Oncogenic induction of cellular high CpG methylation by Epstein-Barr Barr virus in malignant epithelial cells

Epstein-Barr virus(EBV)is a well-known human herpesvirus associated with virtually all nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)and^10%of gastric cancer(GC)*** evidence shows that acquired genetic and epigenetic alterations lead to the initiation and progression of NPC and ***,even deep whole exome sequencing studies showed a relatively low frequency of gene mutations in NPC and EBV-associated GC(EBVa GC),suggesting a predominant role of epigenetic abnormities,especially promoter Cp G methylation,in the pathogenesis of NPC and EBVa *** frequencies of promoter methylation of tumor suppressor genes(TSGs)have been frequently reported in NPC and EBVa GC,with several EBV-induced methylated TSGs *** characterization of the epigenomes(genome-wide Cp G methylation profile—methylome)of NPC and EBVa GC shows that these EBV-associated tumors display a unique high Cp G methylation epigenotype with more extensive gene methylation accumulation,indicating that EBV acts as a direct epigenetic driver for these ***,oncogenic modulation of cellular Cp G methylation machinery,such as DNA methyltransferases(DNMTs),by EBV-encoded viral proteins accounts for the EBV-induced high Cp G methylation epigenotype in NPC and EBVa ***,uncovering the EBV-associated unique epigenotype of NPC and EBVa GC would provide new insight into the molecular pathogenesis of these unique EBVassociated tumors and further help to develop pharmacologic strategies targeting cellular methylation machinery in these malignancies.

Effect of oral erythromycin on gastric and small bowel transit time of capsule endoscopy

AIM： To determine the effect of oral erythromycin on gastric and small bowel transit time of capsule endoscopy. METHODS： Consecutive patients who underwent capsule endoscopy during the 16-mo study period were either given 250 mg oral erythromycin, 1 h prior to swallowing the capsule endoscope or nothing. The gastric and small bowel transit time, and the small bowel image quality were compared. RESUlTS： Twenty-four patients received oral erythromycin whereas 14 patients were not given any prokinetic agent. Patients who received erythromycin had a significantly lower gastric transit time than control （16 min vs70 min, P= 0.005）, whereas the small bowel transit time was comparable between the two groups （227 rain vs 183 min, P= 0.18）. Incomplete small bowel examination was found in three patients of the control group and in one patient of the erythromycin group. There was no significant difference in the overall quality of small bowel images between the two groups. A marked reduction in gastric transit time was noted in two patients who had repeat capsule endoscopy after oral erythromycin. CONClUSION： Use of oral erythromycin significantly reduces the gastric transit time of capsule endoscopy.

The present study focuses on the relationship of hardness with grain size for commercially pure titanium （CpTi） and ultra fine grained titanium （UFG-Ti） produced by equal channel angular process （ECAP） of Cp-Ti）.Vickers and knoop indentations of UFG-Ti at different loads was ～2.5 times harder than those of *** diffraction （XRD） analysis showed peak broadening in UFG-Ti due to reduced grain size and micro-lattice *** electron microscopy （SEM） revealed that ECAP had reduced the grain size of Cp-Ti by ～10 *** statistics showed UFG-Ti with lower dispersion in hardness values compare to Cp-Ti indicating a more uniform microstructure.

Influence of lanthanum level and interactions with nitrogen source on early development of Juglans nigra

Rare earth elements have been used for 30 years in Chinese agriculture to improve growth and yield. Numerous scientific studies have shown improvements in physiology, mineral nutrition, and growth, though deleterious effects may also occur. Very few studies have been performed on woody species. We exponentially fertilized one-year old black walnut （Juglans nigra l.） seedlings with 0, 0.1, 1, 10, or 100 mg lanthanum （la） and 800 mg nitrogen （N） as NaNO3, （NH4）2SO4, NH4NO3, or no N. One month following final fertilization, growth, mineral nutrition, photosynthesis, chlorophyll, and nitrate reductase activity were assessed. Plants fertilized with the highest level of la had reduced fine root growth, concentrations of magnesium, calcium, nickel, and phosphorus, photosynthesis levels, and chlorophyll a content. Foliar la concentration showed an interaction effect, with three to four times greater concentration in plants fed at 100 mg la to those given 10 mg la for （NH4）2SO4 and NHaNO3 treatments. The results suggested no beneficial effects of la addition at levels used in this study and interactions between N source and la levels did not have an important impact on the growth, mineral nutrition, or physiology of black walnut seedlings.

Eelgrass and Macroalgae loss in an Oregon Estuary: Consequences for Ocean Acidification and Hypoxia

Estuarine macrophytes are proposed to influence ocean acidification and hypoxia(OAH)via the uptake(release)of inorganic carbon(oxygen)during *** extent to which macrophytes mitigate OAH in estuaries depends on the interaction between variable environmental conditions and macrophyte production over space and *** explore these complexities in detail,we considered the potential causes and consequences of intertidal eelgrass and macroalgae declines in a *** Northwest *** compiled and analyzed a record of eelgrass(Zostera marina)and ulvoid macroalgae along with a broad suite of environmental conditions over 15 years(2004 to 2019)at 3 sites along an estuarine gradient in South Slough,*** analysis showed that declining macrophyte biomass coincided with increasing temperature(water and air),watershed disturbance,and possibly *** with macrophyte loss,diel dissolved oxygen(DO)and pH variability were reduced,indicating an influence of macrophytes on water quality at an ecosystem *** loss was correlated with declining gross production and respiration,which altered the diel dynamics of pH,DO,and partial pressure of carbon dioxide at some *** certain conditions,there was an association between eelgrass biomass and changes in DO and pH of more than 2 mg/l and 0.3 units,*** found that daytime amelioration of low DO and pH was possible at certain locations when macrophyte biomass(especially eelgrass)was ***,our analyses suggested that the efficacy of macrophyte mitigation of OAH depends on macrophyte abundance and the volume and residence time of overlying water.

Fate and transport of theβ-adrenergic agonist ractopamine hydrochloride in soil–water systems

The feed additive ractopamine hydrochloride was fortified at four concentrations into batch vials containing soils that differed in both biological activity and organic matter（OM）.Sampling of the liquid layer for 14 days demonstrated that ractopamine rapidly dissipated from the liquid layer. less than 20% of the fortified dose remained in the liquid layer after 4 hr,and recoveries of dosed ractopamine ranged from 8 to 18% in the liquid layer at 336 hr. Sorption to soil was the major fate for ractopamine in soil：water systems, i.e., 42%–51% of the dose at14 days. The major portion of the sorbed fraction was comprised of non-extractables; a smaller fraction of the sorbed dose was extracted into water and acetone, portions which would be potentially mobile in the environment. Partitioning coefficients for all soils suggested strong sorption of ractopamine to soil which is governed by hydrophobic interactions and cation exchange complexes within the soil OM. Ractopamine degradation was observed, but to mostly non-polar compounds which had a higher potential than ractopamine to sorb to soil. The formation of volatiles was also suggested. Therefore, despite rapid and extensive soil sorption,these studies indicated a portion of ractopamine, present in manures used to fertilize soils,may be mobile in the environment via water-borne events.
