The thermal ecology of ectotherms has been studied for almost 2 centuries,but additional attention is currently being paid to it,to understand how organisms deal with the environment in a climate change context.A consensus is still far away due to the large number of factors involved and their complex *** this context,3 analyses in lacertid lizards were carried out:(i)a meta-analysis,to test for differences between body and air temperatures from 71 populations;(ii)a meta-analysis concerning correlations between body and air temperatures from 60 populations;and(iii)a multimodel inference of thermoregulation effectiveness indices from 45 *** importance of different factors,including body size,habitat,insularity,altitude,climate and season,was evaluated in all analyses to model the response variables.A strong seasonality effect was observed,with a consistent pattern of less effective thermoregulation in summer compared to other *** was the second most important factor,with a consistent higher thermoregulation effort in populations occurring at high elevations(>1000 m above sea level).Other factors,such as insularity or body size,can also be important,but did not exhibit a clear ***,thermoregulation was less affected by climate and habitat type.

Extracellular vesicles(EVs) are membrane-derived vesicles which can be released by different cell types, including hepatocytes, hepatic stellate cells and immune cells in normal and pathological conditions. EVs carry lipids, proteins, coding and non-coding RNAs and mitochondrial DNA causing modifications on the recipient cells. These vesicles are considered potential biomarkers and therapeutic agents for human diagnostic and prognostic due to their function as intercellular mediators of cell-cell communication within the liver and between other organs. However, the development and optimization of methods for EVs isolation is required to characterize their biological functions as well as their potential as a treatment option in the clinic. Nevertheless, many questions remain unanswered related to the function of EVs under physiological and pathological conditions. In the current editorial, the results obtained in different studies that investigated the role of intrahepatic EVs during liver diseases, including drug-induced liver injury, non-alcoholic fatty liver, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, alcoholic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma and extrahepatic EVs in remote organs during pathological events such as pulmonary disease, cardiovascular diseases, neurodegenerative disorders e.g., Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis as well as in immunopathological processes, are discussed. Although much light needs to be shed on the mechanisms of EVs, these membranederived vesicles represent both a novel promising diagnostic, and a therapeutic tool for clinical use that we emphasize in the current editorial.

The inverted retina is a basic characteristic of the vertebrate *** implies that vertebrates must have a common ancestor with an inverted *** the two groups of chordates,cephalochordates have an inverted retina and urochordates a direct ***,recent genetics studies favor urochordates as the closest ancestor to *** evolution of increasingly complex organs such as the eye implies not only tissular but also structural modifications at the organ *** these configurational modifications give rise to a functional eye at any step is still subject to debate and *** we propose an orderly sequence of phylogenetic events that closely follows the sequence of developmental eye formation in extant *** progressive structural complexity has been clearly recorded during vertebrate development at the period of *** the chain of increasing eye complexity in Mollusca that leads to the bicameral eye of the octopus and the developmental sequence in vertebrates,we delineate the parallel evolution of the two-chambered eye of vertebrates starting with an early ectodermal *** sequence allows for some interesting predictions regarding the eyes of not preserved intermediary *** clue to understanding the inverted retina of vertebrates and the similarity between the sequence followed by Mollusca and chordates is the notion that the eye in both cases is an ectodermal structure,in contrast to an exclusively(de novo)neuroectodermal origin in the eye of *** analysis places cephalochordates as the closest branch to vertebrates contrary to urochordates,claimed as a closer branch by some researchers that base their proposals in a genetic analysis.

Consider a foliate Rn-action on a compact connected foliated manifold (M,F). Let mand r be the codimension of F and the (transverse)rank of (M,F)respectively. Suppose r<*** this paper we prove that either there exists an orbit of the Rn-action of transverse dimension< (m + r)/2 or F can be arbitrarily approached by foliations with rank≥r+1. Moreover weshow that this kind of orbits exists in the following three cases: if F is Riemannian ;when all itsleaves are closed or if X(M)≠0(then r=0).On the other hand all foliate Rn-action on (S3,F) has a fixed leaf if dimF=*** result generalies a well known Lima's theorem about Rn-actions on surfaces.

Most redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes are reduced during the day and oxidized during the *** the reduction mechanism of light-dependent enzymes is well known,the mechanism mediating their oxidation in the dark remains *** thiol-dependent peroxidases,2-Cys peroxiredoxins (Prxs),play a key role in light-dependent reduction of chloroplast *** transfer reducing equivalents of thiols to hydrogen peroxide,suggesting the participation of these peroxidases in enzyme oxidation in the ***,we have addressed this issue by analyzing the redox state of well-known redox-regulated chloroplast enzymes in response to darkness in Arabidopsis thaliana mutants deficient in chloroplastlocalized Prxs (2-Cys Prxs A and B,Prx ⅡE,and Prx Q).Mutant plants lacking 2-Cys Prxs A and B,and plants overexpressing NADPH-dependent thioredoxin (Trx) reductase C showed delayed oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the *** contrast,the deficiencies of Prx ⅡE or Prx Q exerted no *** vitro assays allowed the reconstitution of the pathway of reducing equivalents from reduced fructose 1,6-bisphosphatase to hydrogen peroxide mediated by Trxs and 2-Cys *** together,these results suggest that 2-Cys Prxs participate in the short-term oxidation of chloroplast enzymes in the dark.

Members of the Torpedinidae(torpedoes)and Hypnidae(coffin ray)use electric organ discharges(EOD)to stun or kill their prey before *** investigated whether EOD could also negatively affect the helminth larvae infecting these preys through a surrogate model:we applied electric discharges to individuals of blue whiting,Micromesistius poutassou,that harbored live larvae of *** mortality throughout a 6-h period was significantly higher in the treatment group,suggesting that EODs could significantly hamper helminth *** then tested whether torpedinids and hypnids(“strong-EOD”families)harbored species-poor helminth(cestode)assemblages compared with“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes(Narcidae and Narkidae)and other *** on comparisons on estimated species diversity and mean species richness of tapeworms at host individual level we found that(i)Torpediniformes had the lowest tapeworm diversity of all Batoidea orders;(ii)Torpedo *** had the lowest mean cestode richness at host individual level,and this could not be related to other host factors influencing cestode diversity in chondrichthyans,that is body size,trophic level or dietary ***,a preliminary comparison between“strong-EOD”and“weak-EOD”Torpediniformes did not detect clear differences of cestode ***,evidence supporting an unambiguous contribution of EODs to depauperate cestode assemblages requires further research.

Sejima and Nishizawa have developed their work without explicitly referencing a theoretical ***,they have stated that their housing projects describe their"architectural biography."This study presents the hypothesis that systermic theories had infu-enced their housing projects at a spatial and constructive *** the aim of testing it,the research produces four lines of ***,we observe that the word system is prominently current in a signifcant sample of their published *** describe how architects like Tomi-naga,Ito,Taki,and Shinohara,who infuenced Sejima when she was still a student,discussed this concept inspired by Christopher Alexander's *** second line brings together all the couple's single-family housing projects published between 1987 and 2010 for the first time in a single document,as well as an original graphic-constructive reconstruction of the most outstanding ***,we unveil the emergence of four constructive patterns by applying these theories to the graphic material ***,we summarize the results in dia-grams,showing the frequency,intensity,and continuity of the identified patterns in the four phases throughout the studied *** the hypothesis facilitates further research relate their domestic work and their other types of projects.
