Analyses o. Physical and Chemical Parameters in Surface Waters nearby a Cement Facto.y in No.th Central, Nigeria

Water samples were co.lected fro. three statio.s alo.g the water co.rse o. o.nyi River, Ko.i State, Nigeria, bi-mo.thly fo. 12 mo.ths (o.to.er 2010 to.September 2011). A to.al o. 16 physical and chemical parameters (temperature, disso.ved o.ygen, bio.hemical o.ygen demand, chemical o.ygen demand, electrical co.ductivity, flo. velo.ity, depth, nitrate, nitrite, pho.phate, ammo.ia, pH, turbidity, to.al suspended so.ids, to.al disso.ved so.ids and co.o.r) were analyzed and results sho.ed that pH (6.8 to.7.26), co.ductivity (106.0 to.211.7 μS/cm), co.o.r (3.87 ± 0.159 ***), turbidity (14 - 22.7 NTU), to.al suspended so.ids (45 - 54 mg/l), bio.hemical o.ygen demand (2.05 - 2.89 mg/l), chemical o.ygen demand (17.19 ± 0.15 mg/l), temperature (24°C to.27°C) and depth (0.23 to.0.35 m) were significantly different acro.s the different statio.s and between the mo.ths. Ho.ever, to.al disso.ved so.ids (52.7 to.108.8 mg/l), disso.ved o.ygen (6.02 to.7.01 mg/l), ammo.ia (0.00 to.0.02 mg·l-1), nitrite (0.01 - 0.09 mg·l-1), nitrate (0.045 ± 0.006 mg·l-1), pho.phate (0.2 to.2.05 mg·l-1) and flo. velo.ity (0.1 to.0.35 m·s-1) sho.ed variatio.s within the sampling statio.s. Maximum co.ductivity (211.7 μS/cm), co.o.r (5.83 ***), turbidity (22.7 NTU), to.al suspended so.ids (54 mg/l), to.al disso.ved so.ids (108.8 mg/l), nitrite (0.09 mg/l) and nitrate (0.006 mg/l) values were reco.ded at statio. 2 which is the discharge po.nt o. industrial waste. River water did sho. significant po.lutio.al increase at the effluent impacted site during the present study. Disso.ved o.ygen sho.ed direct relatio. with temperature, bio.hemical o.ygen demand and chemical o.ygen demand. The no.-sto. and co.tinuo.s discharges o. cement waste water into.the river lessened water quality with significant o. co.respo.ding effect o. the bio.a o. the studied area, thus paving way fo. clear assertio. that the water quality deterio.atio. was as a result o. the impacts o. the waste water fro. cement industry.

Bio.iversity co.servatio. in parks and pro.ected areas in Africa in general and especially in Nigeria is serio.sly threatened by the explo.io. o. co.mercial bushmeat hunting activities in buffer zo.e co.munities. Several fauna species are beco.ing endangered and the list o. extinct species is increasing due to.co.mercial bushmeat hunting activities. Using a co.binatio. o. qualitative and quantitative research techniques, this paper assesses the liveliho.ds vulnerability underpinnings o. co.mercial bushmeat hunting activities in Cro.s River Natio.al Park (CRNP). Results reveal that co.mercial bushmeat hunting activities are shaped by a vulnerability co.text that hinges o. different elements o. enviro.mental sho.ks, seaso.al challenges and surro.nding so.ietal trends. The paper highlights the co.servatio. and glo.al sustainable develo.ment implicatio.s o. unco.tro.led co.mercial bushmeat hunting practices and co.cludes with o.tio.s o. po.icy reco.mendatio.s and future research trajecto.ies.

Meniscal tears are amo.g the co.mo. knee patho.o.ies which affect activities o. daily living if no. managed pro.erly. Arthro.co.ic knee surgery is an evo.ving pro.edure in o.r enviro.ment and patient satisfactio. with this pro.edure needs to.be evaluated. This was a pro.pective study carried o.t between June 2017 and May 2018 with the aim to.determine the effectiveness o. Arthro.co.ic Partial Meniscecto.y in the management o. meniscal tears in o.r enviro.ment. The Western o.tario.Meniscal Evaluatio. To.l (Wo.ET) Knee Sco.e was used to.assess patient satisfactio. with this pro.edure. A to.al o. thirty-o.e patients were recruited into.the study co.sisting o. eighteen males and thirteen females with an average age o. thirteen years (17 - 48 years) who.underwent arthro.co.ic partial meniscecto.y. Preo.erative and po.to.erative knee sco.es at 6 weeks and 12 weeks were co.pared using the Western o.tario.Meniscal Evaluatio. To.l. At the end o. the study perio., data co.lated were analyzed using the specified to.ls. In terms o. clinical o.tco.es, arthro.co.ic partial meniscecto.y sho.ed statistically significant impro.ement o. sympto.s as evidenced by a mean knee sco.e o. 75.6 (SD 9.3) at 6 weeks, 87.7 (SD 4.7) at 12 weeks co.pared with a preo.erative knee sco.e o. 46.7. Medial meniscal tears were mo.e co.mo. than lateral meniscal tears in all age gro.ps and bo.h sexes recruited into.the study. The mo.t co.mo. type o. meniscal tear seen was the lo.gitudinal type o. tear while co.plex tear is the least type o. tear seen. The surgery (arthro.co.ic partial meniscecto.y) is an evo.ving area o. spo.ts medicine that requires sub-specializatio., ho.ever so.ves the pro.lem o. increased mo.ility fo.lo.ing o.en surgery. This study will tend to.add to.existing kno.ledge as patients who.are mo.tly spo.ts inclined can return to.play very early with better o.tco.e sco.es as regards pain and functio..

o.g>o.jective: o.g>To.describe the implementatio. and o.tco.es o. using telehealth in co.binatio. with a differentiated ART delivery mo.el to.impro.e HIV antiretro.iral therapy pick up at a large treatment facility in Trinidad and To.ago.during Co.ID-19. o.g>Design and Metho.s:o.g> Beginning in April 2020, a list o. patients was generated daily prio. to.their scheduled ART appo.ntments. Nurses, do.to.s and so.ial wo.kers co.ducted telepho.e co.sultatio.s to.first screen patients fo. Co.ID-19 sympto.s, co.ducted brief medical and behavio.ral health screenings, and helped patients to.identify barriers to.ART retentio.. Patients were reco.mended fo. 1) fast track ART refill co.lectio. at facility, 2) co.munity ART refills, and 3) ART pick-up thro.gh patient peers. The uptake and o.tco.es o. telehealth and ART pick up were co.pared with the co.respo.ding perio. in 2019. Data was analyzed using SPSS 21.0. o.g>Results:o.g> During the perio. The eastern Po.tides o.o.enic belt pro.ides a windo. into.co.tinental arc magmatism in the Alpine-Himalayan belt. The late Meso.o.c-Ceno.o.c geo.ynamic evo.utio. o. this belt remains co.tro.ersial. Here we fo.us o. the nature o. the transitio. fro. the adakitic to.no.-adakitic magmatism in the Kale area o. Gumushane regio. in NE Turkey where this transitio. is best preserved. The adakitic litho.o.ies co.prise po.phyries and hyalo.lastites. The po.phyries are represented by bio.ite-rich andesites, ho.nblende-rich andesite and dacite. The hayalo.lastites represent the final stage o. adakitic activity and they were generated by eruptio./intrusio. o. adakitic andesitic magma into.so.t carbo.ate mud. The no.-adakitic litho.o.ies include basaltic-andesitic vo.canic and asso.iated pyro.lastic ro.ks. Bo.h ro.k gro.ps are cutting by basaltic dikes representing the final stage o. the Ceno.o.c magmatism in the study area. We repo.t zirco. U-Pb ages o. 48.71 ± 0.74 Ma fo. the adakitic ro.ks, and 44.68 ± 0.84 Ma fo. the no.-adakitic type, suggesting that there is no.significant time gap during the transitio. fro. adakitic to.no.-adakitic magmatism. We evaluate the o.igin, magma pro.esses and tecto.ic setting o. the magmatism in the so.thern part o. the eastern Po.tides o.o.enic belt. o.r results have impo.tant bearing o. the late Meso.o.c-Ceno.o.c geo.ynamic evo.utio. o. the eastern Mediter- ranean regio..

Acid Ro.k Drainage (ARD) is a well-kno.n pro.lem related to.the mining industry due to.its hazardo.s enviro.mental effects. Metal-rich drainage and acid effluent transmitted fro. mine waste dumps co.pro.ise enviro.mental quality o. gro.ndwater and surface water systems destro.ing aquatic life and increasing human health risks. This study was aimed at assessing the acid and metal drainage po.ential fro. the Subriso.East Ro.k Dump (SERD) lo.ated in the Wassa East district o. Ghana o. gro.nd and surface water quality in the catchment using a system o. mo.ito.ing bo.eho.es, reference bo.eho.es and river samples. Water samples were co.lected fro. deep and shallo. mo.ito.ing bo.eho.es and surface water within the immediate enviro.s o. the SERD fro. August 2012 to.February 2013 fo. labo.ato.y and statistical analysis. Parameters analyzed include sulphate, alkalinity, Arsenic (As), Manganese (Mn), Iro. (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Co.per (Cu), Cadmium (Cd), Mercury (Hg), Aluminum (Al), Silver (Ag) and lead (Pb) and their co.centratio.s co.pared with Ghana Standards Autho.ity (GSA) GSB (2009) and WHo.(2017) standards. Results indicate that surface and gro.ndwater were no. impacted by the SERD po.sibly because there was no.generatio. o. acid o. metal-lo.ded effluent fro. the SERD into.the enviro.ment. Physico.hemical variables between mo.ito.ing bo.eho.es did no. differ significantly fro. co.ditio.s in the reference bo.eho.es. Similarly, co.pariso. o. upstream and do.nstream river co.ditio.s did no. yield any statistical significance (p > 0.05). Mn and Fe co.centratio.s were abo.e the WHo.(2017)/GSB (2009) standards. Heavy metal co.centratio.s in surface and gro.ndwater were belo. detectio. limits except manganese and iro. who.e co.centratio.s exceeded the reco.mended guidelines. No.significant enviro.mental impacts exist that co.ld be attributed to.the waste ro.k dump and may be as a result o. engineering designs and mechanisms which prevent acid generated water fro. reaching the extern
