Nature and timing of a prehistoric giant landslide on the eastern margin of the Tibetan Plateau

Studying the characteristics of a prehistoric giant landslide and ascertaining its relationship with palaeo-seismic events could provide useful information on the role of regional tectonic activities in hillslope ***,a giant palaeoseismic landslide(GPSL),namely,the Luanshibao(LSB)landslide,located on the eastern margin of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,was investigated to ascertain its characteristics and occurrence *** relationship between occurrence age and palaeoseismic episodes was also discussed by using 14 C dating on the adjacent active faults,including the regional Yidun-Litang-Dewu(YD-LT-DW)fault zone,which crossed the LSB *** dating of multiple samples acquired from palaeo-seismic trenches revealed that at least 5 palaeo-seismic episodes had occurred in the vicinity of the LSB landslide over the last 5000 *** occurrence age of the LSB landslide(3635±387 a BP)coincides with palaeo-seismic episode I,and the LSB landslide is convincingly inferred to have been triggered during episode I,which reached a seismic intensity(Chinese scale)of at least degree VII near the LSB landslide during *** timing of a second reactivation phase coincides with palaeo-seismic episode IV,which occurred at 2100-2200 a *** study could provide reference for studying the regional palaeoseismic activities and palaeo landslide evolution near the Litang area.

Solar thermal swing adsorption on porous carbon monoliths for high-performance CO_(2)capture

Utilizing solar energy for sorbent regeneration during the CO_(2)swing adsorption process could potentially reduce CO_(2)capture *** study describes a new technique—solar thermal swing adsorption(STSA)for CO_(2)capture based on application of intermittent illumination onto porous carbon monolith(PCM)sorbents during the CO_(2)capture *** allows CO_(2)to be selectively adsorbed on the sorbents during the light-off periods and thereafter released during the light-on periods due to the solar thermal *** freestanding and mechanically strong PCMs have rich ultramicropores with narrow pore size distributions,displaying relatively high CO_(2)adsorption capacity and high CO_(2)/N_(2) *** the high CO_(2)capture performance,high solar thermal conversion efficiency,and high thermal conductivity,the PCM sorbents could achieve high CO_(2)capture rate of up to 0.226 kg·kgcarbon^(-1)·h^(-1)from a gas mixture of 20 vol.%CO_(2)/80 vol.%N_(2) under STSA conditions with a light intensity of 1000 W·m^(-2).In addition,the combination of STSA with the conventional vacuum swing adsorption technique further increases the CO_(2)working capacity.

Intravesical drug delivery(IDD),as a noninvasive,local pathway of administration,has great clinical significance for bladder diseases,especially bladder *** the many advantages of IDD such as enhanced focal drug exposure and avoidance of systemic adverse drug reactions,the effectiveness of drug delivery is greatly challenged by the physiological barriers of the *** this review,the routes and barriers encountered in IDD are first discussed,and attention is paid to the potential internal/mucosal retention and absorption-transport mechanisms of *** this basis,the avoidance,overcoming and utilization of the"three barriers"is further emphasized,and current design and fabrication strategies for intravesical drug delivery systems(IDDSs)are described mainly from the perspectives of constructing drug reservoirs,enhancing permeability and targeting,with the hope of providing systematic understanding and inspirations for the research of novel IDDSs and their treatment of bladder diseases.

Effects of moss-dominated biocrusts on soil detachment by overland flow in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area of China

Biological soil crusts(biocrusts)are important landscape components that exist in various climates and *** roles of biocrusts in numerous soil processes have been predominantly recognized in many dryland regions ***,little is known about their effects on soil detachment process by overland flow,especially in humid *** study quantified the effects of moss-dominated biocrusts on soil detachment capacity(Dc)and soil erosion resistance to flowing water in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area which holds a subtropical humid *** factors driving soil detachment variation and their influencing mechanism were analyzed and *** designed five levels of coverage treatments(1%–20%,20%–40%,40%–60%,60%–80%,and 80%–100%)and a nearby bare land as control in a mossdominated *** soil samples were taken and subjected to water flow scouring in a hydraulic flume under six shear stresses ranging from 4.89 to 17.99 *** results indicated that mean Dc of mosscovered soil varied from 0.008 to 0.081 kg m^-2 s^-1,which was 1.9 to 21.0 times lower than that of bare soil(0.160 kg m^-2 s^-1).Rill erodibility(Kr)of mosscovered soil ranged from 0.0095 to 0.0009 s m^-1,which was 2 to 20 times lower than that of bare soil(0.0187 s m^-1).Both relative soil detachment rate and Kr showed an exponential decay with increasing moss coverage,whereas the critical shear stress(τc)for different moss coverage levels did not differ *** coverage,soil cohesion,and sand content were key factors affecting Dc,while moss coverage and soil bulk density were key factors affecting Kr.A power function of flow shear stress,soil cohesion,and moss coverage fitted well to estimate Dc(NSE=0.947).Our findings implied that biocrusts prevented soil detachment directly by their physical cover and indirectly by soil properties *** could be rehabilitated as a promising soil conservation measure during ecological recovery to enhance so

Data-driven Wasserstein distributionally robust chance-constrained optimization for crude oil scheduling under uncertainty

Crude oil scheduling optimization is an effective method to enhance the economic benefits of oil *** uncertainties,including uncertain demands of crude distillation units(CDUs),might make the production plans made by the traditional deterministic optimization models infeasible.A data-driven Wasserstein distributionally robust chance-constrained(WDRCC)optimization approach is proposed in this paper to deal with demand uncertainty in crude oil ***,a new deterministic crude oil scheduling optimization model is developed as the basis of this *** Wasserstein distance is then used to build ambiguity sets from historical data to describe the possible realizations of probability distributions of uncertain demands.A cross-validation method is advanced to choose suitable radii for these ambiguity *** deterministic model is reformulated as a WDRCC optimization model for crude oil scheduling to guarantee the demand constraints hold with a desired high probability even in the worst situation in ambiguity *** proposed WDRCC model is transferred into an equivalent conditional value-at-risk representation and further derived as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming *** case studies from a real-world refinery are conducted to show the effectiveness of the proposed ***-of-sample tests demonstrate that the solution of the WDRCC model is more robust than those of the deterministic model and the chance-constrained model.

The model reduction problem is studied in this work for the switched genetic regulatory networks(GRNs) with timevarying delays. The attention is focused on constructing a reduced-order model to approximate the considered high-order GRNs under that the switching signal is subject to some certain constraints, such that the error system between the original system and the reduced-order one is exponentially stable with a weighted H∞ performance. By utilizing the bounding technique as well as the dwell time method, the stability conditions and the weighted H performance are established for the error system. Then, the solvability conditions for the reduced-order models for the GRNs are also established by using the projection method. Finally,numerical simulation is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Boosting CO_(2) electroreduction performance over fullerene-modified MOF-545-Co promoted by π –π interaction

Metal-organic frameworks(MOFs) have showed high promise in CO_(2)-electroreduction, yet their generally insufficient conductivity or low electron-transfer efficiency have largely restricted the wide-spread applications. Herein, fullerene molecules(i.e., C60and C70) have been successfully introduced into the pore-channels of a Co-porphyrin based MOF through a facile strategy. Thus-obtained hybrid materials present higher electron-transfer ability, enhanced CO_(2)adsorption-enthalpy and CO_(2)electroreduction activity. Notably, the charge transfer resistance(Rct) of C60@MOF-545-Co is almost 5 times lower of than that of MOF-545-Co, as well as 1.5 times increased for the CO_(2)adsorption enthalpy. As expect, the FECO of C60@MOF-545-Co(97.0%) is largely higher than MOF-545-Co(70.2%), C60@MOF-545(19.4%), C60(11.5%)and physical mixture(70.3%) and presented as one of the best CO_(2)electroreduction catalysts reported in H-cell system. The facile strategy would give rise to new insight into the exploration of powerful MOFbased hybrid materials in high-efficiency CO_(2)electroreduction.

Identify Congested Links Based on Enlarged State Space

When paths share a common congested link, they will all suffer from a performance degradation. Boolean tomography exploits these performance-level correlations between different paths to identify the congested links. It is clear that the congestion of a path will be distinctly intensive when it traverses multiple congested links. We adopt an enlarged state space model to mirror different congestion levels and employ a system of integer equations, instead of Boolean equations, to describe relationships between the path states and the link states. We recast the problem of identifying congested links into a constraint optimization problem, including Boolean tomography as a special case. For a logical tree, we propose an up-to-bottom algorithm and prove that it always achieves a solution to the problem. Compared with existing algorithms, the simulation results show that our proposed algorithm achieves a higher detection rate while keeping a low false positive rate.
