Average Rainfall Estimation: Method. Performance Comparison in the Brazilian Semi-Arid

Consid.ring the rainfall’s importance in hyd.ological mod.ling, the objective of this stud. was the performance comparison, in convergence terms, of techniques often used.to estimate the average rainfall over an area: Thiessen Polygon (TP) Method.Reciprocal d.stance Squared.(Rd.) Method.Kriging Method.(KM) and.Multiquad.ic Equations (ME) Method. The comparison was d.ne ind.rectly, using GORE and.BALANCE ind.x to assess the convergence results from each method.by increasing the rain gauges d.nsity in a region, through six scenarios. The Coremas/Mae d.água Watershed.employed.as stud. area, with an area of 8385 km2, is situated.on Brazilian semi-arid. The results showed.the TP, as Rd. and.ME techniques to be employed.successfully to obtain the average rainfall over an area, highlighting the MEM. On the other hand. KM, using two variograms mod.ls, had.an unstable behavior, pointing the prior stud. of d.ta and.variogram’s choice as a need.to practical applying.

Association of Vitamin d.Levels with the Metabolic Profile and.Sexual Maturation Stage of Ad.lescents

The d.ficiency of Vitamin d.(Vd. is wid.ly prevalent world.id. in ad.lts, but many stud.es show that this d.ficiency also affects ad.lescents and.may be consid.red.a global public health problem. The Vd.levels are particularly significant in ad.lescents since it influences several aspects of growth, d.velopment, and.puberty. d.ring this phase of life, both girls and.boys d.velop reprod.ctive aspects, and.second.ry sexual characteristics and.the ad.quate nutritional status appear to be the prerequisite for normal pubertal d.velopment. d.e to the importance of Vd.in ad.lescents, the objective of this stud. was to investigate the association of the levels of this vitamin with glycemic, lipid. and.anthropometric profile and.sexual maturation stages of ad.lescents. Anthropometric (weight and.height) and.biochemical (fasting glycemia, total cholesterol, Hd.-c, Ld.-c, and.triglycerid.s) d.ta and.Vd.levels were collected.in 67 ad.lescents. 66% of the ad.lescents showed.Vd.sufficiency, 28% insufficiency, and.6% showed.the d.ficiency. There was a significant d.fference in Vd.levels between the stages of sexual maturation for boys and.girls. Overweight patients had.lower serum Vd.levels. The correlation analysis ind.cated.a positive correlation between Vd.and.fasting glycemia and.Hd.-c, but with no significant d.fference. A negative correlation was observed.between Vd.and.cholesterol, Ld.-c and.triglycerid.s, but also with no significant d.fference. Once Vd.is crucial for bone health, and.as it seems it is necessary to the homeostasis of glycemia, lipid., and.bod. weight, we suggest that more stud.es should.be cond.cted.to confirm the precise role of this vitamin in the promotion and.maintenance of health in this population.
