Use of complementary and alternative medicine in general population during COVID-19 outbreak: A survey in Iran

Objective: Some epidemic diseases such as coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) have caused many physical, psychological, and social challenges, despite the existence of treatment strategies. Many people are looking for complementary and alternative medicine(CAM) to prevent such diseases. The present study was performed to determine how some types of CAM were being used during the COVID-19 epidemic in ***: The present study had a cross-sectional descriptive correlational design. All Iranian residents above 17 years old were eligible to participate in the study. A total of 782 participants completed a demographic information questionnaire, a questionnaire about their use of CAMs and a questionnaire about their satisfaction with the CAMs they used. Web-based sampling was conducted from 20 April 2020 to 20 August ***: Of the participants, 84% used at least one type of CAM during the COVID-19 outbreak. The most used CAMs were dietary supplements(61.3%), prayer(57.9%), and herbal medicines(48.8%). The majority of the participants(50%–66%) have used CAMs to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 or to reduce anxiety caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. CAM use was associated with sex, having children, place of residence, COVID-19 status, and source of gathering information about CAM(P < 0.05). All 32 participants who had been infected with COVID-19 used at least one type of CAM for treatment or alleviation of the disease ***: During the COVID-19 outbreak, some types of CAM, particularly nutritional supplements,medicinal herbs, and prayer, were commonly used to prevent COVID-19 and reduce pandemic-related anxiety.

Assessing the performance of decision tree and neural network models in mapping soil properties

To build any spatial soil database, a set of environmental data including digital elevation model(DEM) and satellite images beside geomorphic landscape description are essentials. Such a database, integrates field observations and laboratory analyses data with the results obtained from qualitative and quantitative models. So far, various techniques have been developed for soil data processing. The performance of Artificial Neural Network(ANN) and Decision Tree(DT) models was compared to map out some soil attributes in Alborz Province, Iran. Terrain attributes derived from a DEM along with Landsat 8 ETM+, geomorphology map, and the routine laboratory analyses of the studied area were used as input data. The relationships between soil properties(including sand, silt, clay, electrical conductivity, organic carbon, and carbonates) and the environmental variables were assessed using the Pearson Correlation Coefficient and Principle Components Analysis. Slope, elevation, geomforms, carbonate index, stream network, wetness index, and the band’s number 2, 3, 4, and 5 were the most significantly correlated variables. ANN and DT did not show the same accuracy in predicting all parameters. The DT model showed higher performances in estimating sand(R^2=0.73), silt(R^2=0.70), clay(R^2=0.72), organic carbon(R^2=0.71), and carbonates(R^2=0.70). While the ANN model only showed higher performance in predicting soil electrical conductivity(R^2=0.95). The results showed that determination the best model to use, is dependent upon the relation between the considered soil properties with the environmental variables. However, the DT model showed more reasonable results than the ANN model in this study. The results showed that before using a certain model to predict variability of all soil parameters, it would be better to evaluate the efficiency of all possible models for choosing the best fitted model for each property. The acidity constants of TAR in different water-organic solvent binary mixtures at 25℃have been determined spectrophotometrically. DATa ANalysis（DATAN） program was used for calculations of the acidity constants and pure spectra of all formed species and their concentration distribution diagram in applied pH *** show that there are a fairly inverse relationship between acidity constants and the mole fraction of the organic solvent in the binary *** of solvent composition on the pK;s and pure spectrum of each component are also discussed.

CFD simulation of impeller shape effect on quality of mixing in two-phase gas–liquid agitated vessel

Mixing efficiency in two-phase gas–liquid agitated vessel is one of the important challenges in the industrial *** fluid dynamics technique(CFD)was used to investigate the effect of four different pitched blade impellers,including 15°,30°,45°and 60°,on the mixing quality of gas–liquid agitated *** multiphase flow behavior was modeled by Eulerian–Eulerian multiphase approach,and RNG k-εwas used to model the *** CFD results showed that a strong global vortex plays the main role on the mixing quality of the gas phase in the *** on the standard deviation criterion,it was observed that the axial distribution of the gas phase in the 30°impeller is about 55%better than the *** addition,the results showed that the 30°impeller has a uniform radial distribution over the other impellers and the maximum gas phase holdup in the *** of the power consumption of the impellers showed that the 30°impeller has the highest power consumption among the other pitched blade ***,examine the effect of same power condition for pitched blade impellers showed that the 30°impeller has the best mixing quality in this condition.

Hydrophilic polymeric membrane supported on silver nanoparticle surface decorated polyester textile:Toward enhancement of water flux and dye removal

A novel mixed matrix nanofiltration membrane was constructed by coating a casting solution containing polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF),polyethylene glycol(PEG)as hydrophilic agent,zeolitic like framework-67(ZIF-67),ethylenediamine as cross-linking agent on Ag-nanoparticle-decorated polyester textile(PT)support(PT/AgNPs/PVDF-PEG/ZIF-67).PT/Ag-NPs/PVDF-PEG/ZIF-67 morphology,crystalline structure,surface chemical composition and hydrophilicity of PT/Ag-NPs/PVDF-PEG/ZIF-67 were fully characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM),X-ray diffraction(XRD),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR)and water contact angle technique,***/Ag-NPs/PVDF-PEG/ZIF-67 was applied in cross module set-up for removal of contaminated water containing rose bengal(RB)*** effect of operational parameters such as dye concentration,solution pH and flow rate on performance of PT/Ag-NPs/PVDF-PEG/ZIF-67 were investigated and optimized by central composite design(CCD).Casting solution containing 0.5 wt.%ZIF-67 as optimum value showed the good wettability,high pure water flux(PWF;35.8 L·m-2·h-1),flux recovery ratio(FRR;90%),dye removal efficiency(96.41%).The selectivity factor of 12.72 and 14.42 was found to be for RB in the presence of amido black and methylene blue as interferent dyes,respectively,which showed a good selective recognition ability for RB dye.

Earthquake acceleration analysis using wavelet method

There are several methods for analyzing the acceleration of an *** this research,a discrete wavelet theory based on the Mallat method was employed to analyze the acceleration of earthquake *** this purpose,first,the acceleration of the main earthquake was determined using the method of banding,filtering and correction of a filtered ***,the acceleration of the earthquake up to five stages was decomposed using discrete wavelet *** this method,in which the Down-Sampling rule is utilized in each step,the number of earthquake record points is half *** of the waveforms was based on the acceleration of the maximum original earthquake,and the maximum acceleration in all the waves was *** each of the five waves obtained from wavelet decomposition,the velocity curve and ground acceleration are obtained and compared with each ***,a structure was analyzed using the main wave of the earthquake and each of the waveforms was analyzed in five stages and their dynamic response curves were *** results showed that until the third stage of the wavelet decomposition,the error was insignificant and the dynamic response to the magnitude of the earthquake was *** analysis time is about 10% of the analysis time with the main wave,and the error is less than 6%.

Magnetic metal organic framework for pre-concentration of ampicillin from cow milk samples

The aim of this study is a present of a simple solvothermal synthesis approach to preparation of Cu-based magnetic metal organic framework(MMOF)and subsequently its application as sorbent for ultrasound assisted magnetic solid phase extraction(UAMSPE)of ampicillin(AMP)from cow milk samples prior to high performance liquid chromatography-Ultraviolet(HPLC-UV)*** of prepared MMOF were fully investigated by different techniques which showed the exclusive properties of proposed sorbent in terms of proper functionality,desirable magnetic property and also high specific surface *** influential factors on extraction recovery including sorbent dosage,ultrasonic time,washing solvent volume and eluent solvent volume were assessed using central composite design(CCD)based response surface methodology(RSM)as an operative and powerful optimization *** is the first report for determination of AMP using *** proposed method addressed some drawbacks of other methods and sorbents for determination of *** presented method decreases the extraction time(4 min)and also enhances adsorption capacity(250 mg/g).Moreover,the magnetic property of presented sorbent(15 emu/g)accelerates the extraction process which does not need filtration,centrifuge and precipitation *** the optimized conditions,the proposed method is applicable for linear range of 1.0-5000.0 μg/L with detection limit of 0.29 μg/L,satisfactory recoveries(≥95.0%)and acceptable repeatability(RSD less than 4.0%).The present study indicates highly promising perspectives of MMOF for highly effective analysis of AMP in complicated matrices.
