Background The Cerrado is the most biodiverse savanna and maintains other biomes. Aware of its significance, this paper evaluated the Brazilian Cerrado's climatic, environmental, and socioeconomic aspects using remote sensing data and spatial statistics(correlation analysis and principal components analysis—PCA). following the measures of sample adequacy(MSA) and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin(KMO) tests, seventeen variables were *** The MSA revealed that the dataset had a good quality(0.76), and nine variables were selected: elevation, evapotranspiration, active fires, Human development Index(HDI), land use and land cover(LULC; shrubland and cropland/rainfed), rainfall(spring and autumn), and livestock. The correlation matrix indicated a positive(negative) association between HDI and autumn rainfall(HDI and active fires) with a value of 0.77(-0.55). The PCA results determined which three principal components(PC) were adequate for extracting spatial patterns, accounting for 68.02% of the total variance with respective values of 38.59%, 16.89%, and 12.5%. Due to economic development and agribusiness, Cerrado's northern(central, western, and southern) areas had negative(positive) score HDI values, as shown in PC1. Climatic(rainfall—spring and fall) and environmental(cropland/rainfed and shrubland) aspects dominated the PC2, with negative scores in northern and western portions due to the transition zone between Amazon and Cerrado biomes caused by rainfall variability. On the other hand, environmental aspects(LULC-shrubland and elevation) influenced the PC3; areas with high altitudes(> 500 m) received a higher *** Agricultural expansion substantially affected LULC, leading to deforestation-caused suppression of native vegetation.

Exploring overweight and obesity beyond body mass index:A body composition analysis in people with and without patellofemoral pain

Background:We compared body mass index(BMI),body fat,and skeletal muscle mass between(1) a mixed-sex nonathletic cohort of people with patellofemoral pain(PfP) and pain-free people,and(2) a nonathletic cohort of people with PfP and pain-free people subgrouped by sex(i.e.,men and women with PfP ***-free men and women).Methods:This cross-sectional study included 114 people with PfP(71 women,43 men) and 54 pain-free controls(32 women,22 men).All participants attended a single testing session to assess body composition measures,which included BMI,percentage of body fat(%BfBioimpedance),and skeletal muscle mass(both assessed by bioelectrical impedance analysis),and percentage of body fat(%Bfskinfoid)(assessed by skinfold caliper analysis).A one-way univariate analysis of covariance(age and physical activity levels as covariates) was used to compare body composition measures between groups(i.e.,PfP ***-free group;women with PfP ***-free women;men with PfP ***-free men).Results:Women with PfP presented significantly higher BMI,%BfBiompedance,and %BfSkinfold,and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free women(p≤0.04;effect size:-0.47 to 0.85).Men with PfP and men and women combined had no differences in BMI,%BfBioimpedance,%BfSkinfold,and skeletal muscle mass compared to their respective pain-free groups(p> 0.05).Conclusion:Our findings indicate that BMI and body composition measures should be considered as part of the evaluation and management of people with PfP,especially in women,who have demonstrated higher BMI and body fat and lower skeletal muscle mass compared to pain-free *** studies should not assess body composition measures in a mixed-sex population without distinguishing men participants from women participants.

Overweight and obesity in young adults with patellofemoral pain:Impact on functional capacity and strength

Purpose:This study aimed to(a)investigate the proportion of overweight/obesity in a cohort of young adults with patellofemoral pain(PfP)and(b)explore the association of body mass index(BMI),body fat,and lean mass with functional capacity and hip and knee strength in people with ***:We included a mixed-sex sample of young adults(18-35 years old)with PfP(n=100).Measurements for BMI,percentage of body fat,and lean mass(assessed by bioelectrical impedance)were *** capacity was assessed by the Anterior Knee Pain Scale,plank test,and single-leg hop *** of the knee extensors,knee flexors,and hip abductors was evaluated isometrically using an isokinetic *** proportion of overweight/obesity was calculated based on *** association between BMI,body fat,and lean mass and functional capacity and strength was investigated using partial correlations,followed by hierarchical regression analysis,adjusted for covariates(sex,bilateral pain,and current pain level).Results:A total of 38%of our cohort had their BMI categorized as overweight/*** BMI was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.06-0.12,pflexion strength only(ΔR^(2)=0.04,p=0.030).Higher body fat was associated with poor functional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.05-0.15,p≤0.015)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.15-0.23,pfunctional capacity(ΔR^(2)=0.04-0.13,p≤0.032)and reduced strength(ΔR^(2)=0.29-0.31,pfat,and lean mass should be considered in the assessment and management of young people with PfP because it may be detrimental to function and strength.

Yet Another Intelligent Code-Generating System： A flexible and Low-Cost Solution

Modern compilers apply various code transformation algorithms to improve the quality of the target code. However, a complex problem is to determine which transformation algorithms must be utilized. This is difficult because of three reasons： a number of transformation algorithms, various combination possibilities, and several configuration possibil- ities. Over the last few years, various intelligent systems were presented in the literature. The goal of these systems is to search for transformation algorithms and thus apply them to a certain program. This paper proposes a flexible, low-cost and intelligent system capable of identifying transformation algorithms for an input program, considering the program＇s specific features. This system is flexible for parameterization selection and has a low-computational cost. In addition, it has the capability to maximize the exploration of available computational resources. The system was implemented under the Low Level Virtual Machine infrastructure and the results indicate that it is capable of exceeding, up to 21.36%, performance reached by other systems. In addition, it achieved an average improvement of up to 17.72% over the most aggressive compiler optimization level of the Low Level Virtual Machine infrastructure.

Improving the Thermal Efficiency and Performance of Refrigeration Systems:Numerical-Experimental Analysis of Minimization of frost formation

The frost growth on cold surfaces in evaporators is an undesirable phenomenon which becomes a problem for the thermal efficiency of the refrigeration systems because the ice layer acts as a thermal insulation,drastically reducing the rate of heat transfer in the *** accumulation implies an increase in energy demand and a decrease in the performance of various components involved in the refrigeration process,reducing its efficiency and making it necessary to periodically remove the frost,resulting in expenses for the defrost *** the present work,a numerical-experimental analysis was performed in order to understand the formation process of porous ice in flat plates with different surface treatments and *** understanding is of utmost importance to minimize the formation of porous ice on cold surfaces and improve equipment efficiency and *** this context,a low-cost experimental apparatus was developed,enabling an experimental analysis of the phenomenon under *** environmental conditions evaluated are the temperature of the cold surface,roomtemperature,humidity,and air *** material of the surfaces under study are aluminum,copper,and brass with different surface finishes,designated as smooth,grooved(hydrophilic),and varnished(hydrophobic).The numerical-experimental analysis demonstrates measurements and simulations of the thickness,surface temperature,and growth rate of the porous ice layer as a function of the elapsed *** numerical results were in good agreement with the experimental results,indicating that the varnished surface,with hydrophobic characteristics,presents greater difficulty in providing the ***,the results showed that application of a coating allowed a significant reduction on the frost formation process contributing to the improvement of thermal efficiency and performance of refrigeration systems.

This study aimed to describe a Computational fluid Dynamics(CfD) procedure using the ANSYS CfX software 16.1 and design of Experiments for the determination of volume and extension of explosive atmospheres due to fugitive emissions of flammable *** multidimensional statistical sampling technique Latin Hypercube was used, which defined 100 simulations of random methane gas leak *** CfD model proved to be robust in predicting the extension and volume of the explosive atmosphere for orifice diameters from 0.1 to2.5 mm, pressure from 0.1 MPa to 12 MPa and temperatures from 0 ℃ to 400 ℃.It was found that the calculation domain must be parameterized 8 m in length for each millimeter of the diameter of the source of release to ensure the *** order not to lose precision for very small diameters, the mesh was parameterized with 50 elements along the orifice *** was proved that gravity does not influence the extension and volume of the explosive atmosphere at sonic *** deviation from the ideal gas behavior in the reservoir,achieved by applying the Soave–Redlich–Kwong equation of state, also has not significantly influenced the extension and volume of the explosive *** results showed that the size of the explosive atmosphere varies directly with the diameter of the source emission and reservoir pressure, and inversely with the temperature of the *** diameter of the source is the parameter that has the major effect on the extension of the explosive atmosphere, followed by the pressure and lastly the temperature of the reservoir.
