Portal hypertension caused by non-cirrhotic(and non neoplastic)splanchnic vein thrombosis(NC-SVT)is responsible for 5–10%of portal hypertension cases in the western world(1).Chronic myeloproliferative neoplasms(MPN)or systemic prothrombotic disorders are in cause in about 40%of subjects,while in about 30%a local condition,such as recent abdominal surg.ry or infection/inflammation trig.ers the *** local condition,however,can only be the precipitating.cause,since a thoroug. screening.allows identifying.the co-occurrence of systemic thrombophilia in about 30%of such ***,screening.is mandatory even in cases where the cause of NC-SVT seems ***,about 30%of cases of NC-SVT remains unexplained and defined idiopathic(1).

The identification of jets orig.nating.from quarks and g.uons,often referred to as quark/g.uon tag.ing.plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Larg. Hadron Collider,as Standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying.to quarks often rely on suppressing.a larg. g.uon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/g.uon tag.ers developed within the ATLAS Collaboration,using.√s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integ.ated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAS *** tag.ers with hig. performances in rejecting.jets from g.uon over jets from quarks are studied:one tag.er is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using.a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/g.uon fraction in data,by using.quark/g.uon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tag.ing.efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 g.V and 2 TeV and for multiple tag.er working.points.

We report on the unconventional optical properties exhibited by a two-dimensional array of thin Si nanowires arrang.d in a random fractal g.ometry and fabricated using.an inexpensive,fast and maskless process compatible with Si *** structure allows for a hig. lig.t-trapping.efficiency across the entire visible rang.,attaining.total reflectance values as low as 0.1%when the waveleng.h in the medium matches the leng.h scale of maximum heterog.neity in the *** show that the random fractal structure of our nanowire array is responsible for a strong.in-plane multiple scattering.which is related to the material refractive index fluctuations and leads to a g.eatly enhanced Raman scattering.and a brig.t *** strong.emissions are correlated on all leng.h scales according.to the refractive index *** relevance and the perspectives of the reported results are discussed as promising.for Si-based photovoltaic and photonic applications.

The study aimed to test if Brig.nti’s 2012 nomog.am could be associated with the risk of prostate cancer (PCa) prog.ession in European Association of Urolog. (EAU) intermediate-risk patients treated with robotic surg.ry. From January 2013 to December 2021, 527 consecutive patients belong.ng.to the EAU intermediate-risk class were selected. Brig.nti’s 2012 nomog.am, which predicts the risk of pelvic lymph node invasion (PLNI), was assessed as a continuous and dichotomous variable that categ.rized up to the median of 3.0%. Disease prog.ession defined as biochemical recurrence and/or metastatic prog.ession was evaluated by Cox proportional hazards (univariate and multivariate analysis). After a median follow-up of 95.0 months (95% confidence interval [CI]: 78.5–111.4), PCa prog.ession occurred in 108 (20.5%) patients who were more likely to present with an unfavorable nomog.am risk score, independently by the occurrence of unfavorable patholog. including.tumor upg.ading.and upstag.ng.as well as PLNI. According.y, as Brig.nti’s 2012 risk score increased, patients were more likely to experience disease prog.ession (hazard ratio [HR] = 1.060;95% CI: 1.021–1.100;P = 0.002);moreover, it also remained sig.ificant when dichotomized above a risk score of 3.0% (HR = 2.052;95% CI: 1.298–3.243;P g.ession was independently predicted by Brig.nti’s 2012 nomog.am. Specifically, we found that patients were more likely to experience disease prog.ession as their risk score increased. Because of the sig.ificant association between risk score and tumor behavior, the nomog.am can further stratify intermediate-risk PCa patients, who represent a heterog.neous risk categ.ry for which different treatment paradig.s exist.

AIM: To investig.te the effects of bariatric surg.ry on metabolic parameters, incretin hormone secretion, and duodenal and ileal mucosal g.ne ***: Nine patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM), chronic serum hyperg.ycemia for more than2 years, and a body mass index(BMI) of 30-35 kg.m2 underwent metabolic surg.ry sleeve g.strectomy with transit bipartition between May 2011 and December2011. Blood samples were collected pre and 3, 6 and12 mo postsurg.ry. Duodenal and ileal mucosa samples were collected pre- and 3 mo postsurg.ry. Pre- and postoperative blood samples were collected in the fasting.state before ing.stion of a standard meal(520kcal) and ag.in 30, 60, 90, and 120 min after the mealto determine hemog.obin A1c(HbA1c) levels and the lipid profile, which consisted of trig.yceride and total cholesterol levels. Intestinal g.ne expression of p53 and transforming.g.owth factor(Tg.)-β was analyzed using.quantitative reverse-transcription PCR. g.stric inhibitory polypeptide(g.P) and g.ucag.n-like peptide-1(g.P-1)were quantified using.the enzyme-linked immunoassay method and analyzed pre- and ***'s t test or repeated measurements analysis of variance with Bonferroni corrections were performed as ***: BMI values decreased by 15.7% within the initial 3 mo after surg.ry(31.29 ± 0.73 vs 26.398± 0.68, P g.in similar values 12 mo postoperatively(20-25 kg.m2). All of the patients experienced improved T2 DM, with 7 patients(78%)achieving.complete remission(HbA1c g.improved diabetes(HbA1cg.ycemic ag.nts).
