Injuries to the spinal cord result in permanent disabilities that limit daily life *** main reasons for these poor outcomes are the limited regenerative capacity of central neurons and the inhibitory milieu that is established upon traumatic *** decades of research,there is still no efficient treatment for spinal cord *** strategies are tested in preclinical studies that focus on ameliorating the functional outcomes after spinal cord *** these,molecular compounds are currently being used for neurological recovery,with promising *** molecules target the axon collapsed growth cone,the inhibitory microenvironment,the survival of neurons and glial cells,and the re-establishment of lost *** this review we focused on molecules that are being used,either in preclinical or clinical studies,to treat spinal cord injuries,such as drugs,growth and neurotrophic factors,enzymes,and *** mechanisms of action of these molecules are discussed,considering traumatic spinal cord injury in rodents and humans.

Trauma to the peripheral nervous system often results in loss of motor and sensory functions of the affected area of the body,leading to a series of functional impairments(Allodi et al.,2012).Injuries to peripheral nerves initiate a series of complex events,known as Wallerian degeneration,which allows the injured axons to regenerate and reinnervate their targets(Allodi et al.,2012).Damage to a nerve induces multiple alterations,which include:axonal degeneration,breakdown of myelin sheath,Schwann cells(SC)proliferation and conversion to a repair phenotype which express cytokines and chemokines that allow the infiltration and activation of macrophages(Mietto et al.,2015;Jessen and Mirsky,2016).

In spite of advances in surgical care and rehabilitation, the consequences of spinal cord injury （SCI） are still challenging. Several experimental therapeutic strategies have been studied in the SCI field, and recent advances have led to the development of therapies that may act on the inhibitory microenvironment. Assorted lineages of stem cells are considered a good treatment for SCI. This study investigated the effect of systemic transplantation of mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） in a compressive SCI model. Here we present results of the intraperitoneal route, which has not been used previously for MSC administration after compressive SCI. We used adult female C57BL/6 mice that underwent laminectomy at the T9 level, followed by spinal cord compression for 1 minute with a 30-g vascular clip. The animals were divided into five groups： sham （anesthesia and laminectomy but without compression injury induction）, MSC i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 8×10^5 MSCs in 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, MSC i.v. （intravenous injection of 8 × 10^5 MSCs in 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.p. （intraperitoneal injection of 500μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）, DMEM i.v. （intravenous injection of 500 μL of DMEM at 7 days after SCI）. The effects of MSCs transplantation in white matter sparing were analyzed by luxol fast blue staining. The number of preserved fibers was counted in semithin sections stained with toluidine blue and the presence of trophic factors was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. In addition, we analyzed the locomotor performance with Basso Mouse Scale and Global Mobility Test. Our results showed white matter preservation and a larger number of preserved fibers in the MSC groups than in the DMEM groups. Furthermore, the MSC groups had higher levels of trophic factors （brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, neurotrophin-3 and neurotrophin-4） in the spinal cord and improved locomotor performance. Anthropogenic climate forcing will cause the global mean sea level to rise over the 21st ***,regional sea level is expected to vary across ocean basins,superimposed by the influence of natural internal climate ***,we address the detection of dynamic sea level(DSL)changes by combining the perspectives of a single and a multimodel ensemble approach(the 50-member CanESM5 and a 27-model ensemble,respectively,all retrieved from the CMIP6 archive),under three CMIP6 projected scenarios:SSP1-2.6,SSP3-7.0 and *** ensemble analysis takes into account four key metrics:signal(S),noise(N),S/N ratio,and time of emergence(ToE).The results from both sets of ensembles agree in the fact that regions with higher S/N(associated with smaller uncertainties)also reflect earlier *** DSL signal is projected to emerge in the Southern Ocean,Southeast Pacific,Northwest Atlantic,and the *** common for both sets of ensemble simulations show that while S progressively increases with increased projected emissions,N,in turn,does not vary substantially among the SSPs,suggesting that uncertainty arising from internal climate variability has little dependence on changes in the magnitude of external *** changes are greater and quite similar for the scenarios SSP3-7.0 and SSP5-8.5 and considerably smaller for the SSP1-2.6,highlighting the importance of public policies towards lower emission scenarios and of keeping emissions below a certain threshold.

Although thermoplastic starch(TPS)is biodegradable,its low mechanical resistance limits its wide *** bagasse(SB)fibers can be used as reinforcement in TPS matrix composites,but the influence of fiber size on the properties of the composite is still *** this study,TPS composites reinforced with SB short fibers of four sizes were processed and characterized in order to analyze the influence of fiber size on the mechanical properties of the TPS/SB *** was observed that the interaction between fiber and matrix was good and optimized when the fibers are sifted in sieves between 30 and 50 mesh,obtaining fibers with average length of 1569±640μm and average diameter of 646±166μ*** these composites,increases of more than 660%in the modulus and more than 100%in the maximum tension were verified when compared to the pure TPS.

The liver is a complex organ that performs several functions to maintain *** functions are modulated by calcium,a second messenger that regulates several intracellular *** hepatocytes and cholangiocytes,which are the epithelial cell types in the liver,inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate(InsP3)receptors(ITPR)are the only intracellular calcium release *** isoforms of the ITPR have been described,named type 1,type 2 and type *** ITPR isoforms are differentially expressed in liver cells where they regulate distinct physiological *** in the expression level of these receptors correlate with several liver diseases and hepatic *** this review,we highlight how the expression level,modulation,and localization of ITPR isoforms in hepatocytes and cholangiocytes play a role in hepatic homeostasis and liver pathology.

This work presents a critical approach to Passage to India, a film directed by David Lean (1984), based on the novel written by Edward Morgan Foster in 1924, focusing attention on micro representations of Indian society under British imperial power. To structure the work, the ideas of two prominent thinkers whose critical approaches are grounded on the concept of Representation and its implication in relation to perceptions of the “Other” were we selected as theoretical framework, namely Herrieta Lidchi and Stuart Hall. In this way, the work aims at highlighting the power of visual images, represented by the film, in the construction of ethnocentric images created by Imperial power(s) and their importance for the development of critical thinking in relation to residual marks of such representations in post-colonial era.
