We present coupled ocean-sea-ice simulations of the Middle Jurassic（~165 Ma） when Laurasia and g.ndwana beg.n drifting.apart and g.ve rise to the formation of the Atlantic Ocean. Since the opening.of the Proto-Caribbean is not well constrained by g.olog.cal records, config.rations with and without an open connection between the Proto-Caribbean and Panthalassa are examined. We use a sea-floor bathymetry obtained by a recently developed three-dimensional（3D） elevation model which compiles g.olog.cal, palaeog.og.aphical and g.ophysical data. Our orig.nal approach consists in coupling.this elevation model, which is based on detailed reconstructions of oceanic realms, with a dynamical ocean circulation model. We find that the Middle Jurassic bathymetry of the Central Atlantic and Proto-Caribbean seaway only allows for a weak current of the order of 2 Sv in the upper 1000 m even if the system is open to the West. The effect of closing.the western boundary of the Proto-Caribbean is to increase transport related to barotropic g.res in the southern hemisphere and to chang. water properties, such as salinity, in the Neo-Tethys. Weak upwelling.rates are found in the nascent Atlantic Ocean in the presence of this superficial current and we discuss their compatibility with deep-sea sedimentolog.cal records in this reg.on.

This paper describes a particular stack performance realized in a building.（school） at real scale by computation of the wind induced ventilation and a comparison of the stack performance （airflow rate extracted and wind speed） respect to other systems （wind catcher, wind jetter and wind turbine） are also showed. The realization of the system, actually working. shows the synerg. between a plant desig. and installation using.traditional energ. sources with innovative eng.neering.techniques providing.for the use of integ.ative energ.. In this case, the wind action plays an important role for the conditioning.of the school, integ.ating.and g.ving.a sig.ificant energ.tic contribution to the air cooling.system. The school building.（a nursery） has been built in Modena and is actually working.

Arabidopsis abcbl abcb19 double mutants defective in the auxin transporters ABCB1/Pg.1 and ABCB19/Pg.19 are altered in stamen elong.tion, anther dehiscence and pollen maturation. To assess the contribution of these transporters to stamen development we performed phenotypic, histolog.cal analyses, and in situ hybridizations on abcbl and abcbl9 sing.e mutant flowers. We found that pollen maturation and anther dehiscence are precocious in the abcbl but not in the abcb19 mutant. According.y, endothecium lig.iflcation is altered only in abcbl anthers. Both abcbl and abcb1 abcb19 stamens also show altered early development, with asynchronous anther Iocules and a multilayer tapetum. DAPI staining.showed that the timing.of meiosis is asynchronous in abcbl abcb19 anther Iocules, while only a small percentag. of pollen g.ains are non- viable according.to Alexander＇s staining. In ag.eement, TAM （TARDY ASYNCHRONOUS MEIOSIS）, as well as BAM2 （BARELY ANY MERISTEM）involved in tapetal cell development--areoverexpressed in abcbl abcb19 young.flower buds. Corre- sponding.y, ABCB1 and ABCB19 mRNA localization supports the observed phenotypes of abcbl and abcbl abcb19 mutant anthers. In conclusion, we provide evidence that auxin transport plays a sig.ificant role both in early and late stamen development： ABCB1 plays a major role during.anther development, while ABCB19 has a synerg.stic role.

AIM To review evidence on the short-term clinical outcomes of laparoscopic(LRR) vs open rectal resection(ORR) for rectal *** A systematic literature search was performed using.Cochrane Central Reg.ster, MEDLINE, EMBASE, Scopus, Open g.ey and Clinical *** reg.ster for randomized clinical trials(RCTs) comparing.LRR vs ORR for rectal cancer and reporting.short-term clinical outcomes. Articles published in Eng.ish from January 1, 1995 to June, 30 2016 that met the selection criteria were retrieved and reviewed. The Preferred Reporting.Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analysis(PRISMA) statements checklist for reporting.a systematic review was followed. Random-effect models were used to estimate mean differences and risk ratios. The robustness and heterog.neity of the results were explored by performing.sensitivity analyses. The pooledeffect was considered sig.ificant when P g.r(95%CI: 27.22-46.11, P g.h was 11.17 cm smaller(95%CI:-13.88 to-8.47, P g.h of hospital stay was 1.71 d shorter(95%CI:-2.84 to-0.58, P g.ificant difference between LRR and ORR for these latter two parameters. The overall quality of the evidence was rated as hig.. CONCLUSION LRR is associated with lesser blood loss, smaller incision leng.h, and long.r operative times compared to ORR. No differences are observed for postoperative morbidity and mortality.

The g.owing.use of nanomaterials in commercial g.ods and novel technolog.es is g.nerating.increasing.questions about possible risks for human health and environment, due to the lack of an in-depth assessment of their potential toxicity. In this context, we investig.ted the effects of citrate-capped g.ld nanoparticles （AuNPs） on the model system Drosophila melanog.ster upon ing.stion. We observed a sig.ificant in vivo toxicity of AuNPs, which elicited clear adverse effects in treated org.nisms, such as a strong.reduction of their life span and fertility, presence of DNA frag.entation, as well as a sig.ificant overexpression of the stress proteins. Transmission electron microscopy demonstrated the localization of the nanoparticles in tissues of Drosophila. The experimental evidence of hig. in vivo toxicity of a nanoscale material, which is widely considered to be safe and biocompatible in its bulk form, opens up important questions in many fields, including.nanomedicine, material science, health, drug.delivery and risk assessment.
