Twisted bilayer graphene(TBG)has taken the spotlight in the condensed matter community since the discovery of correlated *** this work,we study heterostructures of TBG and hexagonal boron nitride(hBN)using an atomistic tight-binding model together with semi-classical molecular dynamics to consider relaxation *** hBN substrate has significant effects on the band structure of TBG even in the case where TBG and hBN are not ***,the substrate induces a large mass gap and strong pseudo-magnetic fields that break the layer ***,such degeneracy can be recovered with a second hBN ***,we develop a continuum model that describes the tight-binding band *** results show that a real-space tight-binding model in combination with semi-classical molecular dynamics is a powerful tool to study the electronic properties of moiréheterostructures,and to explain experimental results in which the effect of the substrate plays an important role.

Background:Leishmaniasis causes alterations and lesions in the genital system,which leads to azoospermia and testicular atrophy in animals during the chronic phase of the *** aim of this study was to reveal the kinetics of Leishmania chagasi infection in the genital system of male golden hamsters(Mesocricetus auratus).Methods:Animals were intraperitoneally inoculated with amastigotes from *** different time points animals were euthanized and genital organs processed for histo-pathological,qPCR,cytokines and testosterone detection ***:Our results showed a high parasite load in testis,followed by an increase of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL1-β,TNf-αand IfN-γ,and ***,IL-4 expression was upregulated and basal parasite persistence in testis was observed using the experimental ***:Extracellular amastigotes migrated to the epididymis posing as a potential major factor of parasite persistence and venereal transmission of *** infection in hamsters.

Pulmonary function studies in obese individuals have alerted the pathophysiological changes due to weight gain. However, these changes are not fully explained yet. Objective: To evaluate and analyze the pulmonary function of obese adults in the city of Manaus (AM, Brazil) and to correlate the parameters of spirometry with weight and BMI. Method: A descriptive cross-sectional study, in which pulmonary function of 22 adults with grade III obesity was evaluated pre and post bronchodilator administration, performed at the Adriano Jorge Hospital foundation—fHAJ. Results: Of the 22 patients evaluated, 6 were male and 16 were female;mean age was 37.1 ± 7.4 years, with a weight of 134.2 ± 28.6 kg and a BMI of 51.1 ± 9.4 kg/m2, corresponding to grade III obesity. Spirometry showed a reduction in values obtained from forced Vital Capacity (fVC), forced Expiratory Volume in the first second (fEV1) and Peak Expiratory flow (PEf) in relation to those predicted, with 23% of restrictive disorders. There were negative correlations between BMI and PEf, weight and fVC, weight and PEf. The P value for correlation of weight and fEV1 is not statistically significant. Conclusion: Restrictive and obstructive disorders are prevalent in the population with grade III obesity. Correlations between pulmonary function and BMI/weight were negative for this specific population.

This study evaluates the on use of crushed rocks(remineralizers)to increase soil fertility levels and which contributed to increase agricultural productivity,recovery of degraded areas,decontamination of water,and carbon *** use of these geological materials is part of the assumptions of rock technology and,indirectly,facilitates the achievement of sustainable development goals related to soil management,climate change,and the preservation of water *** over the past 50 years on silicate rocks focused on soil fertility management and agricultural *** recently,the combined use with microorganisms and organic correctives have shown positive results to mitigate soil degradation;to expand carbon sequestration and storage;and to contribute to the adsorption of contaminants from water and *** this article we show results obtained in several countries and we show that this technology can contribute to the sustainability of agriculture,as well as to reverse global *** mineral nutrients are released more slowly from these types of inputs,they remain in the soil for a longer time,stimulating the soil *** addition,they are a technology to soluble synthetic fertilizers replace,since the few nutrients derived from such inputs not consumed by plants are lost by leaching,contaminating groundwater and water *** addition,conventional methods rely heavily on chemical pesticides which cause damage to soil’s microfauna(responsible for the decomposition of organic matter and nutrient cycling)and the loss of organic carbon(in the form of dioxide),which is quickly dispersed in the *** rock powders are applied in natura,have long-lasting residual effects and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Scanning electrochemical microscopy(SECM)and scanning vibrating electrode technique(SVET)were used to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of the top surface of the 2098-T351 alloy welded by friction stir welding(fSW).The SVET technique was efficient in identifying the cathodic and anodic weld *** welding joint(WJ),which comprises the thermomechanically affected zone(TMAZ)and the stir zone(SZ),was cathodic relative to the heated affected zone(HAZ)and the base metal(BM).The reactivities of the welding joint at the advancing side(AS)and the retreating side(RS)were analyzed and compared using SECM technique in the competition mode by monitoring the dissolved oxygen as a redox mediator in 0.005 mol L^-1 NaCl *** RS was more electrochemically active than the AS,and these results were correlated with the microstructural features of the welded alloy.

Legume nodulation by rhizobia can supply crops with nitrogen and reduce environmental impacts caused by chemical fertilization. The soybean crop in Brazil is an impressive example of how biological N2 fixation can be employed with a plant species of high economic value. However, the development of more productive cultivars, along with the increasing global climatic changes demand agricultural practices to become more productive and yet more environmentally friendly. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) are highly beneficial to agriculture worldwide, acting in plant nutrition, protection, and growth stimulation. Azospirillum is, certainly, the most employed PGPR in the world, but little is known about its interaction with rhizobia, when both are applied to legume seeds. We have evaluated the co-inoculation of bradyrhizobia and azospirilla on soybean seeds under different soil and climate conditions in Brazil. Our results demonstrated that co-inoculation is efficient and beneficial to the crop, and promotes yield increases without adding any chemical N fertilizers even in soils where established populations of soybean bradyrhizobia exist. The strategy of co-inoculation thus represents a new biotechnological tool to improve soybean yield without adding any chemical N fertilizers, thus contributing to current practices of sustainability in agriculture.

Brown rot,caused by Monilinia spp.,is one of the most important postharvest diseases of stone fruits *** rot resistance in peach is a polygenic trait controlled by multiple genes with a small *** this study,we assessed the feasibility of genomic prediction(GP)for brown rot resistance in peach using eight contrasting methods(GBLUP,rrBLUP,BayesA,BayesB,BayesC,Bayesian Ridge Regression,Bayesian Lasso and RKHS).A testing panel of 38 cultivars/advanced selections and 288 f1 individuals from 27 pedigree-related breeding families with'Bolinha'and/or'Contender'or almond source of resistance was phenotyped over six seasons(2015 to 2020).GP models outperformed MAS models under fivefold cross validation,and low to moderate predictive accuracy(PA)was achieved by fitting GP model for wounded(W)(0.092−0.449)and low PA for non-wounded(NW)disease severity index(0.129−0.295).An alternative cross validation approach using disease severity index recorded in lab to predict field disease incidence(fDI)in unphenotyped accessions revealed moderate correlation(0.548−0.553).Genomic predicted breeding value distinguished accessions with low fDI from those with high *** results presented here demonstrated feasibility of incorporating GP in peach breeding.

We report here the activated carbon and cobalt hexacyanoferrate composite,which is applied as the electrode materials in symmetric supercapacitors containing a 1.0 M Na_(2)SO_(4) aqueous *** novel material combines high specific surface area and electrochemical stability of activated carbon with the redox properties of cobalt hexacyanoferrate,resulting in maximum specific capacitance of 329 f g^(-1) with large voltage working window of 2.0 *** studies indicated that cobalt hexacyanoferrate introduces important pseudocapacitive properties accounting for the overall charge-storage process,especially when If cobalt hexacyanoferrate improves the specific energy for more than 300%.In addition,to better understanding the energy storage process we also provided a careful investigation of the electrode materials under dynamic polarization conditions using the in situ Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron light Xray diffraction *** complementary findings were obtained in these *** believe that this novel electrode material is promising for applications regarding the energy-storage process in pseudocapacitors with long lifespan properties.
