Background: Improved understanding of the processes shaping the assembly of tropical tree communities is crucial for gaining insights into the evolution of forest communities and biological diversity. The climate is thought to be the first order determinant of abundance and distribution patterns of tree species with contrasting traits such as evergreen and deciduous leaf phenology. However, the relative role of neutral, and niche-based processes in the evolution of these patterns remain poorly ***: Here, we perform an integrated analysis of the data on tree species abundance, functional traits and community phylogeny from a network of 96 forest plots, each 1 ha in size, distributed along a broad environmental gradient in the central Western ghats, India. Then, we determine the relative importance of various process in assembly and structuring of tropical forest communities with evergreen and deciduous leaf ***: The deciduous leaf phenological trait has repeatedly evolved among multiple distantly related lineages. Tree communities in dry deciduous forests were phylogenetically clustered and showed a low range and variance of functional traits related to light harvesting, reproduction, and growth suggesting niche-based processes such as environmental filtering play a vital role in the assembly of tree communities in these forests. The external factors such as human-mediated disturbance also significantly, but to a lesser extent, influences the species and phylogenetic ***: These findings revealed that the environmental filtering plays a significant role in assembly of tree communities in the biologically diverse tropical forests in the Western ghats biodiversity hotspot.

Application of HPLC and ESI-MS techniques in the analysis of phenolic acids and flavonoids from green leafy vegetables (gLVs)

Diets containing high proportions of fruits and vegetables reduce the risk of onset of chronic diseases. The role of herbal medicines in improving human health is gaining popularity over the years, which also increases the need for safety and efficiency of these products. green leafy vegetables （gLVs） are the richest source of phenolic compounds with excellent antioxidant properties. Increased consumption of diets containing phenolic compounds may give positive and better results to human health and significantly improves the immune system. Highly selective, susceptible and versatile analytical techniques are necessary for extraction, identifica- tion, and quantification of phenolic compounds from plant extracts, which helps to utilize their important biological properties. Recent advances in the pre-treatment procedures, separation techniques and spectro- metry methods are used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of phenolic compounds. The online coupling of liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry （LC-MS） has become a useful tool in the metabolic profiling of plant samples. In this review, the separation and identification of phenolic acids and flavonoids from gLVs by LC-MS have been discussed along with the general extraction procedures and other sources of mass spectrometer used. The review is devoted to the understanding of the structural configuration, nature and accumulation pattern of phenolic acids and flavonoids in plants and to highlighting the recent developments in the chemical investigation of these compounds by chromatographic and spectroscopic techniques. It concludes with the advantages of the combination of these two methods and prospects.

Medium Range Prediction of Summer Monsoon Activities over India vis-a-vis Their Correspondence with the Observational Features

A detailed examination on various aspects of the southwest monsoon over the Indian subcontinent using analyses and forecasts of the NCMRWF global data assimilation and forecast system for the years 1994 and 1996 is carried out in this study. Objective procedures developed by ramesh et al. (1996) based on the monsoon 1995 data are employed in the present work. It is found that all the deterministic features of the summer monsoon viz., the onset, its advancement, stagnation/revival and the withdrawal, can reasonably by prognosticated after employing the objective methodologies and monitoring daily variations of certain derived quantities from the large scale analyses and forecasts. Further, a good correspondence of the observed large scale/synoptic scale circulation features and the observed rainfall etc. with the deterministic characteristics of the summer monsoon show a good prospect for real time prognosis of the important summer monsoon activities over the Indian subcontinent.

Development of black Ni-Co alloy films from modified Watts electrolyte and its morphology and structural characteristics

The electrodeposition of black Ni-Co alloy film from Watts nickel solution and the effects of benzotriaozole and imidazole as the additives were studied. The electrolyte consists of NiSO4, NiC12, H3BO3, COSO4 and kNO3. The cathode current efficiency and the throwing power of the solution and the film adhesion to the mild steel metallic foil were determined by standard methods. The crystal structure, lattice parameter, crystal orientation and crystal size were analyzed by X-ray diffraction （XRD）. Moreover, the surface morphology and elemental composition of the black Ni-Co alloy films were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （EDX） techniques. The darkness of the black films increases with increasing the incorporation of Co ion into the films. The XRD studies reveal that the black Ni-Co alloy films exhibit Ni （11 l） as the preferred orientation.

Managing cardiovascular disease risk in South Asian kidney transplant recipients

South Asians(SA)are at higher cardiovascular risk than other ethnic groups,and SA kidney transplant recipients(SA kTR)are no *** kTR experience increased major adverse cardiovascular events both early and late *** risk management should therefore begin well before *** candidates may require aggressive screening for pretransplant cardiovascular disease(CVD)due to their ethnicity and *** SA ethnicity during the pre-transplant evaluation may enable programs to better assess cardiovascular risk,thus allowing for earlier targeted periand post-transplant intervention to improve cardiovascular *** remains the most prominent post-transplant cardiovascular risk factor in SA *** also clusters with other metabolic syndrome components including lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol,higher triglycerides,hypertension,and central obesity in this ***,metabolic syndrome,and obesity are all significant CVD risk factors in SA kTR,and contribute to increased insulin *** biomarkers such as adiponectin,apolipoprotein B,and lipoprotein(a)may be especially important to study in SA *** interventions to improve health behaviors involving diet and exercise may especially benefit SA ***,there are few interventional clinical trials specific to the SA population,and none are specific to SA *** all cases,understanding the nuances of managing SA kTR as a distinct post-transplant group,while still screening for and managing each CVD risk factor individually in all patients may help improve the long-term success of all kidney transplant programs catering to multi-ethnic populations.

Autocatalytic deposition of copper from modified electrolytes and its characteristics

The electroless deposition process of copper plating consisting of TEA and EDTA as complexing agents,paraformaldehyde as reducing agent,and 2-mercaptobenzothiozole as stabilizer and gelatin and animal glue as additives was *** stability of the electroless copper solution was monitored by measuring the absorbance of the solution with a UV-Visible spectrophotometer and the solution was quite stable up to 15 *** adhesion of copper films on mild steel foil was assessed by standard bend test and exhibited good *** XRD results indicate that the copper films have a(111) ***,the additives suppress the predominant(111) plane crystal growth and increase the rate of(220) texture crystal *** crystal size of the copper films was calculated using the Scherrer formula from the predominant *** and AFM studies reveal that these two additives modify the crystal structure,grain size and surface morphology of the copper *** cyclic voltammetry studies reveal that the additives are adsorbed on the electrode surface and inhibit the rate of *** polarization and electrochemical impedance studies reveal that the deposits produced in the presence of additives display higher corrosion resistance.

Numerical study on thermal therapy of triple layer skin tissue using fractional bioheat model

This paper deals with the study of heat transfer and thermal damage in triple layer skin tissue using fractional bioheat model. Here, we consider three types of heating viz. sinusoidal heat flux, constant temperature and constant heat flux heating on skin surface. An implicit finite difference scheme is obtained by approximating fractional time derivative by quadrature formula and space derivative by central difference formula. The temperature profiles and thermal damage in the skin tissue are obtained to study the effect of fractional parameter a on diffusion process for constant temperature and heat flux boundary heating on skin surface. A parametric study for sinusoidal heat flux at skin surface has also been made.

Detailed parametric design methodology for hydrodynamics of liquid-solid circulating fluidized bed using design of experiments

A design-of-experiments methodology is used to develop a statistical model for the prediction of the hydrodynamics of a liquid–solid circulating fluidized bed. To illustrate the multilevel factorial design approach, a step by step methodology is taken to study the effects of the interactions among the independent factors considered on the performance variables. A multilevel full factorial design with three levels of the two factors and five levels of the third factor has been studied. Various statistical models such as the linear, two-factor interaction, quadratic, and cubic models are tested. The model has been developed to predict responses, viz., average solids holdup and solids circulation rate. The validity of the developed regression model is verified using the analysis of variance. Furthermore, the model developed was compared with an experimental dataset to assess its adequacy and reliability. This detailed statistical design methodology for non-linear systems considered here provides a very important tool for design and optimization in a cost-effective approach
