Hypertension Associated with Atherosclerosis Risk Factors in Patients of Family Health Strategy Highlighting the Framingham Risk Score

The Systemic Arterial Hypertension (SAH) stands out among the chronic non-transmissible pathologies that impact the cause and/or aggravation of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) on a global level, as the disease is an underestimated disorder due to non-perceptive symptoms and associated with factors and risk markers of another CVD. Therefore, establishing the risk of progression and aggravation of the SAH, according the Framingham Risk Score (FRS), allows to reducing morbidity and improving preventative measures for DCVs. This observational and transversal study approaches the data collection of patient records at the Health Family Strategy of Senhor do Bonfim, BA, which established differences by descriptive and inferential statistical analysis (correlation and regression). The aspects of hypertension associated with risk factors for atherosclerosis were analyzed, determining the risk of developing cardiovascular events in 10 years by FRS. From 432 families, 746 patients were selected, of which 340 are hypertensive individuals (SAH = 45.57%) and 406 (NSAH = 54.42%) non-hypertensives. Among the SAH the majority (31.17%) was in the age range of 63 - 77, but, in both groups, women were in stronger number. There was greater prevalence in SAH for all the characteristics analyzed, smoking (13.20%), sedentary (29.41%) and cardiovascular accident (22.60%). The SAH group is more susceptive to the CVD progress in 10 years by FRS (P despite the correlations have been significant too, the regression analysis revealed that only Total Cholesterol (P = 0.0086);LDL (P < 0.0001), Glucose (P < 0.0006) and Age (P < 0.0001) have significative association with FRS. Physicochemical and Sensory Characterization of Banana and Aracá-Boi Jam

This study evaluated the physicochemical and sensory properties of mixed jam elaborated with banana and ara?á-boi. Four banana extract (BE) and ara?á-boi (AB) jams were prepared using the following proportions: F1 (70% BE:30% AB), F2 (60% BE:40% AB), F3 (40% BE:60% AB) and F4 (30% BE:70% AB). The jams were analyzed for physicochemical and sensory properties. The sensory acceptance test was performed by 50 panelists who were asked to indicate how much they liked/ disliked the jams based on the following attributes: color, aroma, flavor and texture. The formulations that contained more BE (F1 and F2) showed a lower titratable acidity (TA), higher ratio (SS/TA) and higher total sugar. A global analysis of the internal preference mapping verified that formulations F1 and F2 were preferred for flavor and had good acceptance levels for the other evaluated attributes, which indicated that the consumers favored jams with lower concentrations of AB and higher concentrations of BE. The formulation F1 was considered the most accepted for all attributes evaluated and showed high purchase intent (68%), and was therefore appropriate for industrialization and consumption.

Germination of Sweet Sorghum Seeds in Different Water Potentials

The implantation of sweet sorghum has been shown as viable alternative in crop rotation in sugar cane plantation reform areas. The seed environment in the field is complex and several factors, such as different genotypes and osmotic stress, can negatively influence the seeds water uptake and, therefore, the sequence of germination events can be compromised. In this context, the objective of this study was to evaluate the different physiological responses of sweet sorghum seeds (Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench) belonging to the hybrids CV 007 and CV 147 and cultivar BRS 506 when submitted to substrates with different water potentials (-0.1, -0.2, -0.3, -0.4, and -0.5 MPa) using solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG 6000). The seeds remained in Biochemical Oxygen demand-type germination chambers, under constant white light and the temperature of 25°C for 14 h in the high temperature and 10 h in the low temperature. The moisture of the substrates was regularly monitored. The physiological potential of the genotypes was evaluated using the following characteristics: first count, germination, germination speed index (GSI), root length, and fresh and dry weights of seedlings. In general, germination and early growth of seedlings were negatively affected by the reduction of water potentials below -0.1 MPa, which was also damaging to the GSI of the seeds. Germination and growth of seedlings of the hybrids CV 007 and CV 147 and of the cultivar BRS 506 were affected by reduced water potentials starting at -0.1 MPa. The seeds of hybrid CV 147 were more tolerant to simulated water stress with PEG 6000 than those of hybrid CV 007 and cultivar BRS 506.

Quality of Drugs Based on Ferrous Sulfate Dispensed in a Basic Health and Commercial Pharmacy in a City in the Amazon Region

Background: For the WHO, anemia is a serious public health problem, with an emphasis on deprivation anemia, which has socioeconomic conditions as determining factors for its development. Among nutritional anemias, the most relevant is iron deficiency, whose main form of prevention and treatment is supplementation with ferrous sulfate dispensed in the public health system, with the need to periodically check whether the drug has the quality required by regulatory health agencies. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the quality of the ferrous sulfate medication, from the same laboratory, and dispensed in a basic health unit (BHU) and a commercial pharmacy (CF). Materials and Methods: An analytical, qualitative and quantitative study of ferrous sulfate heptahydrate (25 mg/mL in 100 mL syrup), carried out on 20 BHU and 10 from CF, both from the same laboratory, but in different batches. Samples were subjected to organoleptic analysis and verification of iron content, pH, volume and density. Data were compared with values recommended by the Brazilian pharmacopoeia 5th edition. Results: Three batches were evaluated: 4659 of from the CF;4574 from the BHU1, and 4576 from the BHU2, stored in accordance with RDC 304/19 of ANVISA. All showed compliance with some organoleptic characteristics;and stable values in pH (3.61 - CF;3.67 - BHU1;3.65 - BHU2), density (1.079 - CF;1.088 - BHU1;1.086 - BHU2) and individual volume (not less than 95% of the declared value). However, it was not possible to detect the odor of herbs;the average volume of batch BHU1 was below the declared value, and the iron content of both BHUs was above the maximum value of pharmacopoeia standards. Conclusion: Samples did not show full compliance with the physical and chemical parameters evaluated, suggesting deviation in the quality of the medication.

Evaluation of Adverse Events Following Immunization against Rotavirus Regardless of Recommended Age Restriction

Introduction: Mild and moderate Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI) against Rotavirus has not received much attention when the vaccine is administered regardless of recommended age restriction. Objectives: To describe the behavior of mild and moderate AEFI in immunized subjects against Rotavirus, in who age restriction period had not been considered. Methods: A case-control study in which we included immunized patients with monovalent oral vaccine against rotavirus and divided them into two groups: 1) Infants who received RV1 vaccine without considering the recommended period, and 2) Infants who were vaccinated with the recommended schedule. Results: From the total doses, 143/1894 (7.5%) were administered outside the restriction period. The most frequent AEFIs with the first dose were purpura, polypnea, and rhinorrhea;For the second dose: purpura, bloody stools, irritability and rhinorrhea. Conclusions: This study shows the benefits from vaccination regardless of age restriction are more beneficial compared to the possible risks of AEFI.
