Heavy metal polluted water threatens the integrity of *** use of agricultural waste as adsorbent becomes popular due to its biodegradability and ***,limited research works has been done to process agricultural waste for heavy metal adsorption *** objective of this study is to propose a new approach to treat banana peel using ZnCl_(2) prior to alkali and acid treatment and explore the potential of dragon fruit peels as the adsorbent for Cu^(2+)*** adsorption isotherm was adopted to identify the adsorption mechanism and four statistical parameters were calculated for model verification *** experiment was conducted by dispersing ZnCl_(2) treated and untreated adsorbents into Cu^(2+) *** showed that ZnCl_(2) treated adsorbents performed better in terms of Cu^(2+) removal compared with untreated adsorbents due to higher surface area for Cu^(2+) *** treated banana peel(Act.-B)performed approximately 30%better than the treated dragon fruit peel(Act.-D)due to the presence of hydroxyl and carboxyl *** equilibrium adsorptive capacity of Act.-B was 1872.8 mg Cu^(2+)/g and the experimental data fitted freundlich isotherm well with R^(2)=0.9978,0.0161 of residual sum of error(SSE),0.0068 of χ^(2),and 0.0567 of root mean square error(RmSE)*** suggests non⁃linear adsorption and multilayer adsorption on heterogenous ***,it is recommended to further improve the surface properties of Act.-B by steam pyrolysis and surface modification.

In this research dobera leaves (DL), an agricultural waste, available in large quantity in south region of Saudi Arabia, were used as low-cost adsorbent for removal of metal ions such as Pb(II). Batch operation was used to study the equilibrium behavior of DL. The effects of initial concentration of Pb(II), solution pH, contact time and adsorbent dose were evaluated. To study the kinetics of adsorption of Pb(II) onto DL, pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order and intra-particle diffusion were used. Adsorption process undergoes pseudo-second-order kinetic as proved by the high value of R2. Furthermore, to design the equilibrium data of adsorption of process, four adsorption isotherm models such as Langmuir, freundlich Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich (D-R) were used. It is found that Langmuir equation has the highest value of R2 (0.999) compared with other models. In presences of a mixture of Pb(II)/Ni(II), DL were found to be selective for Pb(II) ions with a high adsorptive capacity of 83 mg/g and show favorable adsorption with RL minary results indicate that DL are very effective adsorbent for the removal of Pb(II) ions (>90%) from drinking water with less competition of other ions present in water.

REMOVAL OF ARSENIC FROM DRINKING WATER USING BIO-ADSORBENTS

This study evaluates the removal of arsenic from drinking water by using some bio-adsorbents such as jute stick powder（JSP）, jute leaf powder（JLP）, sugarcane powder（SCP）, lily leaf powder（LLP）, fish ayes powder（FAP）, egg’s skull（ES）, dheki（pteris） vegetable powder（DVP）, fern（Dryopteris ramosa） plant powder（FPP） and water hyacinth root powder（WRHP）. Both the batch and column studies were performed to assess the arsenic removal activity of bio-adsorbents. The isotherm study showed that the observed data of JSP, SCP, FAP and WHRP fit well to the Langmuir and freundlich isotherm model. The adsorption capacities of JSP, JLP, DVP and FPP were 6.67×10-5 Kg/Kg, 5.21×10-5Kg/Kg, 4.79×10-5 Kg/Kg and 4.74×10-5 Kg/Kg. The K f values were 7.79×10-6 Kg/Kg（JSP）, 6.64×10-6Kg/Kg（JLP）, 1.3×10-5 Kg/Kg（DVP） and 1.06×10-5 Kg/Kg（FPP）. The values of Langmuir constant b,for JSP, JLP, DVP and FPP are 0.039, 0.046, 0.23 and 0.13, respectively. The freundlich constants,n＞1 and the values of 1/n fell between 0.36 and 0.44 for JSP, JLP, DVP and FPP.

本工作对Cd(Ⅱ)在多孔六方氮化硼(p-BN)上的吸附行为和机理进行了系统而全面的研究,考察了溶液pH、吸附剂用量、接触时间和温度等条件对于Cd(Ⅱ)吸附的影响,并采用不同手段表征了吸附前后p-BN的化学组成、形态和表面官能团的变化,进而研究其吸附机理。研究结果显示,在pH 7.0和313 K条件下, Cd(Ⅱ)的最大吸附容量可达到184mg·g–1,其动力学数据与拟二级模型和颗粒内扩散模型吻合,表明吸附主要受化学吸附控制,限速步骤主要是分子扩散。Cd(Ⅱ)在p-BN上的吸附是一个自发和吸热过程,吸附等温线分别符合freundlich和Langmuir模型,说明Cd(Ⅱ)通过多层和单层吸附而吸附在非均相表面上。XPS的光谱结果显示,p-BN吸附剂具有大量的B–N,B–O等结构用作键合位点,有利于从废水中吸收Cd(Ⅱ)。这些结果表明, p-BN有希望作为吸附材料用于清除水体中的Cd(Ⅱ)。

Equilibrium adsorption studies for detoxification of Congo Red (CR) dye from single component model wastewater by powdered watermelon rinds and neem leaves adsorbents were carried out with the view to test the applicability of the adsorption process to Langmuir, freundlich, Temkin, Dubinin-Radushkevich and Harkins-Jura isotherm models. The values of correlation coefficient, R2 (0.9359 - 0.9998), showed that all the experimental data fitted the linear plots of the tested isotherm models. Dubinin-Radushkevich’s monolayer maximum adsorption capacity qD (20.72 - 26.06 mg/g) is better than Langmuir’s qm (18.62 - 24.75 mg/g) for both adsorbents with the capacities higher for adsorption on watermelon rind than on neem leaves. Values of Langmuir separation factor (RL) suggest unfavourable adsorption processes (i.e. chemisorption) of the dye on both the adsorbents, while freundlich constant (nF) indicates unfavourable process only for CR adsorption onto neem leaves. The Dubinin-Radushkevich’s mean free energy of adsorption, E (0.29 - 0.32 kJ/mol), suggests physical adsorption processes. Values for Temkin’s heat of adsorption, bT (-0.95 to 0.74 kJ/mol), also show physical adsorption process.

A biocarbon after activation process showed the removal percentage of 92% of methylene blue in solution, the equilibrium parameter—RL value was in the interval from 0 to 1, with 46% of surface coverage degree. The freundlich constant (n) was higher than 1 as an indication of the physical adsorption process. The Radlich-Peterson calculations obtained the higher R2 value which g constant near 1, a high similarity with Langmuir model. Temkin constant B1 was a positive indication of endothermic process. All calculations provided favorable results for the use of activated biocarbon for dye removing and possible for other organic substances.

研究磷酸钛离子交换剂(Li-TiOP)在饱和LiNO_(3)溶液中对Cu^(2+)、Co^(2+)、mn^(2+)、Ni^(2+)和Cr^(3+)离子的吸附性能。采用XRD、SEm、TG、DSC、NGSP和元素分析对固体样品进行表征。采用原子吸收光谱法(AAS)和电感耦合等离子体质谱法(ICP mS)测定溶液中离子的浓度。采用Langmuir、freundlich、Temkin和Nikolsky模型计算金属离子的吸附等温线。在研究金属离子吸附时,必须考虑吸附剂的溶剂化状态。Li-TiOP对所研究离子的选择性为:Cr^(3+)>Cu^(2+)>mn^(2+)>Co^(2+)>Ni^(2+),且对上述4种模型均适用。吸附过程热力学参数的变化与吸附剂离子电位的变化有关。磷酸钛能有效去除多组分溶液中的微量金属离子,使LiNO_(3)纯度高于99.999%(质量分数)。

The adsorption capacities for the removal of hexavalent chromium from aqueous solutions by six carbon nanomaterials have been evaluated. Single-walled and multi-walled carbon nanotubes as received and after oxidation treatment, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide are the materials with different dimension and functionalization compared in this research. Carbon nanotubes have been modified using hydrogen peroxide as oxidizing agent under microwave radiation. The oxidation treatment on carbon nanotubes has a positive effect increasing the adsorbent–adsorbate interaction. Rate-controlling mechanisms and equilibrium data are analyzed using non-linear models. Non-linear method is proposed as the most suitable method for determining the kinetic and equilibrium parameters. The values of adsorption energy(E) obtained from the Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm,have been found around 0.371 and 0.870 k J·mol-1, indicating physical adsorption. Therefore, the pseudo-second order model represents better the kinetic experimental data. The results show that the Langmuir isotherm provides a slightly better fit to the experimental data compared with the freundlich isotherm, indicating homogeneous distribution of active sites on carbon nanomaterials and monolayer adsorption. The separation factors RLare found in the range of 0–1, suggesting that the adsorption process is suitable for all adsorbents. The mechanisms for hexavalent chromium removal have been proposed as electrostatic interactions and hydrogen bonding.

Low-cost adsorbents, magnesium ferrite (mgFe2O4) nanoparticles were synthesized using three different types of fuel such as Urea, Oxalic acid, and Citric acid via sol-gel auto-combustion method. The prepared products were characterized by means of powder X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Field Emission Scanning Electron microscope (FE-SEm). The influence of the fuel used on the morphology and the crystallite size of mgFe2O4 Nano products were studied. The results showed that Citric acid fuel produced pure mgFe2O4 with the smallest crystallite size average cluster = 13.53 nm. The synthesized sample was used for the removal of 99TcO4- anions from low level liquid waste under studied conditions. The different parameters affecting on the adsorption process using the batch method were studied. The results revealed that mgFe2O4 nanostructure has high removal ability of 99TcO4- from aqueous solutions (98.84%). The adsorption data are in good agreement with freundlich and Pseudo second order isotherm models. The adsorption process was a chemisorption reaction additionally, the results of the thermodynamic parameters indicated that the adsorption of 99TcO4- on nanostructures was an exothermic and spontaneous process.
