Polygeneration Study of Low-to-Medium Enthalpy Geothermal Reservoirs in Mexico

This study combines the thermodynamic analysis of a polygeneration system along with the numerical modelling of the thermal behavior of geothermal reservoirs in Mexico to exploit their *** reservoir was modeled as a porous medium assuming a five-spot well configuration and local thermal *** heat conduction-convection along with the Laplace equations were solved to compute temperature distributions,the useful life and the optimum distance between injection-extraction *** predicted temperature and pressure of the geothermal fluid at the outlet of the reservoir were exploited in the polygeneration system consisting of:(1)a Rankine cycle,(2)an absorption refrigeration cycle,and(3)a heat *** developed approach allows calculating both the optimal distance between injection-extraction wells and the global(utilization)efficiency of six arrangements(each composed by a reservoir connected to a polygeneration system)by assuming that reservoirs have a lifespan of 30 *** also show that:(a)due to the low efficiency of the Rankine cycle,very little thermal energy is converted into electrical one;(b)not only the temperature and the size are important when evaluating the power production performance of reservoirs,but also the permeability plays a fundamental role;(c)the first law efficiency of the polygeneration system ranges from 41.9%to 43.7%;(d)the utilization efficiency of the six arrangements lies in the range between 25.8%and 31%.

A series of lithium metasilicate （Li2SiO3） powder materials has been successfully synthesized by the microwave-assisted hydrothermal route using lithium hydroxide and tetraethyl-orthosilicate-derived sol precursors. ceramic powders were obtained under hydrothermal conditions of autogenous pressure in the presence of a nonionic surfactant. The production of pure and well-crystallized Li2 SiO3 using very short reaction times at low temperatures was shown by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and N2 adsorption-desorption analyses. Synthesized Li2SiO3 particles were nanocrystalline and exhibited different morphologies and specific surface areas depending on the synthesis conditions. Additionally, the capability of selected Li2SiO3 samples to absorb H20 and cO2 was evaluated via thermogravimet- ric analyses by varying the temperature, carrier gas, and water vapor concentration. Li2SiO3 particles exhibited interesting textural and morphological characteristics that make them suitable for use as a cO2 absorbent and which suggest that they also have the potential to be used in other applications.

As Public Transport(PT)becomes more dynamic and demand-responsive,it increasingly depends on predictions of transport *** how accurate need such predictions be for effective PT operation?We address this question through an experimental case study of PT trips in Metropolitan copenhagen,Denmark,which we conduct independently of any specific prediction ***,we simulate errors in demand prediction through unbiased noise distributions that vary considerably in *** the noisy predictions,we then simulate and optimize demand-responsive PT fleets via a linear programming formulation and measure their *** results suggest that the optimized performance is mainly affected by the skew of the noise distribution and the presence of infrequently large prediction *** particular,the optimized performance can improve under non-Gaussian *** *** also find that dynamic routing could reduce trip time by at least 23%*** *** reduction is estimated at 809,000€/year in terms of Value of Travel Time Savings for the case study.

Monthly and seasonal streamflow forecasting of large dryland catchments in Brazil

Streamflow forecasting in drylands is *** are scarce,catchments are highly humanmodified and streamflow exhibits strong nonlinear responses to *** goal of this study was to evaluate the monthly and seasonal streamflow forecasting in two large catchments in the Jaguaribe River Basin in the Brazilian semi-arid *** adopted four different lead times:one month ahead for monthly scale and two,three and four months ahead for seasonal *** gaps of the historic streamflow series were filled up by using rainfall-runoff ***,time series model techniques were applied,i.e.,the locally constant,the locally averaged,the k-nearest-neighbours algorithm(k-NN)and the autoregressive(AR)*** criterion of reliability of the validation results is that the forecast is more skillful than streamflow *** approach outperformed the streamflow climatology for all monthly *** average,the former was 25%better than the *** seasonal streamflow forecasting(SSF)was also reliable(on average,20%better than the climatology),failing slightly only for the high flow season of one catchment(6%worse than the climatology).considering an uncertainty envelope(probabilistic forecasting),which was considerably narrower than the data standard deviation,the streamflow forecasting performance increased by about 50%at both *** forecast errors were mainly driven by the streamflow intra-seasonality at monthly scale,while they were by the forecast lead time at seasonal *** best-fit and worst-fit time series model were the k-NN approach and the AR model,*** rainfall-runoff modelling outputs played an important role in improving streamflow forecasting for one streamgauge that showed 35%of data *** developed data-driven approach is mathematical and computationally very simple,demands few resources to accomplish its operational implementation and is applicable to other dryland *** findings may be part of drou

Spices are defined as any aromatic condiment of plant origin used to alter the flavor and aroma of foods. Besides flavor and aroma, many spices have antioxidant activity, mainly related to the presence in cloves of phenolic compounds, such as flavonoids, terpenoids and eugenol. In turn, the most common uses of gum arabic are in the form of powder for addition to soft drink syrups, cuisine and baked goods, specifically to stabilize the texture of products, increase the viscosity of liquids and promote the leavening of baked products (e.g., cakes). Both eugenol, extracted from cloves, and gum arabic, extracted from the hardened sap of two species of the Acacia tree, are dietary constituents routinely consumed virtually throughout the world. Both of them are also widely used medicinally to inhibit oxidative stress and genotoxicity. The prevention arm of the study included groups: Ia, IIa, IIIa, Iva, V, VI, VII, VIII. Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the same period and for an additional 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG, or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The treatment arm of the study included groups Ib, IIb, IIIb e IVb, IX, X, XI, XII). Once a week for 20 weeks, the controls received saline s.c. while the experimental groups received DMH at 20 mg/kg s.c. During the subsequent 9 weeks, the animals received either water, 10% GA, EUG or 10% GA + EUG by gavage. The novelty of this study is the investigation of their use alone and together for the prevention and treatment of experimental colorectal carcinogenesis induced by dimethylhydrazine. Our results show that the combined use of 10% gum arabic and eugenol was effective, with antioxidant action in the colon, as well as reducing oxidative stress in all colon segments and preventing and treating genotoxicity in all colon segments. Kernel-Based State-Space Kriging for Predictive control

In this paper, we extend the state-space kriging(SSK) modeling technique presented in a previous work by the authors in order to consider non-autonomous systems. SSK is a data-driven method that computes predictions as linear combinations of past outputs. To model the nonlinear dynamics of the system, we propose the kernel-based state-space kriging(K-SSK), a new version of the SSK where kernel functions are used instead of resorting to considerations about the locality of the data. Also, a Kalman filter can be used to improve the predictions at each time step in the case of noisy measurements. A constrained tracking nonlinear model predictive control(NMPc) scheme using the black-box input-output model obtained by means of the K-SSK prediction method is proposed. Finally, a simulation example and a real experiment are provided in order to assess the performance of the proposed controller.
