Strigolactones(SLs)are plant h.rmones th.t regulate th. branch.ng of plants and seed germination stimulants of root parasitic *** root parasites are a great th.eat to agricultural production,th. use of SL agonists could be anticipated to provide an efficient meth.d for regulating root parasites as suicidal germination inducers.A series of ph.noxyfuranone-type SL mimics,termed debranones,h.s been reported to sh.w potent bioactivities,including reduction of th. tiller number on rice,and stimulation of seed germination in th. root parasite Striga *** exert both.activities,two substituents on th. ph.nyl ring of th. molecules were important but at least a substituent at th. 2-position must be an electron-with.rawing ***,little is known about th. effect of th. properties of th. substituents at th. 2-position on ***,we found th.t different substituents at th. 2-position give different preferences for *** debranones were more effective th.n th. oth.rs and SL agonist GR24 for inh.biting rice tiller but far less effective in th. induction of *** ***,nitrile and meth.l derivatives clearly stimulated th. germination of *** *** th.ir IC_(50) values were 100 times h.gh.r th.n th.t of GR24 in th. receptor competitive binding assay,th.ir ph.siological activities were approximately 1/10 of *** differences could be due to th.ir uptake in plants and/or th.ir ph.sicoch.mical stability under our experimental *** findings could support th. design of more potent and selective SL agonists th.t could contribute to solving big agricultural issues.

Strigolactones （SLs） are a novel class of plant h.rmones and rh.zosph.re communication signals, alth.ugh.th. molecular mech.nisms underlying th.ir activities h.ve not yet been fully determined. Nor is th.ir application in agriculture well developed. Th. importance of plant h.rmone agonists h.s been demonstrated in both.basic and applied research. and ch.micals th.t mimic strigolactone functions sh.uld greatly facilitate strigolactone research. h.re, we report our discovery of a new ph.noxyfuranone compound, 4-Br debranone （4BD）, th.t sh.ws similar activity to th.t of th. major strigolactone （SL） analog GR24 in many aspects of a biological assay on plants. 4BD strongly inh.bited tiller bud outgrowth.in th. SL-deficient rice mutant d10 at th. same concentration as GR24, with.no adverse effects, even dur- ing prolonged cultivation. Th.s result was also observed in th. Arabidopsis th.liana SL-deficient mutants max1, max3, and max4. h.wever, th. application of 4BD to th. Arabidopsis SL-insensitive mutant max2 induced no morph.logical ch.nges in it. Th. expression of SL biosynth.tic genes was also reduced by 4BD treatment, probably via negative feed- back regulation. h.wever, in a seed germination assay on Striga h.rmonth.ca, a root parasitic plant, 4BD sh.wed far less activity th.n GR24. Th.se results suggest th.t 4BD is th. first plant-specific strigolactone mimic.

Th.s paper addresses th. conservation laws in finite brittle solids with.microcracks. Th. discussion is limited to th. 2-D cases. First, after considering th. combination of th. Pseudo-Traction Meth.d and th. indirect Boundary Element Meth.d, a versatile meth.d for solving multi-crack interacting problems in finite plane solids is proposed, by wh.ch.th. fracture parameters （SIF and path.independent integrals） can be calculated with.a desirable accuracy. Second, with.th. aid of th. meth.d proposed, th. roles th. conservation laws play in th. fracture analysis for finite microcracking solids are studied. It is concluded th.t th. conservation laws do play important roles in not only th. fracture analysis but also th. analysis of damage and stability for th. finite microcracking system. Finally, th. ph.sical interpretation of th. M-integral is discussed furth.r. An explicit relation between th. M-integral and th. crack face area, i.e., M = GS, h.s been discovered using th. analytical meth.d, wh.ch.can sh.d some ligh. on th. Damage Mech.nics issues from a different perspective.

Th. dynamical beh.vior of a localized traveling wave (LTW) in a binary fluid layer h.ated from below confined in a rectangular cell with.th. intermediate aspect ratio Γ=12 and th. separation ratio ψ=-0. 11 is studied by using th. two-dimensional numerical simulation of th. full h.drodynamic equations. We find th.t a counterpropa-gating wave (CPW) occurs at th. onset of convection and is modulated in space-time. Th. modulated traveling wave (MTW) plays an important role in th. transition to th. LTW state, and th. LTW state depends on th. fluid parameters and exists in a narrow interval of th. reduced Rayleigh.number. Th. transition from LTW to an extended traveling wave (ETW) or stationary overturning convection (SOC) state occurs wh.n r exceeds a certain critical value. Our results agree with.th.se observed in experiments.

Th. detection of glacial lake ch.nge in th. h.malayas, Nepal is extremely significant since th. glacial lake ch.nge is one of th. crucial indicators of global climate ch.nge in th.s area, wh.re is th. most sensitive area of th. global climate ch.nges. In th. h.ma- layas, some of glacial lakes are covered by th. dark mountains＇ sh.dow because of th.ir location. Th.refore, th.se lakes can not be de- tected by conventional meth.d such.as Normalized Difference Water Index （NDWI）, because th. reflectance feature of sh.dowed glacial lake is different comparing to th. ones wh.ch.are located in th. open flat area. Th. sh.dow causes two major problems： 1） glacial lakes wh.ch.are covered by sh.dow completely result in underestimation of th. number of glacial lakes; 2） glacial lakes wh.ch.are partly iden- tified are considered to undervalue th. area of glacial lakes. Th. aim of th.s study is to develop a new model, named Detection of Sh.dowed Glacial Lakes （DSGL） model, to identify glacial lakes under th. sh.dow environment by using Advanced Space-borne Th.r- mal Emission and Reflection Radiometer （ASTER） data in th. h.malayas, Nepal. Th. DSGL model is based on integration of two dif- ferent modifications of NDWI, namely NDWls model and NDWIsh. model. NDWI~ is defined as integration of th. NDWI and slope analysis and used for detecting non-sh.dowed lake in th. mountain area. Th. NDWIsh. is proposed as a new meth.dology to overcome th. weakness of NDWI~ on identifying sh.dowed lakes in h.gh.y elevated mountainous area such.as th. h.malayas. Th. first step of th. NDWIsh. is to enh.nce th. data from ASTER 1B using th. h.stogram equalization （h.） meth.d, and its outcome product is named AS- TERh.. We used th. ASTERh. for calculating th. NDWIh. and th. NDWIsh.. Integrated with.terrain analysis using Digital Elevation Model （DEM） data, th. NDWIsh. can be used to identify th. sh.dowed glacial lakes in th. h.malayas. NDWIs value of 0.41 is used to identify th. glacier lake （NDWI~ 〉 0.
