Mutifactorial analysis of risk factors for reduced bone mineral density in patients with Crohn’s disease

AIM: To determine the prevalence of osteoporosis in a cohort of patients with Crohn’s disease (CD) and to identify the relative significance of risk factors for osteoporosis. METHODS: Two hundred and fifty-eight unselected patients (92 M, 166 F) with CD were studied. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured at the lumbar spine and hip by dual X-ray absorptiometry. Bone formation was assessed by measuring bone specific alkaline phosphatase (BSAp) and bone resorption by measuring urinary excretion of deoxypyridinoline (DpD) and N-telopeptide (NTX). RESULTS: Between 11.6%-13.6% patients were osteoporotic (T score pine and/or hip. NTX levels were significantly higher in the patients with osteoporosis (p p and DpD levels were not significantly different. Independent risk factors for osteoporosis at either the lumbar spine or hip were a low body mass index (p p p pine and hip respectively. CONCLUSION: Our results confirm that osteoporosis is common in patients with CD and suggest that increased bone resorption is the mechanism responsible for thebone loss. However, less than half of the reduction in BMD can be attributed to risk factors such as corticosteroid use and low BMI and therefore remains unexplained.

BACKGROUND Sarcopenia, i.e., muscle loss is now a well-recognized complication of cirrhosis and in cases of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease can contribute to accelerate liver fibrosis leading to cirrhosis. Hence, it is imperative to study interventions which targets to improve sarcopenia in *** To examine the relationship between interventions such nutritional supplementation, exercise, combined life style intervention, testosterone replacement and trans jugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt(TIpS) to improve muscle mass in *** We search pubMed, EMBASE and Cochrane between June-August 2018, without a limiting period and the types of articles(RCTs, clinical trial, comparative study)in adult patients with sarcopenia and cirrhosis. A Grid Middleware for Distributed Java Computing with MpI Binding and process Migration Supports

"Grid" computing has emerged as an important new research field. With years of efforts, grid researchers have successfully developed grid technologies including security solutions,resource management protocols, information query protocols, and data management services. However, as the ultimate goal of grid computing is to design an infrastructure which supports dynamic,cross-organizational resource sharing, there is a need of solutions for efficient and transparent task re-scheduling in the *** this research, a new grid middleware is proposed, called G-JavaMpI. This middleware adds the parallel computing capability of Java to the grid with the support of a Grid-enabled message passing interface (MpI) for inter-process communication between Java processes executed at different grid points. A special feature of the proposed G-JavaMpI is the support of Java process migration with post-migration message redirection. With these supports, it is possible to migrate executing Java process from site to site for continuous computation, if some site is scheduled to be turned down for system reconfiguration. Moreover, the proposed G-JavaMpI middleware is very portable since it requires no modification of underlying OS, Java virtual machine, and MpI package. preliminary performance tests have been conducted. The proposed mechanisms have shown good migration efficiency in a simulated grid environment.

Determining the influence of the physicochemical parameters of urban soils on As availability using chemometric methods：A preliminary study

Chemical Availability of Cd, pb and Zn in Anthropogenically polluted Soil: Assessing the Geochemical Reactivity and Oral Bioaccessibility

The most recent in vitro tests used to determine metal bioaccessiblility are generally time-consuming and expensive. This study aimed at determining potential relationships between the concentrations of metals extracted using single-extraction methods and the concentrations of bioaccessible metals assessed by a harmonised in vitro test, the Unified BARGE Method （UBM）. A total number of 27 soil samples were collected from kitchen gardens and lawns with various physicochemical parameters and contamination levels. Significant relationships were obtained between Cd, pb and Zn extracted in gastric and gastrointestinal phases and using single extractions. The best relationhips were established using acetic and citric acids for Cd, whereas for pb, citric acid and ethylenedi- aminetetraacetic acid （EDTA） were identified as the best extractants. These relationships were improved by means of a linear multiple regression with a downward stepwise procedure involving agronomic parameters （soil cation exchange capacity and assimilated p）. This method highlighted the fact that the cation exchange capacity and p contents in soils were the two main parameters that controlled the human bioaccessibility of Cd, pb and Zn in the gastric phase. Besides, the metal concentrations extracted with the acetic and citric acids correlated well with the metal concentrations in the gastric and gastrointestinal phases, suggesting that the bioaceessible metals were mainly in a soluble form, weakly bound to the organic matter and associated with the carbonates and the Fe and Mn oxides/hydroxides in soils.

Deterministic approaches for noncoherent communicationswith chaotic carriers

Two problems are proposed. The first one is the noise decontamination of chaotic carriers using a deterministic approach to reconstruct pseudo trajectories, the second is the design of communications schemes with chaotic carriers. After presenting our deterministic noise decontamination algorithm, conventional chaos shift keying (CSK) communication system is applied. The difference of Euclidean distance between noisy trajectory and decontaminated trajectory in phase space could be utilized to non-coherently detect the sent symbol simply and effectively. It is shown that this detection method can achieve the bit error rate performance comparable to other non-coherent systems.

Impact of a phosphate Amendment on the Environmental Availability and phytoavailability of Cd and pb in Moderately and Highly Carbonated Kitchen Garden Soils

The behaviour of metals mainly depends on soil p H, carbonate contents and contamination level, which should be considered for the management of contaminated soils. In this study, kitchen garden topsoils(0–25 cm) were sampled from the area around three smelters in France, with different Cd and pb contamination levels. Effect of a phosphate amendment(a mixture of diammonium phosphate and hydroxyapatite) on the environmental availability and phytoavailability of Cd and pb was evaluated by different chemical extractions and cultivating lettuce(Lactuca sativa L.), respectively. Changes in the distribution of Cd and pb were found in most contaminated soils after phosphate amendment. An increase of Cd and pb in the residual phase was highlighted in almost all carbonated contaminated soils, whereas a decrease of pb in the exchangeable, water and acid-soluble phase was observed in most contaminated soils with the lowest carbonate contents. The concentrations of extractable Cd and pb using calcium chloride and acetic and citric acids generally decreased after the soil amendment. Lettuces grown on amended soils were acceptable for human consumption as regard to pb concentration. In contrast, some lettuces were unacceptable for human consumption, since the concentrations of Cd in the leaves were higher than the European legislation limit. Surprisingly, in carbonated soils with very low concentration of Cd, the Cd concentrations in lettuce reached up to the European legislation limit, making the lettuce unacceptable for human *** study highlighted the fact that the total metal concentration in soils does not always allow to predict the metal accumulation in the edible parts of vegetables in order to make a judgement about their acceptability or unacceptability for human consumption.
