AIM To enhance the clinical utility of electrogastrography(EGG), which has been recorded since 1922, but is clinically *** An innovative method to salvage the promise of EGG is proposed by introducing a preliminary procedure, while maintaining the electrodes, standardized equipment, and signal processing utilized in the well-established EGG testing of today. The proposed enhanced EGG(EEGG) protocol involves swallowing an ingestible capsule containing miniature electronic oscillator embedded in an expandable, self-disintegratable, biocompatible pseudobesoar residing in the stomach for the duration of the test. The benefits of the proposed approach are outlined, tested and discussed in details. RESULTS Experiments were performed on eight mongrel dogs(6f, 4M, 23.8 ± 3.3 kg). four were administered an active EEGG capsule, while the rest were given a deactivated(battery removed) capsule. Pharmacologically facilitated gastric motility revealed a significant(P force transducers implanted directly on the stomach, and the motility indices obtained by EEGG. A particular emphasis was made on preserving standard EGG-related hardware and software in order to facilitate the introduction of the proposed EEGG in environments which already utilize standard EGG testing. Theexpanded intragastric pseudobezoar containing the miniature electronic oscillator was retained during the tests, and could be disintegrated on demand. CONCLUSION Enhancing standard EGG by an ingestible, selfexpanding and self-disintegrating pseudobesoar containing a miniature electronic oscillator can be an important avenue for clinical applicability of this test.

The gold standard for curative treatment of locally advanced rectal cancer involves radical resection with a total mesorectal excision(TME). TME is the most effective treatment strategy to reduce local recurrence and improve survival outcomes regardless of the surgical platform used. However, there are associated morbidities, functional consequences, and quality of life(QoL) issues associated with TME; these risks must be considered during the modern-day multidisciplinary treatment for rectal cancer. This has led to the development of new surgical techniques to improve patient, oncologic, and QoL outcomes. In this work, we review the evolution of TME to the transanal total mesorectal excision(TaTME) through more traditional minimally invasive platforms. The review the development, safety and feasibility, proposed benefits and risks of the procedure, implementation and education models, and future direction for research and implementation of the TaTME in colorectal surgery. While satisfactory short-term results have been reported, the procedure is in its infancy, and long term outcomes and definitive results from controlled trials are *** evidence for safety and feasibility accumulates,structured training programs to standardize teaching,training, and safe expansion will aid the safe spread of the TaTME.

Agroforests are man-made ecosystems in which crops are associated with a main perennial species like Robusta Coffee Agroforests (RCAs), which is counted among the main modes of perennial crops production in Cameroon. Despite the rich ecosystem services provided, the diversity of Associated Species (AS) found in these RCAs and the structure of the landscapes they form remain little known in Cameroon. The current study aimed to inventory AS and characterize the structure of RCAs in four sites (Ayos, Malantouen, Melong and Nkongsamba) belonging to three robusta coffee production basins in Cameroon. A systematic inventory with dendrometric measurements of the wood AS and coffee trees was carried out on 120 one-hectare plot unit, i.e. 30 plots per site. The results showed that 102 AS belonging to 83 genera and 41 families were identified in these RCAs. The RCAs of Ayos in the dense rainforest zone with bimodal rainfall pattern were the most diverse with 71 species, followed by those of Melong and Nkongsamba with respectively 39 and 33 species respectively in the dense rainforest zone with monomodal rainfall pattern, and Malantouen with 33 species in the high savannahs of the west. Structurally, average coffee tree and AS densities founded ranged from 1208 - 1456 plants/ha and 71 - 214 stems/ha and those of basal area from 7.29 - 17.40 m2/ha for coffee trees and 7.97 - 16.14 m2/ha for AS in function of site. Basis on the vertical stratification, the proportion of the 3 - 6 m stratum, which is mainly represented by introduced AS, varied from 38% - 62% depending on the site. The results of this study showed that RCAs contribute to the conservation of plant biodiversity, given the specific richness identified in these ecosystems.

This paper presents a selected survey covering the advances of fault diagnosis and fault tolerant control using data driven techniques. A brief summary of the general developments in fault detection and diagnosis for industrial processes is given, which is then followed by discussions on the widely used data driven and knowledge-based techniques. A successful application example is also given, which deals with faults caused by the misplacement of control loop set points and several areas of potential future directions are included in the paper.

Introduction There is a paucity of clinical data on pediatric epigastric hernias despite them accounting for up to 6%of all hernia repairs in *** aimed to provide additional data to supplement those 117 cases of a recent systematic review and to further clarify the role of ultrasound in diagnosing pediatric epigastric *** We retrospectively included all 60 patients treated for epigastric hernias in children in two tertiary pediatric surgical departments within 12 *** were tested via point-biserial correlation *** Epigastric hernias primarily affected preschool children with a median age of 39 *** vast majority of patients(88%)presented with swelling that was occasionally(30%)accompanied by *** defects could be found during clinical examination in 45%of patients with a median size of 5 mm(95%CI 3 to 10).Smaller defects were less likely to be palpable(r=-0.44,95%CI-0.08 to-0.7,p=0.021).Likewise,ultrasound was used more frequently with smaller fascial defect sizes(r=-0.51,95%Cl-0.16 to-0.74,p=0.007).Laparoscopic repair was used in 11 patients(19%)and more often(4/11)in combination with another simultaneous procedure than open repair(11/48).Conclusions Epigastric hernias are primarily a condition of the preschool *** can be beneficial if the diagnosis cannot be made clinically;otherwise,it is abdicable if it does not change the management of the patient's epigastric *** repairs might be beneficial for children with multiple defects or simultaneous procedures.

AIM:To evaluate bacteriocinogeny in short-term highdose indomethacin administration with or without probiotic Escherichia coli Nissle 1917(EcN) in experimental ***:Twenty-four pigs entered the study:Group A(controls),Group B(probiotics alone),Group C(indomethacin alone) and Group D(probiotics and indomethacin).EcN(3.5 × 1010 bacteria/d for 14 d) and/or indomethacin(15 mg/kg per day for 10 d) were administrated *** smears before and smears from the small and large intestine were taken from all *** production was determined with 6 different indicator strains;all strains were polymerase chain reaction tested for the presence of 29 individual bacteriocinencoding ***:The general microbiota profile was rather uniform in all animals but there was a broad diversity in coliform bacteria(parallel genotypes A,B1,B2 and D found).In total,637 bacterial strains were tested,mostly Escherichia coli(***).There was a higher incidence of *** strains among samples taken from the jejunum and ileum compared to that of the colon and rectum indicating predominance of *** strains in the large *** was found in 24/77(31%) before and in 155/560(28%) isolated bacteria at the end of the ***,13 individual bacteriocin types(out of 29 tested) were identified among investigated *** of four *** genotypes was equally distributed in all groups of *** strains,with majority of genotype A(ranging from 81% to 88%).The following types of bacteriocins were most commonly revealed:colicins Ia/Ib(44%),microcin V(18%),colicin E1(16%) and microcin H47(6%).There was a difference in bacteriocinogeny between control group A(52/149,35%) and groups with treatment at the end of the study:B:31/122(25%,P = 0.120);C:43/155(28%,P = 0.222);D:29/134(22%,P = 0.020).There was a significantly lower prevalence of colicin Ib,microcins H47 and V(probiotics group,P < 0.001),colicin E1 and microcin H47(indomethacin

As well as world class fe and REE resources the Bayan Obo mineral deposits also hosts significant niobium resources(estimated as 2.2 Mt Nb with an average grade of 0.13 wt% Nb).Niobium in this study is primarily hosted in aeschynite-(Ce) and(Nd),but with subsidiary amounts of pyrochlore,fergusonite-(Ce),fersmite and *** we report on the paragenetic and textural setting of aeschynite,pyrochlore and fergusonite in the main ore bodies and in a carbonatite *** in a carbonatite sample is hosted in a phase tentatively(due to significant Ca,Mn and Ti contents) identified as fergusonite-(Ce).Aeschynite occurs overgrowing foliation in banded ores,in fractures and vugs in aegirine-rich rocks and in calcite *** composition in all settings is similar,but some examples in banded ores develop significant zonation in Y,Th and the REE,inferred to relate to buffering of halogen acid species to low levels by dissolution and fluoritisation of calcite,and the preferential precipitation of LREE from solution due to lower mineral solubility products compared to the *** lower in total concentration the ratios of REE in pyrochlore are similar to those of aeschynite and suggest the same metal *** crystallisation of pyrochlore probably relates to growth in paragenetic settings where carbonates had already been eliminated and hence the buffering of f-species activities in the hydrothermal fluid was *** aeschynite and pyrochlore show evidence of *** alteration of aeschynite resulted in leaching of A-site cations(Ca,REE,Th) and Nb,addition of fe,and ultimately replacement by Ba-Ti phases(baotite and bafertisite).Secondary,metamictisation enhanced,possibly supergene alteration of pyrochlore resulted in hydration,leaching of A-site cations leading to the development of lattice vacancies and increases in *** presence of hydrothermal Nb resources at Bayan Obo suggests there may be potential for further Nb discoveries in the area,
