Deep learning has been increasingly popular in omics data *** works incorporating variable selection into deep learning have greatly enhanced the model’s ***,because deep learning desires a large sample size,the existing methods may result in uncertain findings when the dataset has a small sample size,commonly seen in omics data *** the explosion and availability of omics data from multiple populations/studies,the existing methods naively pool them into one dataset to enhance the sample size while ignoring that variable structures can differ across datasets,which might lead to inaccurate variable selection *** propose a penalized integrative deep neural network(PIN)to simultaneously select important variables from multiple *** directly aggregates multiple datasets as input and considers both homogeneity and heterogeneity situations among multiple datasets in an integrative analysis *** from extensive simulation studies and applications of PIN to gene expression datasets from elders with different cognitive statuses or ovarian cancer patients at different stages demonstrate that PIN outperforms existing methods with considerably improved performance among multiple *** source code is freely available on Github(rucliyang/PINFunc).We speculate that the proposed PIN method will promote the identification of disease-related important variables based on multiple studies/datasets from diverse origins.

Objective The Guanzhong Plain of Shaanxi Province is a severely afflicted hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS)epidemic area,while HFRS prevalence has decreased in most epidemic areas in *** information is available regarding the leading fine-scale influencing factors in this highly HFRSconcentrated area and the roles of natural environmental and socioeconomic *** investigate this,two regions in the Guanzhong Plain,that is,the Chang’an District and Hu County,with similar geographical environments,different levels of economic development,and high epidemic prevalence,were chosen as representative areas of the HFRS *** Maximum entropy models were constructed based on HFRS cases and fine-scale influencing factors,including meteorological,natural environmental,and socioeconomic factors,from 2014 to *** More than 95% of the HFRS cases in the study area were located in the northern plains,which has an altitude of less than 800 m,with topography contributed 84.1% of the impact on the spatial differentiation of the HFRS *** the northern plains,precipitation and population density jointly affected the spatial differentiation of the HFRS epidemic,with contribution rates of 60.7% and 28.0%,*** comparing the influencing factors of the northern plains of Chang’an District and Hu County,we found that precipitation and the normalized difference vegetation index(NDVI)dominated the HFRS epidemic in the relatively developed Chang’an District,while land-use type,temperature,precipitation and population density dominated the HFRS epidemic in the relatively undeveloped Hu *** Topography was the primary key factor for HFRS prevalence in the Chang’an District and Hu County,and the spatial differentiation of HFRS was dominated by precipitation and population density in the northern *** with the influencing factors of the relatively developed Chang’an District,the developing Hu County was more affected

The self-diffusion problem of Brownian particles under the constraint of quasi-one-dimensional(q1 D) channel has raised wide *** hydrodynamic interaction(HI) plays an important role in many practical problems and two-body interactions remain dominant under q1D *** measure the diffusion coefficient of individual ellipsoid when two ellipsoidal particles are close to each other by video-microscopy ***, we obtain the numerical simulation results of diffusion coefficient using finite element *** find that the self-diffusion coefficient of the ellipsoid decreases exponentially with the decrease of their mutual distance X when X < X0, where X0 is the maximum distance of the ellipsoids to maintain their mutual influence, X0 and the variation rate are related to the aspect ratio p = a/*** mean squared displacement(MSD) of the ellipsoids indicates that the self-diffusion appears as a crossover region, in which the diffusion coefficient increases as the time increases in the intermediate time regime, which is proven to be caused by the spatial variations affected by the hydrodynamic *** findings indicate that hydrodynamic interaction can significantly affect the self-diffusion behavior of adjacent particles and has important implications to the research of microfluidic problems in blood vessels and bones, drug delivery, and lab-on-chip.

In order to improve the performance of plaster molds for investment casting,a diverse content of glass fiber and polypropylene(PP)fiber was incorporated into the slurry for the preparation of a fiber-reinforced *** green and fired bending strengths,thermal expansion properties,permeability,and thermal shock resistance of the mold were examined,and the scanning electron microscope(SEM)with energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)was applied for the observation of fracture *** appropriate content,the introduction of glass fiber was proved to increase the green bending strength and fired bending strength,restrain the thermal expansion and improve the thermal shock resistance of the mold,while the polypropylene fiber added was able to raise the green bending strength and the permeability,reduce the thermal expansion and heighten the thermal shock resistance as well,though the fired bending strength would be weakened *** distributed fibers were capable of enhancing the mechanical properties of the matrix,but agglomerations and bundles of fibers resulting from excessive addition had a negative ***,it was also manifested that micropores left by ablative polypropylene fibers could improve the permeability and reduce the thermal expansion of the mold,and the fired bending strength would be decreased slightly by the deterioration of continuous *** different ratios of hybrid fiber were employed in plaster molds,which can meet altered requirement of *** samples modified with hybrid fiber possessed lower thermal deformation,higher air permeability,and better resistance of thermal shock,while the mechanical strength was equal to the fiber free sample or slightly increased.

The influence of taxation on the economy and society is everywhere. Given the fact that CO_(2) emission is closely connected with human activities, the question naturally arises whether the tax burden affects the carbon emissions. To address this issue, based on the data of 21 OECD countries over the period from 1991–2014, we use the ratio of tax revenue to GDP as a proxy of the tax burden and employ a panel quantile model with the non-additive fixed effects for analysis. The results suggest that the impact of the tax burden on carbon emissions is heterogeneous across countries based on the level of carbon emissions. Moreover, we find a stable U-shaped relationship between the tax burden and carbon emissions whether for countries with a high or low level of carbon emissions. Our findings suggest that moderate taxes could help reduce carbon emissions, but the effect of excessive taxation is the opposite.
