The expression of the genes encoding the ferredoxin-thioredoxin system including the ferredoxin-thioredoxin reductase （fTR） genes ftrC and ftrV and the four different thioredoxin genes trxA （m-type; sir0623）, trxB （x-type; sir1139）, trxC （sll1057） and trxQ （y-type; sir0233） of the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 has been studied according to changes in the photosynthetic conditions. Experiments of light-dark transition indicate that the expression of all these genes except trxQ decreases in the dark in the absence of glucose in the growth medium. The use of two electron transport inhibitors, 3-（3,4-dichlorophenyl）-1,1-dimethylurea （DCMU） and 2,5-dibromo-3-methyl-6-isopropyl-p- benzoquinone （DBMIB）, reveals a differential effect on thioredoxin genes expression being trxC and trxQ almost unaffected, whereas trxA, trxB, and the ftr genes are down-regulated. In the presence of glucose, DCMU does not affect gene expression but DBMIB still does. Analysis of the single TrxB or TrxQ and the double TrxB TrxQ Synechocystis mutant strains reveal different functions for each of these thioredoxins under different growth conditions. finally, a Synechocystis strain was generated containing a mutated version of TrxB （TrxBC34S）, which was used to identify the potential in-vivo targets of this thioredoxin by a proteomic analysis.

Genes resistant to Aleurotrachelus socialis were transferred to the f 1 from the interspecific hybrid wild species of Manihot flabellifolia to *** and two advanced generations of backcrosses（BC 1 and BC 2）.We characterized the resistance of *** transferred to BC 2 parents（CW67-160,CW67-130,CW67-44）,MTAI-8（BC 1）,resistant（CMB9B-73） and susceptible（CMB9B-104） genotypes from contrasting pools,and resistant（MEcu-72） and susceptible（CMC-40） *** demography and biology were *** molecular markers associated with a phenotypic response of plant resistance were detected in segregating populations（BC 2）.Results showed that although female survival time was similar on all hosts,the lowest averages of longevity,fecundity and oviposition rate were observed in the resistant control MEcu- 72,only being significantly similar to the parent *** the BC 1 and BC 2 populations were compared,it was found that *** fecundity was eight times lower on CMB9B-73 progeny than on CW67-130,expressing the highest levels of resistance to the *** genotypes of CMB9A and CMB9B family had the best segregation.A total of 486 microsatellite primers were evaluated using bulked segregant analysis（BSA）,11 showed polymorphism between the contrasting pools and only one showed significant differences between resistant and susceptible *** conclusion,fecundity was the parameter that impacted most on the intrinsic rate of *** population growth.

This paper presents a novel algorithm for synthesizing animations of running water, such as water- falls and rivers, in the style of Chinese paintings, for applications such as cartoon making. All video frames are first registered in a common coordinate system, simultaneously segmenting the water from background and computing optical flow of the water. Taking artists＇ advice into account, we produce a painting structure to guide painting of brush strokes. flow lines are placed in the water following an analysis of variance of optical flow, to cause strokes to be drawn where the water is flowing smoothly, rather than in turbulent areas： this allows a few moving strokes to depict the trends of the water flows. A variety of brush strokes is then drawn using a template determined from real Chinese paintings. The novel contributions of this paper are： a method for painting structure generation for flows in videos, and a method for stroke placement, with the necessary temporal coherence.

The location of gold veins, due to a slanting magma dike intrusion in a cold rock, considering earth surface effects is determined. The 400°C and 500°C isotherm evolution resulting from this magma intrusion are studied considering a 2-D model. In this analysis, it is shown that the isotherm envelopes are the most important surfaces. Analytic solutions have been found as a function of the angle a between the dike and the vertical planes. The present results are more general than previous ones in the contest of vertical dikes. Magma convection has been considered in a simplified way. The agreement found that the results in the work the actual vein sites at the gold mine, called Colombia, in the auriferous area of El Callao, located 180 Km south of Ciudad Guayana in Bolivar state, Venezuela, are much better than in previous works.

We here present a detailed study of the ligand-receptor interactions between single and triple-helical strands of collagen and the α2A domain of integrin(α2A),providing valuable new insights into the mechanisms and dynamics of collagen-integrin binding at a sub-molecular *** occurrence of single and triple-helical strands of the collagen fragments was scrutinized with atom force microscopy(AfM)*** interactions of the triple-stranded fragments comparable to those of collagen can only be detected for the 42mer triple-helical collagen-like peptide under study(which contains 42 amino acid residues per strand)by solid phase assays as well as by surface plasmon resonance(SPR)***,changes in NMR signals during titration and characteristic saturation transfer difference(STD)NMR signals are also detectable whenα2A is added to a solution of the 21mer single-stranded collagen *** dynamics(MD)simulations employing different sets of force field parameters were applied to study the interaction between triple-helical or single-stranded collagen fragments withα*** is remarkable that even single-stranded collagen fragments can form various complexes withα2A showing significant differences in the complex stability with identical *** results of MD simulations are in agreement with the signal alterations in our NMR experiments,which are indicative of the formation of weak complexes between single-stranded collagen andα2A in *** results provide useful information concerning possible interactions ofα2A with small collagen fragments that are of relevance to the design of novel therapeutic A-domain inhibitors.

Background: Evidence indicating the limited amount of hands-on experience in the current era of medical training has raised concern regarding students’ development and potential deficiencies in the performance of basic procedural skills. Studies have demonstrated the value of surgical workshops for medical students;however evaluation of improved student performance during future clerkships or residencies has yet to be assessed. We initiated and evaluated a resident-led surgical skills workshop for students through the Department of Dermatology. Methods: Participants received instructions on surgical tools/techniques followed by hands-on practice. Anonymous surveys administered to 24 medical and physician assistant students assessed their skill level, confidence level, and likelihood of using surgical skills in future practice preand post-workshop using a 1 - 5 Likert scale. Overall experience was also assessed. Non-parametric bivariate tests were used for analysis to account for non-normal distribution of the data. Results: There was a statistically significant change in skill (p = 0.0001) and confidence (p = 0.0001) level post workshop. There was no significant difference in utility. There were also no statistically significant differences based on the year of medical student training, medical student versus physician assistant student responses, or number of procedures performed prior to the workshop. Estimated cost per participant was $5.65. Conclusions: Research supports our finding that workshop learning experiences increase students’ ability to perform common procedural skills, their confidence, and desire to practice such skills. further studies are necessary to determine the impact of these skills workshops on long-term clinical performance in future clerkships and residencies.

Objective: To assess the antiangiogcnic activity of ***: Different fractions of fenugreek crude extracts were prepared and their antiangiogenic properties were assessed using the ex vivo rat aortic ring assay and in vivo chicken embryo chorioallantoic membrane(CAM) assay. They were investigated for their direct cytotoxic activity in the MCf7 cells using the MTT ***: The ethanol extract showed 100% inhibition of blood vessel outgrowth from primary tissue explants in the rat aortic ring assay at a concentration of 100μg/mL while the other extracts did not show significant antiangiogenic activity. The ethanol extract was therefore investigated at varying concentrations and exhibited a significant dose dependent effect. The CAM assay coincided with the results of the aortic ring assay as ethanol extract showed a significant inhibition of formation of new blood vessels. The extracts only showed anti-proliferative activity at the highest concentration of 400μg/mL towards MCf7 breast cancer cell lines in the MTT ***: findings of the both assays confirmed that the ethanol extract inhibited vascularization significantly. further studies on the ethanol extract would be beneficial in isolating the active ingredient responsible for the inhibition.
