Unveiling plant defense arsenal: metabolic strategies in Brassica oleracea during black rot disease

Alterations in plant metabolism play a key role in the complex plant-pathogen ***,there is still a lack of knowledge about the connection between changes in primary and specialized metabolism and the plant defense against diseases that impact ***,we aim to study the metabolic reprograming in Brassica oleracea plants upon infection by Xanthomonas campestris ***(Xcc).To accomplish this,we utilized a combination of untargeted and targeted metabolomics,through UPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS and 1H-NMR,in two crop lines differing in resistance thatwere evaluated at two-and four-week intervals following inoculation(T1 and T2,respectively).Besides,to depict the physiological status of the plant during infection,enzymatic activities related to the carbohydrate pathway and oxidative stress were *** results revealed different temporal dynamics in the responses of the susceptible *** crops *** *** line suppresses carbohydrate metabolism contributing to limit nutrient supplies to the bacterium and prioritizes the induction of defensive compounds such as indolic glucosinolates,salicylic acid,phenylpropanoids and phytoalexins precursors at early infection *** contrast,the susceptible line invests in carbohydratemetabolism,including enzymatic activities related to the hexoses turnover,and activates defense signaling related to reactive oxygen ***,each line triggers a different metabolic strategy that will affect how the plant overcomes the disease in terms of resistance and *** work provides first insights of a fine-tuned metabolic regulation during Xcc infection in *** that will contribute to develop new strategies for plant disease management.

Diabetes mellitus is a major health problem with increasing prevalence at a global *** discovery of insulin in the early 1900 s represented a major breakthrough in diabetes management,with further milestones being subsequently achieved with the identification of glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1)and the introduction of GLP-1 receptor agonists(GLP-1 RAs)in clinical ***,the subcutaneous delivery of biotherapeutics is a well-established route of administration generally preferred over the intravenous route due to better patient compliance and prolonged drug ***,current subcutaneous formulations of GLP-1 RAs present pharmacokinetic problems that lead to adverse reactions and treatment *** this review,we discuss the current challenges of subcutaneous administration of peptide-based therapeutics and provide an overview of the formulations available for the different routes of administration with improved bioavailability and reduced frequency of administration.

Tracking the phase transformation and microstructural evolution of Sn anode using operando synchrotron X-ray energy-dispersive diffraction and X-ray tomography

Tin(Sn)holds great promise as an anode material for next-generation lithium(Li)ion batteries but suffers from massive volume change and poor cycling *** clarify the dynamic chemical and microstructural evolution of Sn anode during lithiation and delithiation,synchrotron X-ray energydispersive diffraction and X-ray tomography are simultaneously employed during Li/Sn cell *** intermediate Li-Sn alloy phases during de/lithiation are identified,and their dynamic phase transformation is unraveled which is further correlated with the volume variation of the Sn at particle-and ***,we find that the Sn particle expansion/shrinkage induced particle displacement is anisotropic:the displacement perpendicular to the electrode surface(z-axis)is more pronounced compared to the directions(x-and y-axis)along the electrode *** anisotropic particle displacement leads to an anisotropic volume variation at the electrode level and eventually generates a net electrode expansion towards the separator after cycling,which could be one of the root causes of mechanical detachment and delamination of electrodes during long-term *** unraveled chemical evolution of Li-Sn and deep insights into the microstructural evolution of Sn anode provided here could guide future design and engineering of Sn and other alloy anodes for high energy density Li-and Na-ion batteries.

The aims of this work turn towards the valorization of the underutilized Raw Sugar Beet Pulp by-product to produce white Cellulose Microfibers(CMFs),and its potential effect as a reinforcement for the development of High-Density Polyethylene(HDPE)*** CMFs were first obtained by subjecting raw SBP to alkali and bleaching *** characterization techniques were performed to confirm the successful removal of the amorphous compounds from the surface of individual fibers,including SEM,XRD,TGA,and FT-IR *** CMF loadings(5–10 wt%)were incorporated as bio-fillers into HDPE polymer to evaluate their reinforcing ability in comparison to raw and alkali-treated SBP using twin-screw extrusion followed by injection ***–(Ethylene–Butene)–Styrene Three-Block Co-Polymer Grafted with Maleic Anhydride was used as a compatibilizer to improve the interfacial adhesion between fibers and the ***,mechanical,and rheological properties of the produced composite samples were *** was found that the Young’s modulus were gradually increased with increasing of fibers loadings,with a maximum increase of 30%and 26%observed for composite containing 10 wt%of CMFs and raw SBP,respectively,over neat ***,the use of coupling agent enhances the ductile behavior of the *** was also found that all fiber improves the hardness and toughness behavior of all reinforced composites as well as the complex modulus particularly at 10 wt%.The thermal stability slightly increases with the addition of *** study demonstrates a new route for the valorization of SBP *** fibers can be considered as a valuable bio-fillers candidate for the development of composite materials with enhanced properties.

This research analyzes the earliest located floor plan of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba,an anonymous oil painting in 1741,which has not been studied so *** objective is to know the dimensional accuracy of the most relevant architectural forms drawn,considering the elements referenced in their legend and the graphic symbols used,to assess their documentary *** has also been compared with two important plans of the MosqueCathedral drawn in 1767 and *** first task was a photogrammetric survey of the oil painting has been carried ***,some data has been measured in the monument using a 3D *** orthophoto of the oil painting has been overlapped to the digital model to verify its metric accuracy in a selection of *** the first time,the legend and labels included in the oil painting have been *** precise graphic document contains reliable abundant data for future research about the transformations and restorations of a monument that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage *** oil painting dating from 1741 can be considered as the first scientific plan of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba,and as an outstanding architectural survey of eighteenth-century Europe.

The present work analyzes the monotypic Taenidium barretti ichnofabric developed in abandoned channels and floodplains to understand its paleoecological significance in highly seasonal fluvial *** data come from the Cretaceous paleosols of the Marília Formation(Bauru Basin,SE Brazil),in which the *** ichnofabric and rhizoliths represent the biotic *** larvae are considered to be the most likely *** tracemakers in these *** intensity and recurrence of bioturbation suggest that the windows of opportunity for beetle population growth were very short and controlled by the progressive substrate desiccation after flood *** characteristics of the trace fossil assemblage suggest soil colonization by r-strategic organisms triggered by flooding events that provided the resource inputs necessary for their living during rainy *** results also show that in fluvial systems with high discharge variations,the boundaries between a“pre-desiccation suite”and a“desiccation suite”in the Scoyenia ichnofacies can be diffuse due to the short duration of colonization windows and progressive terrestrialization of floodplains and ***,the frequency of flooding events,the lowered water table,and the rapidity of substrate desiccation constrained colonization by other burrowers and may be considered as firstorder factors controlling the generation of a monotypic *** ***,the monotypic Taenidium ichnofabric in the Scoyenia ichnofacies context is an ichnomarker of brief windows for colonization in highly seasonal environments.

Background:To conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of epidemiological data of injuries in male and female youth football ***:Searches were performed in MEDLINE/PubMed,Web of Science,Cochrane Library,and SPORTDiscus *** were considered if they reported injury incidence rate in male and female youth(≤19 years old)football *** reviewers(FJRP and ALV)extracted data and assessed trial quality using the Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology(STROBE)statement and the Newcastle Ottawa *** Grading of Recommendations Assessment,Development,and Evaluation approach determined the quality of *** were combined using a Poisson random effects regression ***:Forty-three studies were *** overall incidence rate was 5.70 injuries/1000 h in males and 6.77 injuries/1000 h in *** injury incidence(14.43 injuries/1000 h in males and 14.97 injuries/1000 h in females)was significantly higher than training injury incidence(2.77 injuries/1000 h in males and 2.62 injuries/1000 h in females).The lower extremity had the highest incidence rate in both *** most common type of injury was muscle/tendon for males and joint/ligament for *** injuries were the most common in both *** incidence rate of injuries increased with advances in chronological age in *** male players presented higher match injury incidence than sub-elite *** females,there was a paucity of data for comparison across age groups and levels of ***:The high injury incidence rates and sex differences identified for the most common location and type of injury reinforce the need for implementing different targeted injury-risk mitigation strategies in male and female youth football players.

Turning carbon dots into selenium bearing nanoplatforms with in vitro GPx-like activity and pro-oxidant activity

Twisted bilayer graphene(TBG)has taken the spotlight in the condensed matter community since the discovery of correlated *** this work,we study heterostructures of TBG and hexagonal boron nitride(hBN)using an atomistic tight-binding model together with semi-classical molecular dynamics to consider relaxation *** hBN substrate has significant effects on the band structure of TBG even in the case where TBG and hBN are not ***,the substrate induces a large mass gap and strong pseudo-magnetic fields that break the layer ***,such degeneracy can be recovered with a second hBN ***,we develop a continuum model that describes the tight-binding band *** results show that a real-space tight-binding model in combination with semi-classical molecular dynamics is a powerful tool to study the electronic properties of moiréheterostructures,and to explain experimental results in which the effect of the substrate plays an important role.
