Time-dependent Fatigue Crack Propagation (FCP) behaviors of five Ni-base superalloys were investigated at various temperatures under fatigue with various holding times and sustained loading conditions. The new concept of damage zone is defined and employed to evaluate the alloys' resistance to hold-time FCP. A special testing procedure is designed to get the maximum damage zone of the alloys. Udimet 720 and Waspaloy show shorter damage zones than alloys 706 and 718. The fractographical analyses show that the fracture surfaces of the specimens under hold-time fatigue conditions are mixtures with intergranular and transgranular modes. As the extension of holding time per cycle, the portion of intergranular fracture increases, The effects of loading stress intensity, temperature, holding time, alloy chemistry, and alloy mi-crostructure on damage zone and the crack growth behaviors are studied. Hold-time usually increases the alloy's FCP rate, but there are few exemptions. For instance, the steady state hold-time FCP rate of Waspaloy at 760℃ is lower than that without hold-time. The beneficial effect of hold-time was attributed to the creep caused stress relaxation during the hold-time.

Southern Europe is a highly fire-prone region where extreme fires have often disastrous consequences on both structures and *** activities and fire weather conditions favouring ignitions and propagation have always been the drivers of such fires but anthropogenic climate change alongside the extension of wildland-urban interface(WUI)that concentrates both assets and fire ignitions have the compounding effect of exacerbating fire *** are currently not adequately prepared to sustain events whose frequency and intensity are foreseen to increase in the future as shown during the extreme fires that occurred recently in Euro-Mediterranean *** work presents the context of WUI fires in the Euro-Mediterranean region,their driving forces and their impacts on society,with insights from three recent catastrophic fires that drew much *** this context,we propose a conceptual framework for understanding the WUI issue assessing the implications for fire risk and providing some guidance to mitigate this risk,updated management strategies as well as comments about gaps in our current knowledge and how we might address this problem in the future.A successful approach to reduce fire risk in the future will require building resilient landscapes and communities better prepared to face these extreme fire events in which WUI population,forest managers,land planners,civil protection,and policy-makers need to work together to improve the safety and resilience of these fire-prone areas.

It is well known that the safety and efficacy profile of an inhaled cortocosteroid(ICS) is influenced by the pharmacokinetic properties and associated pharmacodynamic effects of the drug. Freely circulating,protein unbound, and active ICS can cause systemic adverse effects. Therefore, a detailed investigation of drug-protein interaction could be of great interest to understand the pharmacokinetic behaviour of corticosteroids and for the design of new analogues with effective pharmacological properties. In the present work, the interaction between some corticosteroids and human serum albumin(HSA) has been studied by spectroscopic approaches. UV–Vis spectroscopy confirmed that all the investigated corticosteroids can bind to HSA forming a protein-drug complex. The intrinsic fluorescence of HSA was quenched by all the investigated drugs, which was rationalized in terms of a static quenching mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters determined by the Van't Hoff analysis of the binding constants(negative ΔH and ΔS values) clearly indicate thathydrogen bonds and van der Waals forces play a major role in the binding process between albumin and betamethasone, flunisolide and prednisolone, while hydrophobic forces may play a major role in stabilizing albumin-triamcinolone complexes.

The paper presents a new prefabricated bio-engineering structure for the support of unstable *** prefabricated structure is made of a steel frame which is completely filled with soil and a face made of tree trunks among which scions or autochthonous bushes are *** to the difficulties in interpreting the complex interaction between soil and structure during the installation and lifetime,an in situ test was carried out in order to evaluate the state of stress in the steel frame and to understand the global behavior of the structure under service *** the basis of the obtained results,a procedure for checking the structure safety was proposed and *** easy design method was developed during the ***,the use of this type of prefabricated structure shows several advantages,such as good performances in terms of stabilizing effects,and easy assembly and transport.

In this work,Digital Twins based on Neural Networks for the steady state production of styrene were ***,both the Aspen Technology AI Model Builder(alternative 1)and a homemade MS Excel VBA code connected to Aspen HYSYS and Aspen Plus(alternative 2)were used with this same *** raw data used for generating the Digital Twins were obtained from process simulations using Aspen HYSYS and/or Aspen Plus,which were connected through a recycle-like stream via automation for solving the entire simulation *** HYSYS was used for solving the pre-heating,reaction,and stabilization sections of the process whereas Aspen Plus ensured the computing of the separation and purification *** alternatives led to an excellent prediction showing the capability of creating Digital Twins from and for process simulation.

Cretaceous tectonic evolution of the Neo-Tethys in Central Iran:Evidence from petrology and age of the Nain-Ashin ophiolitic basalts

The Nain and Ashin ophiolites consist of Mesozoic melange units that were emplaced in the Late Cretaceous onto the continental basement of the Central-East Iran microcontinent(CEIM).They largely consist of serpentinized peridotites slices;nonetheless,minor tectonic slices of sheeted dykes and pillow lavas-locally stratigraphically associated with radiolarian cherts-can be found in these ophiolitic *** on their whole rock geochemistry and mineral chemistry,these rocks can be divided into two geochemical *** sheeted dykes and most of the pillow lavas show island arc tholeiitic(IAT)affinity,whereas a few pillow lavas from the Nain ophiolites show calc-alkaline(CA)*** modeling based on trace elements composition indicates that both IAT and CA rocks derived from partial melting of depleted mantle sources that underwent enrichment in subduction-derived components prior to *** modeling shows that these components were represented by pure aqueous fluids,or sediment melts,or a combination of both,suggesting that the studied rocks were formed in an arc-forearc tectonic *** new biostratigraphic data indicate this arc-forearc setting was active in the Early *** tectonic interpretations suggested that the Nain ophiolites formed,in a Late Cretaceous backarc basin located in the south of the CEIM(the so-called Nain-Baft basin).However,recent studies showed that the CEIM underwent a counter-clockwise rotation in the Cenozoic,which displaced the Nain and Ashin ophiolites in their present day position from an original northeastward *** evidence combined with our new data and a comparison of the chemical features of volcanic rocks from different ophiolites around the CEIM allow us to suggest that the Nain-Ashin volcanic rocks and dykes were formed in a volcanic arc that developed on the northern margin of the CEIM during the Early Cretaceous in association with the subduction,below the CEIM,of a Neo

The Durkan Complex is a key tectonic element of the Makran accretionary prism(SE Iran)and it has been interpreted as representing a continental margin *** present here a multidisciplinary study of the western Durkan Complex,which is based on new geological,stratigraphic,biostratigraphic data,as well as geochemical data of the volcanic and meta-volcanic rocks forming this *** data show that this complex consists of distinct tectonic slices showing both non-metamorphic and very low-grade metamorphic deformed *** and biostratigraphic data allow us to recognize three types of ***-Ⅰis composed by a Coniacian-early Campanian pelagic succession with intercalation of pillow lavas and minor volcaniclastic ***-Ⅱsuccession includes a volcanic sequence passing to a volcano-sedimentary sequence with Cenomanian pelagic limestones,followed by a hemipelagic *** succession is characterized by abundant mass-transport ***-Ⅲsuccession includes volcanic and volcano-sedimentary sequences,which are stratigraphically covered by a Cenomanian platform *** latter is locally followed by a hemipelagic *** volcanic rocks in the different successions show alkaline geochemical affinity,suggesting an origin from an oceanic within-plate *** new results indicate that the western Durkan Complex represents fragments of seamounts tectonically incorporated in the Makran accretionary wedge during the latest Late *** propose that incorporation of seamounts in the frontal prism caused a shortening of the whole convergent margin and possibly contributed to controlling the deformation style in the Makran Accretionary Wedge during Late Cretaceous-Paleocene times.

BACKgROUND Mean age of patients with valves diseases is significantly increasing,and,in the near future,cardiac surgeons will have to deal with a considerable number of patients aged more than 80 *** remarkable results gained by the minimally invasive approach have encouraged its application in more complex and fragile patients,such as older *** study aimed to identify the rate of early mortality and major complications,and independent predictors for mid-term mortality in octogenarians undergoing minimally invasive valve *** Octogenarian patients undergoing right mini-thoracotomy mitral and/or tricuspid valve surgery between 2006 and2020 were *** endpoint was to identify independent predictors for mid-term mortality,and secondary endpoints were operative morality,stroke,independent predictors for early composite outcome,and quality of life at *** Analysis was performed on 130 *** occurred in one patient(0.8%),while operative mortality was 6%(eight patients).One-year and five-year survival were 86% and 64%,*** regression identified age and creatinine level as independent predictors of mid-term mortality,survival analysis showed that age ≥ 84 years and creatinine level ≥ 1.22 mg/dL were the cut-off points for worst *** gender and hypertension were found to be independent predictors of early composite *** Results of the present study show that age alone should not be considered a contraindication for minimally invasive valve *** patients who are most likely to have survival and functional benefits after surgery is decisive to achieve optimal health outcomes and prevent futile procedures.
