Synthesis, characterization and radioluminescence properties of erbium-doped yttria phosphors

Radioluminescence(RL)behaviour of erbium-doped yttria nanoparticles(Y2O_(3):Er^(3+)NPs)which were produced by sol-gel method was reported for future scintillator *** with dopant rates of 1 at%,5 at%,10 at%and 20 at%Er were produced and calcined at 800℃,and effect of increased calcination temperature(1100℃)on the RL behaviour was also reported.X-ray diffraction(XRD)results showed that all phosphors had the cubic Y2O_(3) bixbyite-type *** lattice parameters,crystallite sizes(CS),and lattice strain values were calculated by Cohen-Wagner(C-W)and Williamson-Hall(W-H)methods,***,the optimum solubility value of the Er^(3+)dopant ion in the Y2O_(3) host lattice was calculated to be approximately 4 at%according to Vegard’s law,which was experimentally obtained from the 5 at%Er^(3+)ion containing *** peak shifts in XRD patterns and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)analyses confirmed that Er^(3+)dopant ions were successfully incorporated into the Y2O_(3) host ***-resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM)results verified the average CS values and agglomerated NPs morphologies were *** electron microscopy(SEM)results showed the neck formation between the particles due to increased calcination *** a result of the RL measurements under a Cu KαX-ray radiation(wavelength,λ=0.154 nm)source with 50 kV and 10 mA beam current,it was determined that the highest RL emission belonged to 5 at%Er doped *** the RL emission spectrum,the emission peaks were observed in the wavelength ranges of 510-575 nm(2H11/2,4S3/2-4I15/2;green emission)and 645-690 nm(4F9/2-4I15/2;red emission).The emission peaks at 581,583,587,593,601,611 and 632 nm wavelengths were also *** was found that both dopant rate and calcination temperature affected the RL emission *** color shifted from red to green with increasing calcination temperature which was attributed to the increased crystallinit

Occurrence and Distribution of Antifouling Biocide Diuron along the Coastal Areas of Zanzibar Island

Diuron (N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N,N-dimethylurea) is one among the booster biocides substituted tributyltin as an antifouling agent. It has continued to be used ever since, though little is known about their levels in the maritime setting of Zanzibar. This paper details the occurrence and distribution of diuron around the coastline of Zanzibar Island. The reported concentrations of diuron in water ranged from Below Detection Limit to 1321.67 ± 52.3 ng/L at Bwawani. Majority of the sites showed levels above Environmental Risk Limit of 430 ng/L as proposed by the Dutch Authorities. The findings suggest the contamination is elevated especial in Harbor, Bwawani, Chapwani and even at Marine Protected Areas such Mnemba Island where the value of 620.33 ± 5.70 ng/L was recorded. The main possible sources of the contamination are cargo shipping, passenger speedboats, fishing, and tourism activities taking places in these areas. Therefore, future studies on the antifouling biocide diuron particularly on long term monitoring, chronic exposure, risk assessment, organisms’ responses and pollution models will add special value towards better understanding of the mechanisms and sustainable marine ecosystem health.

Nickel accumulation and its effect on biomass,protein content and antioxidative enzymes in roots and leaves of watercress(Nasturtium officinale ***.)

In order to understand its response towards nickel stress, watercress （Nasturtium officinale R. Br.） was exposed to nickel （1-25 mg/L） for 1, 3, 5 and 7 days. The accumulation and translocation of nickel were determined and the influence of nickel on biomass, protein content and enzymatic antioxidants was examined for both roots and leaves. It was determined that N. o fficinale could accumulate appreciable amounts of Ni in both roots and leaves. Nickel accumulated particularly in the roots of plants. Biomass increased at low nickel concentrations but certain measurable change was not found at high concentrations. Under stress conditions the antioxidant enzymes were up-regulated compared to control. An increase in protein content and enzyme activities was observed at moderate exposure conditions followed by a decline at both roots and leaves. The maximum enzyme activities were observed at different exposure conditions. Our results showed that N. officinale had the capacity to overcome nickel-induced stress especially at moderate nickel exposure. Therefore, N. officinale may be used as a phytoremediator in moderately polluted aquatic ecosystems.

Toxicity, inheritance and biochemistry of clofentezine resistance in Tetranychus urticae

This study evaluates the toxicological and biochemical response of two-spotted spider mites to clofentezine selection pressure. The mortality rate of Tetranychus urticae in adult females depends on increased clofentezine concentration and clofentezine was found to be effective against females. The resistance rate of the CUM strain selected 12 times once per generation with clofentezine was increased from 1.28- to 105.27-fold. The interaction of some synergists with clofentezine was analyzed in the clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain. Synergists had no effect on clofentezine toxicity. The clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain showed resistance against chlorpyrifos, abamectin, propargite, fenpyroximate and amitraz. The modes of inheritance of resistance to clofentezine were found to be incompletely dominant and not sex-linked. Esterase enzyme activity was detected both by gel electrophoresis and microplate reader methods, while glutathione S-transferase （GST） and monooxygenase （P450） activity were detected only by the microplate reader method. During the selection period the esterase, the GST and the P450 enzymes activities were raised from 7.69, 7.09 and 0.003 3 to 18.40, 13.11 and 0.003 7 milli-optical density/rain/rag proteins, respectively. An increase was observed in the band intensity of esterases and esterase enzymes may play a role in clofentezine resistance in T. urticae.

Effect of acupressure on procedural pain before heel lancing in neonates

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of acupressure applied to UB60 and K3 acupuncture points in order to relieve the procedural pain caused by heel lancing blood sampling process in the term ***:The data were collected by using the Information Form and the Neonatal Infant Pain *** applied for 3 min before heel lancing blood sampling in the newborns in the experimental group(n=31).No intervention was applied to newborns in the control group(n=32).RESULTS:A significant difference was found between mean scores of the newborns in the control and acupressure group in favor of the acupressure group in terms of heart rate during and after the procedure,oxygen saturation before,during and after the procedure,duration of crying during and after the procedure(P<0.05).It was found that there was a significant difference between groups in terms of Neonatal Infant Pain Scale mean scores during(P=0.001)and after the procedure(P<0.05),and the difference was found to be in favor of the acupressure ***:As a result,acupressure was found to be an effective method in relieving pain caused by heel lancing blood sampling in newborns.

Mechanical properties of vanadium-alloyed austempered ductile iron for crankshaft applications

This study focused on the development of austempered ductile iron(ADI)with desirable combination of mechanical properties for crankshaft applications by the combined effect of vanadium(V)alloying and an optimized heat treatment *** produced unalloyed GGG60,0.15%V-alloyed GGG60(V-15),and 0.30%V-alloyed GGG60 samples were subjected to austenitizing at 900℃for 1 h and subsequent austempering processes at 250,300,and 350℃for 15,30,60,90,and 180 *** a result of these austempering processes,different bainitic structures were obtained,which led to the formation of diverse combinations of mechanical *** mechanical properties of the austempered samples were tested comprehensively,and the results were correlated with their microstructures and the stability of the retained austenite *** the microstructural observations,the V-alloyed samples exhibited a finer microstructure and a more acicular ferrite phase than unalloyed *** V addition delayed the coarsening of the acicular ferrite structures and considerably contributed to the improvement of the mechanical properties of ***,the X-ray diffraction results revealed that the retained austenite volume and the carbon enrichment of austenite phases in ADI samples were remarkably affected by the addition of *** increase in volume fraction of retained austenite and its carbon content provided favorable ductility and toughness to V-15,as confirmed by the elongation and impact test ***,the dual-phase ausferrite microstructure of V-15 that was austempered at 300℃for 60 min exhibited high strength with substantial ductility and toughness for crankshaft applications.

BACKGROUND The decision to administer adjuvant chemotherapy to patients with local stage depends on specific high-risk features that are T4 tumor stage, presence of perineural invasion, lymphovascular invasion, poorly differentiated tumor histology, inadequate lymph node sampling (fewer than 12 lymph nodes), and evidence of tumor perforation or obstruction. Tumor-stroma ratio, tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL), Crohn-like reaction (CLR), desmoid reaction, poorly differentiated clusters (PDC) are new pathological markers that are being studied. AIM To examine the relationship between new pathological markers and defined high risk factors, in early stage colorectal cancer. METHODS We evaluated 155 patients with the diagnosis stage I and II colorectal cancer between the years 2007 and 2021 who were treated at Trakya University Hospital, Department of Medical Oncology. We divided those with and without high-risk factors into two groups. We examined the relationship of new pathological markers with these groups and with pathological markers in risk factors. RESULTS There was no statistically significant correlation between presence of TIL, presence of PDC, presence of tumor budding, presence of CLR, presence of desmoid reaction and low and high-risk groups according to the degree of those with PDC (P = 0.82, P = 0.51, P = 0.77, P = 0.37, P = 0.83, respectively). In addition, no statistically significant correlation was found between the tumor-stroma ratio and low and high risk groups (P = 0.80). We found a statistically significant correlation between the presence of PDC and the presence of PDC grade 3 and T stage (P = 0.001, P = 0.001, respectively). It was determined that the presence of PDC and the frequency of grade 3 PDC increased with the advanced T stage. CONCLUSION No relationship was found between the presence of new pathological markers and high-low risk groups. Event-Based Semantics of UML 2.X Concurrent Sequence Diagrams for Formal Verification

UML 2.X sequence diagrams(SD)are among privileged scenarios-based approaches dealing with the complexity of modeling the behaviors of some current ***,there are several issues related to the standard semantics of UML 2.X SD proposed by the Object Management Group(OMG).They mainly concern ambiguities of the interpretation of SDs,and the computation of causal relations between events which is not specifically laid ***,SD is a semi-formal language,and it does not support the verification of the modeled *** justifies the considerable number of research studies intending to define formal semantics of UML *** proposed in our previous work semantics covering the most popular combined fragments(CF)of control-flow ALT,OPT,LOOP and SEQ,allowing to model alternative,optional,iterative and sequential behaviors *** proposed semantics is based on partial order theory relations that permit the computation of the precedence relations between the events of an SD with nested *** also addressed the issue of the evaluation of the interaction constraint(guard)for guarded CFs,and the related synchronization *** this paper,we first extend our semantics,proposed in our previous work;indeed,we propose new rules for the computation of causal relations for SD with PAR and STRICT CFs(dedicated to modeling concurrent and strict behaviors respectively)as well as their ***,we propose a transformational semantics in *** modeling approach emphasizes computation of causal relations,guard handling and transformational semantics into *** transformation of UML 2.X SD into the formal method Event-B allows us to perform several kinds of verification including simulation,trace acceptance,verification of properties,and verification of refinement relation between SDs.
