Vigorous,but differential mononuclear cell response of cirrhotic patients to bacterial ligands

AiM： to study the role of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria in the pathogenesis of liver injury, specifically the activation of inflammatory mediators. MEtHODS： Peripheral blood mononuclear cells of 20 out-patients were studied, 10 of them with cirrhosis,Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated and exposed to lipopolysaccharide or lipoteichoic acid. CD14, toll-like receptor 2 and 4 expression was determined by flow cytometry, and tumor necrosis factor （tNf） α, interleukin （1L）-1β, iL-6, iL-12 and iL-10 secretion in su- pernatants was determined by ELiSA. RESULtS： Higher CD14, toll-like receptor 2 and 4 expression was observed in peripheral blood mononudear cells from cirrhotic patients, （P 〈 0.01, P 〈 0.006, P 〈 0.111） respectively. Lipopolysaccharide and lipoteichoic acid induced a further increase in CD14 expression （P 〈 0.111 lipopolysaccharide, P 〈 0.013 lipoteichoic acid）, and a decrease in toll-like receptor 2 （P 〈 0.008 lipopolysaccharide, P 〈 0.008 lipoteichoic acid） and toll-like receptor 4 （P 〈 0.008 lipopolysaccharide, P 〈 0.028 li- poteichoic acid） expression. With the exception of tNfα, absolute cytokine secretion of peripheral blood mononuclear cells was lower in cirrhotic patients under nonexposure conditions （P 〈 0.070 iL-6, P 〈 0.009 iL-1]5, P 〈 0.022 iL-12）. Once exposed to lipopolysaccharide or lipoteichoic acid, absolute cytokine secretion of peripheral blood mononuclear cells was similar in cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic patients, determining a more vigorous response in the former （P 〈 0.005 tNfα, iL-1β, iL-6, iL-2 and iL-10 lipopolysaccharide; P 〈 0.037 tNfα; P 〈 0.006 iL-113; P 〈 0.005 iL-6; P 〈 0.007 iL-12; P 〈 0.014 iL-10 lipoteichoic acid）. Response of peripheral blood mononuclear cells was more intense after lipopolysaccharide than after lipoteichoic acid exposure. Biomimetic Control of Mechanical Systems Equipped with Musculotendon Actuators

this paper addresses the problem of modelling, control, and simulation of a mechanical system actuated by an agonist-antagonist musculotendon subsystem. Contraction dynamics is given by case 1 of Zajac＇s model. Saturated semi positive proportional-derivative-type controllers with switching as neural excitation inputs are proposed. Stability theory of switched system and SOStOOLS, which is a sum of squares optimization toolbox of Matlab, are used to determine the stability of the obtained closed-loop system. to corroborate the obtained theoretical results numerical simulations are carried out. As additional contribution, the discussed ideas are applied to the biomimetic control of a DC motor, i.e., the position control is addressed assuming the presence of musculotendon actuators. Real-experiments corroborate the expected results.

in simulations of fluidized beds using computational fluid dynamics （CfD）, the description of gas-solid flow hydrodynamics relies on a drag model to account for the momentum transfer between gas and solid phases. Although several studies of drag models have been published, there have been few investigations of the application of lattice Boltzmann method （LBM）-based drag models to bubbling fluidized bed simu- lations. in the present study, a comprehensive comparison of empirical and LBM-based drag models was carried out to assess the performance of these models during simulations of gas-solid flow hydrodynam- ics in a bubbling fluidized bed. A CfD model using the MfiX code based on the Eulerian-Eulerian approach and the kinetic theory of granular flow was used to simulate a 2D bubbling fluidized bed with Geldart B particles. the simulation results were validated by comparison with experimental data. Statistical anal- ysis of the results shows that LBM-based drag models can reliably model gas-solid flow hydrodynamics in a bubbling fluidized bed.

Quantum information entropies of the eigenstates for the Pschl-teller-like potential

Shannon entropy for lower position and momentum eigenstates of Ptschl-teller-like potential is evaluated. Based on the entropy densities demonstrated graphically, we note that the wave through of the position information entropy density p （x） moves right when the potential parameter V1 increases and its amplitude decreases. However, its wave through moves left with the increase in the potential parameter 丨V2丨. Concerning the momentum information entropy density p（p）, we observe that its amplitude increases with increasing potential parameter V1, but its amplitude decreases with increasing丨V2丨. the Bialynicki-Birula-Mycielski （BBM） inequality has also been tested for a number of states. Moreover, there exist eigenstates that exhibit squeezing in the momentum information entropy. finally, we note that position information entropy increases with V1, but decreases with 丨V2丨, However, the variation of momentum information entropy is contrary to that of the position information entropy.

Precipitation analysis of as-cast HK40 steel after isothermal aging

As-cast HK40 steel was aged at 700, 800, or 900℃ for times as long as 2000 h. Microstructural characterization showed that the primary M_7C_3 carbide network contained a substantial content of manganese, in agreement with the microsegregation of manganese calculated by thermo-Calc using the Scheil–Gulliver module. the dissolution of primary carbides caused the solute supersaturation of austenite and subsequent precipitation of fine M_(23)C_6 carbides in the austenite matrix for aged specimens. During prolonged aging, the carbide size increased with increasing time because of the coarsening process. A time–temperature–precipitation diagram for M_(23)C_6 carbides was calculated using the thermo-CalcPRiSMA software; this diagram showed good agreement with the experimental growth kinetics of precipitation. the fine carbide precipitation caused an increase in hardness; however, the coarsening process of carbides promoted a decrease in hardness. Nanoindentation tests of the austenite matrix indicated an increase in ductility with increasing aging time.

tiO2 nanofibers decorated with Pt and Pd nanoparticles have been synthesized and studied in various photocatalytic processes. Excellent photocatalytic behavior in the decomposition of organic dyes in water, degradation of organic stains on the surface of flexible freestanding cellulose/catalyst composite films and in generation of hydrogen from ethanol using both suspended and immobilized catalysts are demonstrated. the performance of the nanofiber-based tiO2 materials is competitive with and in some cases outperforms--their conventional nanoparticle-based counterparts. in all cases, Pd-decorated tiO2 nanoparticles and nanofibers proved to be more efficient than their Pt-based counterparts, which could be explained on the basis of the formation of nano-sized Schottky interfaces at the contacts between tiO2 and metal nanoparticles. the feasibility of forming cellulose/catalyst composites provides a novel way of utilizing photocatalyst materials in large-area coatings and freestanding films.

Obtaining the Minimum Lethal Dose against <i>fasciola hepatica in Vitro</i>Using Plant Extract Hexanes with fasciolicide Activity and toxicity Evaluation on CD1 Male Mice

fascioliasis is a parasitic disease of worldwide distribution affecting mainly cattle and sheep. its importance lies in the economic losses it produces in the livestock industry. its control is carried out by using a chemical fasciolicide showing resistance problems and environmental contamination. Looking for an alternative control for this disease the present study was aimed at determining the hexane anti-fasciola hepatica in the in vitro effect of some plant extracts and the minimum lethal dose of the mentioned extracts. All selected plants were tested in vitro at concentrations of 500, 250, 125 and 50 mg/L):Achilleamillefolium (plumajillo), Artemisiaabsinthium (wormwood), Artemisia mexicana (estafiate), Castelatortuousa (chaparroamargo), Chenopodiumgraveolens (epazote de zorrillo), Gymnospermaglutinosum (popote) Justicia spicigera (muicle), Limpia critridora (cedron), Lippiagraveolens (oregano), Menthapiperita (Mint), Populus alba (alamo) and thymusvulgaris (thyme). Subsequently proceeded to perform a toxicity study with these fractions in CD1 male mice 10-13 weeks of age, forming groups of 3-5 animals they were administered a single oral dose being (5 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg, 2500 mg/kg and 5000 mg/kg) and were kept under observation 20 days, later were sacrificed and a kidney and liver histology was performed, finding the safety of the extracts. to perform the toxicity study with these fractions, groups of five CD1 male-mice were formed, they were treated with oral doses of 5, 50, 500, 2500 and 5000 mg/kg, administered with a cannule. All mice were kept under observation for 20 days. finally they were sacrificed to perform histology of the kidney and liver in search of possible side effects. Results show that none of the extracts exhibited that fasciolocide activity for mice CD1 even at the highest dose thereforefinding the safety of the extracts.

Primary Characterization of a Novel Soymilk-Cashew fermented with an improving of its Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Contents

Cashew nut (Anacardium occidental) milk was included as a functional ingredient in soybean (Glycine max L.) milk at 20/80% and was fermented comparatively to commercial yogurt starters by two strains tC6 and A4 (recently isolated from two ivorian highly flavored neglected traditional staple foods (beer and garlic)) identified as Weissella paramesenteroides and Enterococcus faecalis, after the screening of their probiotic, antioxydant and anti-inflammatory potentialities, respectively. the primary characterization of these plant-milks showed a strong improvement in their sensory, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory abilities. While tC6 from traditional beer tchapalo increases anti-inflammatory activity by almost eighteen times, A4 isolated from garlic increases antioxidant activity by two times. Due to their aromatic and organosensory potentialities certainly, milks L138, L180 and 130 fermented respectively by the combination of tC6 and A4, tC4 alone and A4 alone were the most appreciated than the plant-milk fermented by the two strains of commercial yogurt. these probiotics, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory plant-milks should be further characterized in terms of their biological activities and tested in animal models to confirm their nutrition-health claims.

initial Study of Electrospinning PCL/PLLA Blends

the process of electrospinning is considered one of the most promising methods for the fabrication of poly- mer nanofibers. this essentially consists of applying a high electric field, which causes stretching of the polymer which exits through a capillary. Among the numerous applications of this process, electrospinning allows the fabrication of semiconductor and conductive nanofibers from mixtures or solutions, which have great potential for applications in sensors and the fabrication of scaffolds for cell growth. the aim of this work was to analyze the properties of the blend, produces by the electrospinning of the PCL and PLLA solu- tion, with the focus to generate a promissory scaffold. PCL is a semi-crystalline aliphatic polymer that has a slower degradation rate 12 - 24 months. it has a low glass transition temperature at –60?C, a melting tem-perature at about 60?C, and a high thermal stability. Properties of PLA depend on the component isomers, processing temperature, annealing time and molecular weight. thus were used PCL, from Aldrich, with Mw of 80,000 g/mol, and PLLA, sintered in laboratory, with Mw of 240,000 g/mol, were dissolved in chloroform (CHCl3, Merck) and acetone (Synth) by stirring for 6 hours. the solution was electrospinning for 1 hour us- ing the equipment made in the laboratory, the voltage used was 13 kv, the rate of 0.5 ml/h and an approxi- mate distance from the tip of the needle to the collector of 12 cm. the morphology of the samples was ob- served by images made with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and also was analyzed by ft-iR and DSC.
