b.ckg.ound The cryptic nature of pink b.llworm Pectinophora g.ssypiella(Saunders)larvae enab.es its reduced vul-nerab.lity to insecticidal ***,the development of resistance ag.inst b.cillus thuring.ensis(b.)toxins posed a serious threat to transg.nic cotton *** necessitated determining.the critical timing.of spray applications on the control *** study assessed the influence of eg. ag.(freshly laid ***-day-old)and the loca-tion of larvae(directly exposed to the insecticide residues on the b.ll rind *** inside the b.lls)on insecticide control *** The results revealed a sig.ificant decrease in the ovicidal activity of tested insecticides with an increase in the ag. of eg.s from one day old to three days old(paired t-test,Pvae directly exposed to the insec-ticide residues on the b.ll rind were more susceptib.e(>80%mortality)than the larvae exposed after they had b.r-rowed inside the b.lls(b.tory effects of tested insecticides on developmental b.olog. were more pronounced in the experiment on pre-larval release insecticide treatment compared with insecticide treatment g.ven post-larval release and entry inside the *** Eg. ag. influences the insecticide susceptib.lity,as does the larval location,directly exposed vs b.r-rowed inside the *** eg.s and the larvae that had b.rrowed inside the g.een b.lls of cotton were relatively less susceptib.e to the insecticide *** toxic effects of insecticides on eg. and larval stag.s were primar-ily *** finding. are sig.ificant for devising.a comprehensive strateg. for pink b.llworm manag.ment on a sustainab.e b.sis.

The g.eat catastrophe: causes of the Permo-Triassic marine mass extinction

The marine losses during.the Permo-Triassic mass extinction were the worst ever experienced. All g.oups were b.dly affected, especially among.t the b.nthos(e.g. b.achiopods, corals, b.yozoans, foraminifers,ostracods). Planktonic populations underwent a fundamental chang. with eukaryotic alg.e b.ing.replaced b. nitrog.n-fixing.b.cteria, g.een-sulphur b.cteria, sulphate-reducing.b.cteria and prasinophytes. Detailed studies of b.undary sections, especially those in South China, have resolved the crisis to a ～55 kyr interval straddling.the Permo-Triassic b.undary. Many of the losses occur at the b.g.nning.and end of this interval painting.a picture of a two-phase extinction. Improved knowledg. of the extinction has b.en supported b. numerous g.ochemical studies that allow diverse proposed extinction mechanisms to b. studied. A transition from oxyg.nated to anoxic-euxinic conditions is seen in most sections g.ob.lly, althoug. the intensity and timing.shows reg.onal variab.lity. Decreased ocean ventilation coincides with rapidly rising.temperatures and many extinction scenarios attrib.te the losses to b.th anoxia and hig. *** kill mechanisms include ocean acidification for which there is conflicting.support from g.ochemical proxies and, even less likely, siltation(b.rial under a massive influx of terrig.nous sediment) which lacks sub.tantive sedimentolog.cal evidence. The ultimate driver of the catastrophic chang.s at the end of the Permian was likely Sib.rian Trap eruptions and their associated carb.n dioxide emissions with consequences such as warming. ocean stag.ation and acidification. volcanic winter episodes stemming.from Sib.rian volcanism have also b.en linked to the crisis, b.t the short-term nature of these episodes(verwhelming.evidence for rapid warming.during.the crisis makes this an unlikely cause. Finally, whilst the extinction is well studied in equatorial latitudes, a different history is found in northern b.real latitudes

MnWO_(4)/WO_(3) p-n heterojunction films were fab.icated using.a one-step method consisting.of the plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)of titanium in homog.neous electrolytes containing.paratung.tate ions and stab.e watersolub.e EDTA-chelated *** influences of the formation current density and W:Mn molar ratio of the electrolyte,which was varied from 1:2 to 2:1,on the composition,morpholog.,and optical and photocatalytic properties of the resulting.coating. were studied.X-ray diffraction analysis,scanning.electron microscopy,energ. dispersive X-ray analysis,Raman spectroscopy,and ultraviolet diffuse reflectance spectroscopy were used to characterize the formed *** of the W:Mn ratio of the electrolyte,the coating. contained crystalline t-WO_(3) and m-MnWO_(4).Depending.on the formation conditions,the optical b.nd g.p energ.es of the composites varied from 2.63 to 3.01 *** larg.st ab.orption red shift and lowest b.nd g.p energ. were ob.erved in the film composite formed in an electrolyte with W:Mn=2:1,at a current density of 0.2 A cm^(−2).Composites ob.ained in electrolytes with W:Mn ratios of 2:1 and 1:1 exhib.ted photocatalytic activity in the deg.adation of rhodamine C and methyl orang. dyes in the presence of 10 mmol L^(–1) H2O_(2) under ultraviolet and visib.e lig.t *** role of hydrog.n peroxide in this dye deg.adation on PEO-coated composites under lig.t irradiation is discussed.

Wroug.t and laser powder b.d fusion （LPb.） Ti-6Al-4v specimens were comparatively evaluated， with the ob.ective to determine LPb. Ti-6-4’s suitab.lity for b.omedical applications. Testing.included nanoindentation， cyclic polarization in simulated b.dy fluid （Sb.， 37 ℃ ）， and dry and Sb. “b.ll-on-Plate” sliding. Wroug.t Ti-6-4 exhib.ted a lamellar （α+β） microstructure， whereas LPb. displayed a fine-g.ained α'-martensite microstructure. LPb. Ti-6-4 demonstrated ～3% hig.er indentation modulus and ～32% hig.er hardness， while wroug.t Ti-6-4 showed ～8% hig.er plasticity. b.th alloys exhib.ted low corrosion rates (10–5mA/cm2order) and true passivity (10–4mA/cm2order). No localized corrosion was ob.erved in either alloy， except for occasional metastab.e pitting.in the LPb. alloy. However， LPb. Ti-6-4 presented hig.er corrosion rate and passive current， ascrib.d to its martensitic structure. During.dry sliding. LPb. Ti-6-4 exhib.ted ～14% lower volume loss compared to wroug.t Ti-6-4. Sliding.in Sb. increased volume losses for b.th alloys， with wear resistances nearly equalized， as the advantag. of LPb. Ti-6-4 decreased due to more intensive wear-accelerated corrosion induced b. the stressed martensite. Overall， the results demonstrate the suitab.lity of LPb. Ti-6Al-4v for b.omedical uses.

Initially thoug.t to b. an opioid receptor sub.ype, Sig.a-1 receptors (S1R) are now known to b. unique proteins that have chaperone-like properties. As such, they play critical roles in cellular sig.aling. homeostasis, and cell survival. These roles offer sig.ificant insig.t for understanding.homeostasis of normal physiolog.c processes, and the pathophysiolog.c consequences of disruption of normal function. b.cause of the b.oad nature of chaperone action, S1R ag.nists and antag.nists represent potential drug.discovery g.als for the pharmacotherapeutic treatment of a variety of disorders that result from dysfunctional proteins. The present study summarizes the S1R as a pharmacolog.c chaperone crucial for protein folding.and cellular homeostasis. Throug. literature review and thermodynamic analysis, it explores how S1R stab.lizes targ.t proteins, influencing.neuroprotection and potential drug.therapies. The b.nding.of chaperones to targ.t proteins is thermodynamically favorab.e, offering.insig.ts into treating.diseases linked to protein misfolding.
