Do PON1-Q192R and PON1-L55M polymorphisms modify the effects of hypoxic training on paraoxonase and arylesterase activity?

Background:Low levels of antioxidant paraoxonase 1(PON 1)enzyme activity,PON1-Q192R polymorphism(a glutamine(Q)to arginine(R)substitution at position 192),PON1-L55M polymorphism(a leucine(L)to methionine(M)substitution at position 55),and oxidized low-density lipoprotein(oxLDL)are risk factors for coronary heart *** exercise improves PON1 activity,but the effects of hypoxic exercise are yet *** aim of this study was to determine the effects of hypoxic underwater rugby training on PON1 activity and oxLDL levels and the role of the mentioned ***:Serum PON1 and arylesterase activities(ARE),PON1,PON3,and oxLDL protein levels(by using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays)were determined in an athletic group(42 trained male underwater rugby players;age=21.7±4.2 years,mean±SD)and a control group(43 sedentary men;age=23.9±3.2 years).The polymorphisms were determined from genomic DNA ***:PON1 activity(25.1%,p=0.052),PON3(pgroup,including most genotype groups,were higher than those of the control *** comparison to the controls,PON1 activity levels(p=0.005)of the PON1-Q192R homozygote QQ genotype group and PON1 activity levels(30%,p=0.116)of the PON1-L55M homozygote LL genotype group were higher,whereas ARE activity values of athletic R allele carrier(Rc=QR+RR)(p=0.005)and LL group(p=0.002)were lower than the control genotype groups related to their ***:Hypoxic training can cause(1)significant oxidative stress,including oxLDL,and an antioxidant response(increase in PON1 activity and PON3),(2)differences in the activity of PON1 and ARE,which are modified by PON1-Q192R and PON1-L55M polymorphisms,respectively,and(3)improvements in PON1 activity of QQ and LL ***,hypoxic training can cause a disadvantage of LL and Rc groups for ARE.

Synthesis and characterization of Dy-Eu-Tm co-doped cubic phase stabilized bismuth oxide based electrolytes in terms of intermediate temperature-solid oxide fuel cells(IT-SOFCs)

In this study,a new Dy-Eu-Tm co-doped cubic phase stabilized bismuth oxide solid electrolyte system was synthesized by using solid-state reaction method in atmospheric *** conductivity measurements,X-ray diffraction(XRD)pro files of the annealed samples show that created mixtures have heterogeneous phase,but after conductivity measurements,the face-centered cubic(FCC)crystal structure is stabilized for all ***,the increase in total dopant rate causes an increase in full width half maxima(FWHM)of main peak(111)on the XRD pattern while average crystal size decreases with *** the other hand,the highest conductivity value was obtained for the sample having 15%total dopant rate with 0.62 S/cm at 750℃,whose dopants are evenly distributed in mole *** thermal analysis(DTA)results of the samples having 1:1:1 and 1:2:1 dopant content ratios show that endothermic peak occurs on their DTA curve,indicating crystal structure transformation such as phase transition or order-disorder ***,thermo-gravimetric analysis(TgA)depending on temperature was evaluated in terms of mass *** to TgA curves,mass loss for both heating and cooling process can be negligible due to the small fluctuations(2%)on their TgA curves.

Right lobe living donor liver transplantation(LDLT)is a major development in adult LDLT that has significantly increased the donor pool by providing larger graft size and by decreasing risk of small-for-size graft ***,right lobe anatomy is complex,not only from the inflow but also from the outflow *** reconstruction is one of the key requirements of a successful LDLT and venous drainage of the liver graft is just as important as hepatic inflow for the integrity of graft *** complications may cause acute graft failure which is not always easy to *** right lobe graft consists of two sections and three hepatic venous routes for drainage that require *** order to obtain a congestion free graft,several types of vascular conduits and postoperative interventions are needed to assure an adequate venous allograft *** review described the anatomy,functional basis and the evolution of outflow reconstruction in right lobe LDLT.

Potential role of Müller cells in the pathogenesis of macropsia associated with epiretinal membrane:a hypothesis revisited

Pathophysiological explanations for metamorphopsia associated with retinal pathologies generally focus on photoreceptor organization disruption. However, the retinal microarchitecture is complicated, and we hypothesize that other retinal cells may also be involved. Metamorphopsia has been widely studied in eyes with epiretinal membranes and we revisit the idea that Müller cell displacement causes retinal macropsia. A Pub Med query and related article search for the macula ultrastructure under normal and pathological conditions revealed an enormous amount of information, particularly ultrahigh definition optical coherence tomography and other retinal imaging modality studies. Findings of these imaging studies support our hypothesis that Müller cells, and not cone photoreceptors, are primarily responsible for macropsia in eyes with epiretinal membranes. More specifically, we conclude that displacement of Müller cell endfeet, and not photoreceptor cones, is a more likely the explanation for retinal macropsia associated with epiretinal membranes.

Objective:This study aims to investigate the degree of biocompatibility and neuroregeneration of a polymer tube,poly-3-hydroxyoctanoate(PHO)in nerve gap ***:Forty Wistar Albino male rats were randomized into two groups:autologous nerve gap repair group and PHO tube repair *** each group,a 10-mm right sciatic nerve defect was created and reconstructed *** was studied by sciatic function index(SFI),electromyography,and immunohistochemical studies on Days 7,21,45 and 60 of *** was analyzed by the capsule formation around the *** was analyzed by the molecular weight loss in ***:Electrophysiological and histomorphometric assessments demonstrated neuroregeneration in both groups over *** the experimental group,a straight alignment of the Schwann cells parallel to the axons was ***,autologous nerve graft seems to have a superior neuroregeneration compared to PHO *** biodegradation was observed in PHO conduit at the end of 60 ***:Although neuroregeneration is detected in PHO grafts with minor degradation in 60 d,autologous nerve graft is found to be superior in axonal regeneration compared to PHO nerve tube *** conduits were found to create minor inflammatory reaction in vivo,resulting in good soft tissue response.

INTRODUCTION Synthetic cannabinoids are increasingly used all over the world as marijuana substitutes. They have various names such as spice and bonzai in different countries. Cardiovascular or cerebrovascular events associated with cocaine, heroin and amphetamine abuse have been frequently reported. However, stroke associated with the synthetic cannabinoids use is rarely reported. There are only a few case reports in association with synthetic cannabinoids use. Bernson-Leung et al described 2 cases that introduce a previously unreported association between synthetic cannabinoids use and ischemic stroke in young adults. Here, we report two patients with stroke that occured shortly after synthetic cannabinoids use.

Retrorectal tumors:A challenge for the surgeons

Retrorectal or presacral tumors are rare lesions located in the presacral area and considered as being derived from multiple embryological *** tumors are classified as congenital,neurogenic,osseous,inflammatory,or *** most common among these are congenital benign lesions that present with non-specific symptoms,such as lower back pain and change in bowel *** congenital and developmental tumors occur in younger patients,the median age of presentation is reported to be 45 *** resonance imaging plays a crucial role in treatment management through accurate diagnosis of the lesion,the evaluation of invasion to adjacent structures,and the decision of appropriate surgical *** usefulness of preoperative biopsy is still debated;currently,it is only indicated for solid or heterogeneous tumors if it will alter the treatment *** resection with clear margins is considered the optimal treatment;described approaches are transabdominal,perineal,combined abdominoperineal,and minimally *** retrorectal tumors have favorable long-term outcomes with a low incidence of recurrence,whereas malignant tumors have a potential for distant organ metastasis in addition to local recurrence.
