Reliability of Tonolab measurements in rats

AIM: To assess the repeatability and reproducibility of Tonolab tonometer in rats with high intraocular pressure(IOP) and evaluate its ability to detect IOP changes in rats with general ***: Left eyes of adult Fischer rats(F344) were photocoagulated by 532 nm diode laser to induce high IOP. Hypertensive eyes of 30 conscious rats were randomly chosen to measure IOP on a single *** observers independently and alternately undertook IOP measurements consecutively for three times using the same Tonolab tonometer blind to the other observer’s IOP measurements. The within subject standard deviation(Sw), coefficient of variation(CVw)(100 ×Sw/overall mean), and intraclass correlation coefficient(ICC) were calculated to evaluate intra-observer repeatability. Inter-observer difference was analysed by using 95% limits of agreement described by Bland-Altman and paired sample t- test. Also, another13 normal F344 rats were intraperitoneally administrated with ketamine/xylazine or chloral hydrate, and IOPs of both eyes were measured by a single operator once every 5min until animals came to conscious. IOPs at various time points were compared by using one-way ***: Mean IOP was 35.58 mm Hg(range 17.33 to65.33 mm Hg). For intraobserver repeatability, the Sw,CVw and ICC of high IOP for two observers were 5.20 mm Hg/3.41 mm Hg, 9.98% /8.08% and 0.820/0.928 *** inter-observer difference was 14.76% ±19.76% of the mean IOP of two observers, with a 95% limits of agreement-23.97% to 53.50%, and the difference between mean IOP of these two observers was statistically significant(P =0.001). IOPs dropped slightly during the first 15 min post-aneathesia, with a IOP change between0.17 and 1.17 mm Hg. IOPs changed from basline of11.75 ±2.05 mm Hg(n =12) to 8.75 ±1.06 mm Hg 20 min post-anesthesia(P =0.001), and this hypotensivecondition persisted until 80 min post-anesthesia. InGaN MQW LEDs, grown by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) on Si(111) substrates, were successfully bonded and transferred onto new Si substrate. After chemical etching Si(111) substrate and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) etching the transferred LED film to Si-doped layer, a vertical structure GaN blue LEDs were then fabricated. The characteristics of the lateral structure LED (grown on Si) and the vertical structure LED (bonded on Si) were investigated. It shows the performance of ver- tical structure LEDs had obviously been improved compared to the lateral structure LEDs and the tensile stress in GaN layer of vertical structure LEDs is smaller than that in lateral structure LEDs.

There is a lack of investigation into the biological characteristics and preoperative systemic therapy （PST） for occult breast cancer （OBC）. For this study, departmental records in Breast Disease Center of Peking University First Hospital from January 2008 to December 2015 were retrospectively reviewed to identify cases of OBC. Eleven cases were included, and all patients were female, with a median age of 56 （range： 29-75） years. The sensitivity of magnetic resonance imaging （MRD was I00%, and the false positive rate was 33.3%. Based on histologic analysis of the axillary node, 9 （81.8%） cases were grade 3, and 2 （18.2%） cases were grade 2; 4 （36.4%） cases were 〉10% estrogen receptor （ER） positive and 6 （54.5%） human epidermal growth receptor 2 （HER2） positive. Nine cases （81.8%） exhibited over 30% Ki67 expression. PST was performed in 5 of the 11 cases. The lymph node response rate was 100% （5/5）, but no complete remission was achieved. In conclusion, aggressive subtypes were predominant among the included cases, and PST should be considered for OBC treatment options.

This study was designed to compare optical biometry measurements and predicted refraction in cataract patients with high myopia [axial length(AL) ≥26 mm] using OA-2000 and IOL Master 500. Ocular biometry measurements were performed using both biometers before surgery. Uneventful cataract surgery was performed in all patients. Postoperative manifest refraction was obtained 3 wk after surgery or later. A total of 67 eyes were examined. The AL, keratometry(K), and anterior chamber depth(ACD) of the two biometers showed excellent agreement. Predicted errors were similar and a strong positive correlation was observed(r=0.909). Out of 21 eyes(31.34%) with unsuccessful AL readings using the IOL Master 500, 20 eyes of them could be measured using OA-2000. Therefore, the biometric parameters measured by the two biometers showed good agreement. However, OA-2000 had a lower AL measurement failure rate.

Although stress has been known to increase the susceptibility of pathogen infection,the underlying mechanism remains *** this study,we reported that restraint stress dramatically enhanced the morbidity and mortality of mice infected with the influenza virus(H1N1)and obviously aggravated lung ***(CORT),a main type of glucocorticoids in rodents,was secreted in the plasma of stressed *** further found that this stress hormone significantly boosted virus replication by restricting mitochondrial antiviral signaling(MAVS)protein-transduced IFN-βproduction without affecting its mRNA level,while the deficiency of MAVS abrogated stress/CORT-induced viral susceptibility in ***,the effect of CORT was mediated by proteasome-dependent degradation of MAVS,thereby resulting in the impediment of MAVS-transduced IFN-βgeneration in vivo and in ***,RNA-seq assay results indicated the involvement of Mitofusin 2(Mfn2)in this ***-and loss-offunction experiments indicated that Mfn2 interacted with MAVS and recruited E3 ligase SYVN1 to promote the polyubiquitination of ***-immunoprecipitation experiments clarified an interaction between any two regions of Mfn2(HR1),MAVS(C-terminal/TM)and SYVN1(TM).Collectively,our findings define the Mfn2-SYVN1 axis as a new signaling cascade for proteasome-dependent degradation of MAVS and a‘fine tuning’of antiviral innate immunity in response to influenza infection under stress.

The tea green leafhopper, Empoasca vitis Gothe, is one of the most serious insect pests of tea plantations in China's Mainland. Over the past decades, this pest has been controlled mainly by spraying pesticides. Insecticide applications not only have become less effective in controlling damage, but even more seriously, have caused high levels of toxic residues in teas, which ultimately threatens human health. Therefore, we should seek a safer biological control approach. In the present study, key components of tea shoot volatiles were identified and behaviorally tested as potential leafhopper attractants. The following 13 volatile compounds were identified from aeration samples of tea shoots using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry （GC-MS）：（E）-2-hexenal, （Z）-3-hexen-1- ol, （Z）-3-hexenyl acetate, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, （E）-ocimene, linalool, nonanol, （Z）-butanoic acid, 3-hexenyl ester, decanal, tetradecane, β-caryophyllene, geraniol and hexadecane. In Y-tube olfactometer tests, the following individual compounds were identified：（E）-2- hexenal, （E）-ocimene, （Z）-3-hexenyl acetate and linalool, as well as two synthetic mixtures （called blend 1 and blend 2） elicited significant taxis, with blend 2 being the most attractive. Blend 1 included linalool, （Z）-3-hexen-l-ol and （E）-2-hexenal at a 1： 1：1 ratio, whereas blend 2 was a mixture of eight compounds at the same loading ratio：（E）-2-hexenal, （Z）- 3-hexen-l-ol, （Z）-3-hexenyl acetate, 2-penten-l-ol, （E）-2-pentenal, pentanol, hexanol and 1-penten-3-ol. In tea fields, the bud-green sticky board traps baited with blend 2, （E）-2- hexenal or hexane captured adults and nymphs of the leafhoppers, with blend 2 being the most attractive, foUowed by （E）-2-hexenal and hexane. Placing sticky traps baited with blend 2 or （E）-2-hexenal in the tea fields significantly reduced leathopper populations. Phosphorus Fractions in Water and Sediment and Their Correlations in Hengshui Lake, China

Sediment is a principal reservoir which accumulates and releases the pollutants. It is an important way of nutrients releasing from pore water of sediments to overlying water across the sediment-water interface. Five sampling sites were selected in the Hengshui Lake. Overlying water and sediments were collected in each of them. The phosphorus fractions and their relationships were analyzed. The results showed that the change of the total phosphorus （TP） in sediment was similar to that of the total dissolved phosphorus （TDP） and soluble orthophosphate （PO4^3-） in pore water. The concentrations of PO4^3- in pore water were higher than those in overlying water, reflecting a possible diffuse trend for PO4^3-P in the five zones of Hengshui Lake. It is indicated that phosphorus and other nutrients will be transferred from sediment to pore water and then to overlying water, which can lead to lake eutrophication.

Since the 1970s, some people in north, northeast,northwest areas began to smoke caffeinum natrio benzoicum （CNB） and started to abuse CNB. As a common ingredient that can be found in drugs or drinks,many studies on the safety of CNB have been investigated, but no one has shown significant abnormality in the brain of a CNB abuser by using neuroimaging. In our study, three subjects from of a two generation father-and-son family with long-term smoking CNB were enrolled. Combining with the clinical data and taking the cocaine animal trial model and toxicology as the reference, we wanted to observe the performance of brain MRI and MRS of patients with long-term smoking CNB.
