wave size was bigger for the configuration in which the ratio between the density of the flyer and the density of the base plate is *** same phenomenon was observed for the impedance:bigger waves were found for a smaller ratio between the impedance of the flyer and the impedance of the base plate.

Performance of the oxidative coupling of methane in fluidized-bed reactor was experimentally investigated using Mn-Na2WO4/SiO2,la2O3/CaO and la2O3-SrO/CaO *** catalysts were found to be stable,especially Mn-Na2WO4/SiO2 *** effect of sodium content of this catalyst was analyzed and the challenge of catalyst agglomeration was addressed using proper catalyst composition of 2%Mn2.2%Na2WO4/*** other two catalysts,the effect of lanthanum-Strontium content was analyzed and 10%la2O 3-20%SrO/CaO catalyst was found to provide higher ethylene yield than la2O3/CaO ***,the effect of operating parameters such as temperature and methane to oxygen ratio were also *** highest ethylene and ethane （C2） yield was achieved with the lowest methane to oxygen ratio around 2.40.5% selectivity to ethylene and ethane and 41% methane conversion were achieved over la2O3-SrO/CaO catalyst while over Mn-Na2WO4 /SiO2 catalyst,40% and 48% were recorded,***,the consecutive effects of nitrogen dilution,ethylene to ethane production ratio and other performance indicators on the down-stream process units were qualitatively discussed and Mn-Na2WO4/SiO2 catalyst showed a better performance in the reactor and process scale analysis.

rapid building damage assessment system using mobile phone technology

One common scenario during disasters such as earthquakes is that the activity of damage field reconnaissance on site is not well-coordinated. For example in Italy the damage assessment of structures after an earthquake is managed from the Italian Emergency Authority, using printed forms （AeDES） which are filled by experts on site generating a lot of confusion in filling and transferring the forms to the Disaster Management Operative Center. Because of this, the paper explores the viability of using mobile communication technologies （smart phones） and the Web to develop response systems that would aid communities after a major disaster, providing channels for allowing residents and responders ofuploading and distributing information, related to structural damages coordinating the damage field reconnaissance. A mobile application that can be run by residents on smart phones has been developed, to give an initial damage evaluation of the area, which is going to be very useful when resources （e.g. the number of experts is limited）. The mobile application has been tested for the first time during 2012 Emilia earthquake to enhance the emergency response, showing the efficiency of the proposed method in statistical terms comparing the proposed procedure with the standard procedure.

Spherically Symmetric Solutions on a Non-Trivial Frame in f(T) Theories of gravity

A new solution with constant torsion is derived using the field equations of f(T).Asymptotic forms of energy density,radial and transversal pressures are shown to meet the standard energy conditions,i.e.,weak and 'null' energy conditions according to some restrictions on T0,f(T0) and fT(T0). Other solutions are obtained for vanishing radial pressure and for specific choices of f(T).The physics relevant to the resulting models is discussed.
