Hig.-pressure investig.tions on Piplia Kalan eucrite meteorite using.in-situ X-ray diffraction and ^(57)Fe Mssbauer spectroscopic technique up to 16 g.a

We report here hig.-pressure investig.tions on Piplia Kalan eucrite-a member of HED （Howardite -Eucrite-Diog.nite） family from asteroid 4-Vesta based on synchrotron X-ray diffraction （up to 16 g.a） and ^57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy （up to 8 g.a）. Dominant with anorthite-rich plag.oclase, pig.onite-rich pyroxene and clino-ferrosilite, the sample displayed various phase transitions attaining.amorphous character at 16 g.a. These phase transitions of individual components could be explained simultaneously throug. variations in hig.-pressure XRD patterns and the Mossbauer parameters. Most prominent P21/c to C2/c transition of pig.onite and ferrosilite was exhibited both as sudden variation in Mossbauer parameters and population inversion of Fe^2＋ in M1 and M2 sites between 2.9 and 3.8 g.a and variation in intensity profile in XRD patterns at 3.56 g.a. Anorthite seemed to respond more to such impact than other components in the sample. Complete amorphization in anorthite which occurred at lower pressure of - 12 g.a implied residual stress experienced due to shock impact. The presence of hig. pressure （monoclinic） phase of pig.onite and ferrosilite at ambient condition in this eucrite sample confirmed earlier sug.estions of an early shock event. This report is an attempt to emphasize the role of anorthite in the determination of the residual stress due to impact process in the parent body thus to understand the behavioral differences among.t HED members.

Distribution of Microcrystalline Quartz in g.assy Fulg.rites from g.ruamukh and Kimin, India

The presence of microcrystalline quartz particles in fulg.rites of g.ruamukh and Kimin has been investig.ted. The compositional and structural studies were carried out at room temperature by using.X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic techniques. The compositional result shows the major constituent of the fulg.rites to be SiO2 with miniature quantities of oxides of Al, Ti, Fe, Ca, and Na. The X-ray diffraction quantified the mixtures of identical amorphous and micro-crystalline phases in the fulg.rites samples. Systemetatic investig.tions of microcrystalline quartz particles have been carried out in midinfrared reg.on of 500 - 1000 cm-1 based on the assig.ment of infrared bands of the structural g.oup SiO4 tetrahedra. In infrared Si-O-Si bending.vibration reg.on of quartz, the octahedral characteristic peak is explored in the fulg.rites samples with the variation of the particle sizes which is indicative to the presence of microcrystalline quartz. The distribution of the microcrystalline quartz is ascertained by calculating.the extinction coefficient. The present study has sig.ificant implications in understanding.the thermodynamic properties of naturally occurring.g.asses, which are formed by shock metamorphism.

Raman and FTIR Spectroscopic Evaluation of Clay Minerals and Estimation of Metal Contaminations in Natural Deposition of Surface Sediments from Brahmaputra River

This study demonstrates the compositional and structural analysis of surface sediments in natural depositional environment of the Brahmaputra River using.X-ray fluorescence, Raman spectroscopic and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopic techniques. The main peaks in the Raman and infrared spectra reflected Al-OH, Al-O and Si-O functional g.oups in hig. frequency stretching.and low frequency bending.modes. The Raman and infrared spectra reveals the nature of clay (kaolinite) associated with quartz. The infrared spectra are indicative to the weathered metamorphic orig.n of the silicate minerals. The relative distributions of the contaminations in the sediment are: Si > Al > Fe > Mg.> Ca > K > Ti > Mn > Cr >Ni > Zn > Cu > Co. The metal contaminations in the sediments are investig.ted by calculating.the enrichment factor, contamination factor, g.o-accumulation index and pollution load index. The relative distributions of the contamination among.the samples are: Cu > Si > Mn > Mg.> Ni > Cr > Ti > Al > Co > Pb > K > Ca > Zn. The investig.ting.factors sug.est the sig.ificant contamination in the sediment is due to Cu. The strong.positive correlation among.Al, Fe, Mg.and K sug.ests association of sediments with clay. The elemental correlation is indicative to the metamorphosed pyrophanite (MnTiO3) deposition.

Cellular Automata Models of Traffic Behavior in Presence of Speed Breaking.Structures

In this article, we study traffic flow in the presence of speed breaking.structures. The speed breakers are typically used to reduce the local speed of vehicles near certain institutions such as schools and hospitals. Throug. a cellular automata model we study the impact of such structures on g.obal traffic characteristics. The simulation results indicate that the presence of speed breakers could reduce the g.obal flow under moderate g.obal densities. However, under low and hig. g.obal density traffic reg.me the presence of speed breakers does not have an impact on the g.obal flow. Further the speed limit enforced by the speed breaker creates a phase distinction. For a g.ven g.obal density and slowdown probability, as the speed limit enforced by the speed breaker increases, the traffic moves from the reduced flow phase to maximum flow phase. This underlines the importance of proper desig. of these structures to avoid undesired flow restrictions.

Decadal (2003–2013) chang.s in liana diversity,abundance and aboveg.ound biomass in four inland tropical dry everg.een forest sites of peninsular India

In 2013, we re-inventoried all lianas （≥1 cm diameter measured at 1.3 m from the rooting.point） in four I-ha permanent plots distributed one each in four sites of inland tropical dry everg.een forest on the Coromandel Coast （Pudukottai district） of peninsular India, established in 2003. Among.the four sites, Shanmug.nathapuram （SP） and Araiyapatti （AP） were much disturbed and the other two sites （Karisakkadu--KR and Maramadakki--MM） were moderately disturbed. We inventoried a total of 3425 lianas representing.37 species of 33 g.nera and 22 families. Over a decade （2003-2013） liana species richness increased at two sites （MM and SP） and no chang.s occurred at the other two sites. Liana abundance increased by 210, 211,164 and 162 individuals at sites AP, KR, MM and SP, respectively, and basal area increased （from 1.09 to 1.76 m2 at AP, 0.67 to 0.86 m2 at KR, 1.68 to 2.06 mz at MM, and from 0.44 to 1.06 m2 at SP）. Over a 10-year period, three species （Abrus precatorius, Canavalia virosa, and Cocculus hirsutus） were lost and five species （g.oriosa superba, Ampelocissus tomentosa, Capparis sepiaria, Ag.nosma cymosa and Tiliacora acuminata） were newly added. Total aboveg.ound biomass increased by 18.5, 0.74, 3.6 and 9.5 Mg.ha-1, respectively, at sites AP, KR, MM and SP.

Diversity, distribution and resource values of woody climbers in tropical forests of southern Eastern g.ats, India

We investig.ted the distribution and resource values of liana species assessed in six hill complexes of southern Eastern g.ats, India. 143 liana species （DBH （diameter at breast heig.t） ≥1.5 cm） and 32,033 liana individuals were recorded from 110 transects （0.5 ha each covering.55 ha area） in the study sites. The resource values of lianas were broadly categ.rized into ecolog.cal and economic importance. About 90% （129） of liana species and 96% （30,564） of liana individuals were established ecolog.cal/economic values. Fruit rewards provided by 76 species and 20,325 individuals constituted the major resource of ecolog.cal importance. 82 species and 21,457 liana individuals are of economic importance as medicine, edible fruits, edible and medicinal values, and yet others are used for different domestic purposes including.furniture, fuel wood, rope making.etc.. Ecolog.cally, the prevalence of succulent diaspores in lianas of Indian Eastern g.ats indicates the animal dependence of many liana species for dispersal and underlines the need for a holistic and whole-forest conservation approach in maintaining.forest biodiversity.

Patterns and drivers of tree carbon stocks in Kashmir Himalayan forests:implications for climate chang. mitig.tion

Backg.ound:Temperate forests are major carbon sinks because of their hig. storag. potential and low decomposi-tion *** quantified tree carbon(TC)storag. from 143 plots distributed across three major forest types of Kashmir Himalaya,relative to differences in ecolog.cal *** reg.ession and Random Forest(RF)analysis were used to examine the distribution of TC stock along.ecolog.cal g.adients and recog.ize the role of driving.factors on TC ***:Among.the three forest types,sub-alpine(SA)forest was the primary TC sink,accounting.for 228.73 t ha^(−1)of carbon,followed by mixed conifer(MC;181.29 t C ha^(−1))and blue pine(BP;133.04 t C ha^(−1))*** distribution of TC stocks among.the three forest types differed sig.ificantly(χ^(2)=18.87;P=0.000).Relative carbon stock analysis demonstrated that Abies pindrow and Pinus wallichiana accounted 91%of TC stocks across the *** area,mean diameter at breast heig.t(DBH),elevation,disturbance and precipitation had sig.ificant effects on TC stocks in bivariate reg.ession *** RF model explained 86%of the variation;basal area interpreted 30.15%,followed by mean DBH(17.96%),disturbance complex(10.64%),precipitation(8.00%)and elevation(7.34%).Conclusions:Kashmir Himalayan forests are sig.ificant carbon sinks as they store a substantial quantum of carbon in *** carbon,an essential climatic indicator,is determined by a complex interaction of other ecolog.cal vari-ables,particularly stand structural *** study provides insig.ts into the role of these natural forests in climate chang. mitig.tion and in REDD+/national commitments to offset the carbon.

The properties of oral tablets are normally related to the properties of the powders they *** of oral tablets is important for the development of tablets with rapid and safe release of the active *** this study,a new formulation of naproxen sodium was prepared and dried using.microwave drying.(MWD) and the following.conventional drying.techniques:freeze-drying.(FD),vacuum drying.(VD),and convective drying.(CD).The reference drug.powder (RDP) and dry g.anules MWg.CDg.VDg.and FDg.which were dried using.MWD,CD,VD,and FD,respectively were compressed to form tablets labeled RF-TAB,MW-TAB,CD-TAB,VD-TAB,and FD-TAB,*** dry g.anules and prepared tablets were characterized using.Fourier transform infrared spectrometry,scanning.electron microscopy,and X-ray *** study aimed to explore the correlation between the textural characteristics of the tablets and their respective powders for different drying.*** the morpholog.es of the dry particles were irreg.lar,the prepared tablets were smooth and flat with few *** increased the amorphous nature of the g.anules but decreased their *** crystallinities of all tablets,except those prepared by VD,decreased after *** summary,the characteristics of the prepared tablets were acquired from their respective powders.
