Cytotoxicity and Apoptosis Assay of Novel Cyclomyrsinol Diterpenes Against Breast Cancer Cell Lines

Background:Cyclomyrsinane diterpenes especially those extracted from various Euphorbia species have shown interesting biological properties in recent *** of the high prevalence of breast cancer and the challenges ahead in its treatment,the use of these compounds as potential anti cancer agents seem ***:The aim of the present study was to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of some myrsinane type diterpenoids extracted from Euphorbia sogdiana Popov and determine their induced cell death ***:MTT assay was used to determine the cytotoxicity of six various myrsinane compounds on MCF 7 and 4 T1 breast cancer cell *** umbilical vein endothelial cells were used as the normal cell line *** apoptotic effects of the structure with the most cytotoxic effects were determined using flow cytometry assay in IC50 concentration for 24 h of ***:Compound(6)showed the most cytotoxic effects with IC50 of about 8±4 and 24±4μg/mL for MCF 7 and 4 T1 cell lines,***,the cells treated with 5 and 10μg/mL of compound(6)for 24 h,showed 37 and 55%of apoptotic ***:These surveyed compounds have the potential to be considered as useful anti-breast cancer agents due to the great cytotoxicity and apoptotic effects against these cancer cells and the fact that there was no significant cytotoxicity on normal cells.

Facile Synthesis and Characterization of Nanoporous NiO with Folic Acid as Photodegredation Catalyst for Congo Red

In this study nanoporous NiO was prepared using Ni(CH3COO)2,4H2O, folic acid and water as starting material, template and solvent respectively, by sol gel method followed by calcination at 400℃. The solid product was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption-desorption, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and photoluminescence (PL) techniques. The particle size of the nanoparticles estimated by XRD was in good agreement with the particle size obtained by TEM analysis (4-5nm). It was also found that the prepared nanoporous NiO show very good activity for photodegredation of dye organic pollutants such as Congo red (91%) during 1.5 hours.

Investigating the Relationship between Responsibility-Taking and Identity Crisis among One-Child Students

The present study has investigated the relationship between responsibility-taking and identity crisis among one-child students. This research is a descriptive-correlational study and the target population comprised all one-child female students of Mashhad secondary schools in the academic year 2014-2015. In this study, multistage cluster sampling method was applied and finally, Region 4, 6 and 7 were randomly selected and 150 students were also randomly chosen according to Morgan table. The research data was collected through California Psychological Inventory (CPI) and Ahmadi identity crisis questionnaire. The obtained information was analyzed by Pearson correlation test and regression. The achieved results indicated that the relationship between responsibility-taking and identity crisis among students is statistically reverse and significant at the level of p < 0.01. In other words, with reducing the identity crisis in students, their responsibility-taking increases. As a result, the main research hypothesis indicating the relationship between responsibility-taking and identity crisis among one-child students of Mashhad secondary schools was confirmed.

Reduced Graphene Oxide-TiO<sub>2</sub>Nanocomposite Facilitated Visible Light Photodegradation of Gaseous Toluene

The photocatalytic degradation of gaseous toluene was investigated on TiO2 nanoparticles coated on reduced graphene oxide. Reduced graphene oxide-TiO2 composite (RGO-TiO2) was synthesized via two step processes. The prepared RGO-TiO2 composite was characterized using SEM, XRD, and UV-visible spectra. A significant increase in light absorption to visible light was observed by RGO-TiO2 compared with that of pure TiO2 nano particles. The photocatalytic degradation efficiency of the RGO-TiO2 composite was much higher than that of the P25 TiO2, 95% and 40% respectively. In our investigated conditions, the initial concentration, flow rate and relative humidity had significant influences on the photocatalytic degradation of gaseous toluene. The most efficiency was recorded at the 0.3 ppm concentration, 1L/min flow rate and 30% relative humidity. We believe that this TiO2 based composite material can be effectively used as a highly active and stable photocatalyst to remove various indoor air pollutants especially gaseous toluene. The photocatalytic degradation efficiencies of toluene increased slowly below 20% relative humidity and then decreased as the relative humidity increased further. The main reason of enhanced photocatalytic property might be the strong electron transfer ability, and the increased adsorption capacity of RGO sheets in the composites as well as the retarded charge recombination rate contributed by the energy level of the two materials. We believe that this TiO2 based composite material can be effectively used as a highly active and stable photocatalyst to remove various gaseous pollutants.

Progress in the development of vaccines for hepatitis C virus infection

The hepatitis C virus(HCV), first described in 1989, is now a leading cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. With more than 170 million people infected globally, this virus is a major public health issue. The current standard therapy is based on interferon in combination with ribavirin. This costly therapy often fails to completely clear the infection and is associated with adverse side effects. Recent anti-HCV therapies are interferon-free direct-acting antiviral(DAA) regimens for HCV, including simeprevir, sofosbuvir, and ledipasvir, which have effects on non-structural proteins. DAA regimens have several advantages, such as specifically targeting HCV viral replication, accompanied by very high sustained virological response rates and lower side effects like flu-like syndrome. These facts plus the fact that most HCV cases progress to chronic infection suggest the potential need for an efficient HCV vaccine. Different innovative methods, including methods based on peptide, recombinant protein, DNA, vector-based, and virus-like particles, have been introduced for the development of HCV vaccines. An extensive number of studies have been published on these vaccines, and some vaccines were even tested in clinical trials. In the current review, progress in the development of preventive and therapeutic vaccines against the HCV is reviewed in the context of peptide vaccines, recombinant protein vaccines, HCV-like particle, DNA vaccines and viral vectors expressing HCV genes.

Surgical Outcomes and Local Recurrence Following Total or Subtotal Gastrectomy for Early Adenocarcinoma of Antrum

Objective： The choice between total gastrectomy （TG） and subtotal gastrectomy （STG） for early adenocarcinoma of the lower third of the stomach is still a matter of debate and controversy amongst surgeons. The aim of this study was to compare the surgical outcomes, quality of life （QoL）, and local recurrence rates as well as other results of curative resection of early distal adenocarcinoma of the stomach using TG or STG performed in Iran. Methods： Hospital records of 66 patients with early distal adenocarcinoma of stomach that underwent even total or subtotal gastrectomy with perigastric （D2） lymphadenectomy between October 2001 and February 2006 in Taleghani Hospital, Iran were reviewed retrospectively. Demographic data as well as clinicopathological factors including number of involved lymph nodes, tumor grading, depth of invation, tumor size, and tumor type were recorded. Post-operative outcomes including mortality and morbidity, tumor recurrence and quality of life were assessed. Univariate analyses using Fisher＇s exact test, the Student t-test, and the Pearson χ^2 test were used. Results： Local recurrence of tumor was found in 8 （23%） TG group patients and in 19 （61%） patients of STG group, the Pearson χ^2 test showed a significant higher recurrence rate in STG （P value=0.002, Relative Risk=2.68, Confidence Interval： 1.37-5.24）.The mean time interval between gastrectomy and tumor recurrence was not different between TG and STG. （19.75±5.1 vs. 18.0±7.8 respectively; P value=0.507） Tumor size 〉5 cm （P value=0.004）, diffuse type （P value=0.034）, poor differentiation （P value=0.000） and serosal invasion （P value=0.012） were found to be significantly related to tumor recurrence in patients undergone gastrectomy. In none of the QoL measures a significant difference was found between TG and STG Conclusion： Our results show that subtotal and total gastrectomy methods with perigastric lymphadenectomy have a similar postoperative complication rate and surgical outcomes a

A Tree Based Data Aggregation Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks Using GA

Energy is one of the most important items to determine the network lifetime due to low power energy nodes included in the network. Generally, data aggregation tree concept is used to find an energy efficient solution. However, even the best aggregation tree does not share the load of data packets to the transmitting nodes fairly while it is consuming the lowest possible energy of the network. Therefore, after some rounds, this problem causes to consume the whole energy of some heavily loaded nodes and hence results in with the death of the network. In this paper, by using the Genetic Algorithm (GA), we investigate the energy efficient data collecting spanning trees to find a suitable route which balances the data load throughout the network and thus balances the residual energy in the network in addition to consuming totally low power of the network. Using an algorithm which is able to balance the residual energy among the nodes can help the network to withstand more and consequently extend its own lifetime. In this work, we calculate all possible routes represented by the aggregation trees through the genetic algorithm. GA finds the optimum tree which is able to balance the data load and the energy in the network. Simulation results show that this balancing operation practically increases the network lifetime.

Biodegradation of high density polyethylene using Streptomyces species

Objective: To investigate the biodegradation of high density polyethylene (HDPE) by Streptomyces species isolated from the soil of East Azerbaijan, Iran. Methods: Powders of HDPE samples were prepared by grinding in different particle sizes of 212, 300, 420, and 500 microns. Each time 50 mg of a sample was poured to a liquid medium containing species. Samples were incubated for 18 days at 28 °C in a shaker-incubator and their degradation percentage was measured by weighting method. Produced metabolite at 18th day was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Also a film of HDPE was subjected to biodegradation and after one month was analyzed by scanning electron microscope which showed degradation on the surface of the film. Results: The results showed that Streptomyces species degraded 50 mg of HDPE sample with the size of 212 μm about 18.26%, 300 and 420 μm about 14.4%, and 500 μm about 13%. Kinetic modeling of biodegradation process showed that the reaction rate was first order with respect to concentration of HDPE. Based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry results, no high toxic material was produced during biodegradation of HDPE. Conclusions: The research showed that isolated Streptomyces sp. are capable of degradation of HDPE polymer with high degradation efficiency.

A New Clustering Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks Using Genetic Algorithm Approach

This paper examines the optimization of the lifetime and energy consumption of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). These two competing objectives have a deep influence over the service qualification of networks and according to recent studies, cluster formation is an appropriate solution for their achievement. To transmit aggregated data to the Base Station (BS), logical nodes called Cluster Heads (CHs) are required to relay data from the fixed-range sensing nodes located in the ground to high altitude aircraft. This study investigates the Genetic Algorithm (GA) as a dynamic technique to find optimum states. It is a simple framework that includes a proposed mathematical formula, which increasing in coverage is benchmarked against lifetime. Finally, the implementation of the proposed algorithm indicates a better efficiency compared to other simulated works.

A Novel Energy Efficient Routing Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless sensor networks are employed in several applications, including military, medical, environmental and household. In all these applications, energy usage is the determining factor in the performance of wireless sensor networks. Consequently, methods of data routing and transferring to the base station are very important because the sensor nodes run on battery power and the energy available for sensors is limited. In this paper we intend to propose a new protocol called Fair Efficient Location-based Gossiping (FELGossiping) to address the problems of Gossiping and its extensions. We show how our approach increases the network energy and as a result maximizes the network life time in comparison with its counterparts. In addition, we show that the energy is balanced (fairly) between nodes. Saving the nodes energy leads to an increase in the node life in the network, in comparison with the other protocols. Furthermore, the protocol reduces propagation delay and loss of packets.
