Microsurgical treatment of craniopharyngiomas:report of 284 patients

Background Generally, total surgical removal of craniopharyngioma results in satisfactory outcome with a low recurrence rate, however, the location of the tumor and its adherence to the hypothalamic structures can make the operation difficult. The goal of the present study was to assess the outcome of craniopharyngiomas in 284 patients treated surgically. Methods A total of 284 patients （151 men and 133 women） with craniopharyngioma were treated surgically by our neurosurgeons from January 1996 to March 2006. Among them, 226 （79.6%） patients were adults （15 years of age or older; mean, 35.8 ± 10.6）, 58 （20.4%） were children （14 years of age or younger; mean, 9.1 ± 3.8）. The diameter of the tumors were 2.0-9.0 cm （mean, 36.54± 11.4）. The tumors were classified into the superior （23 patients） and inferior ventricular （261） types according to the location of the tumor relative to the third ventricular floor. For the patients with craniopharyngioma of inferior ventricular type, pterional approach was used in 191 （67.3%） patients, subfrontal approach in 17 （6.0%）, and translamina terminalis through frontobasal interhemispheric approach in 53 08.7%）. For those with the tumors of superior ventricular type, transcallosal approach into the anterior third ventricle was done in 10 （3.5%） patients, and the lamina terminalis approach in 13 （4.6%）. Of the 284 patients, 204 （71.8%） were followed up for 0.5 to 8 years （mean, 2.1 ± 1.8）, including 162 patients received total tumor removal, and 37 underwent subtotal or partial removal. Results Total, subtotal and partial removal of the tumors were achieved in 237 （83.5%）, 34 （12.0%） and 13 （4.5%） patients, respectively. The pituitary stalk was preserved in 176 （62.0%） patients, severed in 52 （18.3%）, and unidentified in 56 （19.7%）. Twelve （4.2%） patients died within one month after the surgery. During the follow-up, 23 （14.1%） patients experienced tumor recurrence 1.0-3.5 years （mean, 1.8± 1.6） after total tumor removal, and 24 （64.9

The apoptosis protection by plasminogen activator inhibitor-2(PAI-2) is dependent on a 33 amino acid fragment between helix C and D of PAI-2 which is probably due to the interaction of PAI-2 with unknown intracellular proteins. In this study, we used the fragment between helix C and D of PAI-2 as bait to screen a HeLa cell cDNA library constructed during apoptosis in a yeast two-hybrid system and retrieved a clone encoding 241 amino acids of proteasome (prosome, macropain) subunit, beta type l(PSMβ1) which plays important roles in NF-jjjjjjjjB activation. GST-pulldown experiments confirmed the interaction between PAI-2 and PSMβ1 in vitro. These data suggest that the antiapoptosis activity of PAI-2 is probably related to its interation with PSMβ1.

This study aimed to investigate the effect of varying pyrite(Py)content on copper(Cu)in the presence of different regrinding conditions,which were altered using different types of grinding media:iron,ceramic balls,and their mixture,followed by flotation in the cleaner *** flotation performance of rough Cu concentrate can be improved by changing the regrinding conditions based on the Py *** electron microscopy,X-ray spectrometry,ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt extraction,and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy studies illustrated that when the Py content was high,the use of iron media in regrinding promoted the generation of hydrophilic Fe OOH on the surface of Py and improved the Cu *** ceramic medium with a low Py content prevented excessive Fe OOH from covering the surface of chalcopyrite(Cpy).Electrochemical studies further showed that the galvanic corrosion current of Cpy-Py increased with the addition of Py and became stronger with the participation of iron media.

The new energy power generation is becoming increasingly important in the power *** as photovoltaic power generation has become a research hotspot,however,due to the characteristics of light radiation changes,photovoltaic power generation is unstable and random,resulting in a low utilization rate and directly affecting the stability of the power *** solve this problem,this paper proposes a coordinated control strategy for a newenergy power generation system with a hybrid energy storage unit based on the lithium iron phosphate-supercapacitor hybrid energy storage ***,the variational mode decomposition algorithm is used to separate the high and low frequencies of the power signal,which is conducive to the rapid and accurate suppression of the power fluctuation of the energy storage ***,the fuzzy control algorithm is introduced to balance the power between energy *** this paper,the actual data is used for simulation,and the simulation results show that the strategy realizes the effective suppression of the bus voltage fluctuation and the accurate control of the internal state of the energy storage unit,effectively avoiding problems such as overshoot and over-discharge,and can significantly improve the stability of the photovoltaic power generation systemand the stability of the Direct Current *** is of great significance to promote the development of collaborative control technology for photovoltaic hybrid energy storage units.

Graphene platelets(GPLs)-reinforced metal foam structures enhance the mechanical properties while maintaining the lightweight characteristics of metal foams. Further bonding piezoelectric actuator and sensor layers on the surfaces of GPLs-reinforced metal foam beams enables active vibration control, greatly expanding their applications in the aerospace industry. For the first time, this paper investigates the vibration characteristics and active vibration control of GPLs-reinforced metal foam beams with surfacebonded piezoelectric layers. The constant velocity feedback scheme is used to design the closed-loop controller including piezoelectric actuators and sensors. The effects of the GPLs on the linear and nonlinear free vibrations of the beams are numerically *** Newmark-β method combined with Newton's iteration technique is used to calculate the nonlinear responses of the beams under different load forms including harmonic loads,impact loads, and moving loads. Additionally, special attention is given to the vibration reduction performance of the velocity feedback control on the responses of the beam.

Na3V2（PO4）2O2F （VP） is recognized as a promising cathode material for sodium-ion batteries due to its stable structural framework and high specific *** functional theory （DFT） and finite element simulations show that incorporating SO42-into VP decreases its band gap,lowers the migration energy barrier,and ensures a uniform Na+concentration gradient and stress distribution during charge and discharge ***,the average Na+diffusion coefficient of Na3V2（PO4）1.95（SO4）0.05O2F（VPS-1） is roughly double that of VP,leading to enhanced rate capability (80 C,75.5 mAh g-1) and cycling stability (111.0 mAh g-1capacity after 1000 cycles at 10 C current density) for ***-1 exhibits outstanding fast-charging capabilities,achieving an 80%state of charge in just 8.1 *** assembled VPS-1//SbSn/NPC full cell demonstrated stable cycling over 200 cycles at a high 5 C current,maintaining an average coulombic efficiency of 95.35%.
