Numerical Simulation of Bubble formation at a Single Orifice in Gas-fluidized Beds with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics and finite Volume Coupled Method

A coupled method describing gas–solid two-phase flow has been proposed to numerically study the bubble formation at a single orifice in gas-fluidized *** particles are traced with smoothed particle hydrodynamics,whereas gas phase is discretized by finite volume *** force,gas pressure gradient,and volume fraction are used to couple the two *** effect of injection velocities,particle sizes,and particle densities on bubble growth is analyzed using the coupled *** simulation results,obtained for two-dimensional geometries,include the shape and diameter size of a bubble as a function of time;such results are compared with experimental data,previous numerical results,and other approximate model predictions reported in the ***,the flow profiles of gas and particle phases and the temperature distribution by the heat transfer model around the forming bubble are also *** results show that the coupled method efficiently describes of the bubble formation in fluidized *** proposed method is applicable for solving gas–solid two-phase flow in fluidization.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of chronic mild stress(CMS) on the emergence of gastric ulcers and possible modulation by octreotide,a synthetic somatostatin analogue. METHODS:Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to nine different unpredictable random stress procedures for 21 d,a multifactorial interactional animal model for *** was administered daily for 21 d at two dose levels(50 and 90μg/kg)before exposure to stress ***-and microscopical assessments were made,in addition to quantification of plasma corticosterone and gastric mucosal inflammatory,oxidative stress, and apoptotic biomarkers. RESULTS:Exposure to CMS elevated plasma corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),an event that was accompanied by gastric lesions(6.4±0.16 mm,P=0.01) and confirmed ***,the insult elevated gastric mucosal lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nmol/g tissue,P=0.001),tumor necrosis factor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,Pfurthermore,in animals exposed to CMS,octreotide restored plasma corticosterone(61%and 71%from CMS,P=0.002)at both dose *** beneficial effects were associated with a remarkable suppression of gastric lesions(38%and 9%from CMS,P=0.01)and reversal of derangements in gastric mucosa. CONCLUSION:The current investigation provides evidence that exposure to CMS induces gastric ulceration, which was alleviated by administration of octreotide possibly possessing antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,and anti-apoptotic actions.

Regulatory T cells （Tregs） expressing forkhead/winged-helix transcription factor foxp3 represent a distinct lineage of lymphocytes which play a central role in protecting the host from autoimmune diseases. However, Tregs also pose a major problem to anti-tumor immunity. Growing body of evidence from both laboratory and clinical investigations has demonstrated that expansion and accumulation of these immunosuppressive cells correlates with advanced tumor growth and predicts poor disease prognosis. How tumor development subverts normal self-tolerance function of Tregs thereby thwarts host anti-tumor immunity remains elusive. This review will discuss our current knowledge in understanding the dynamics and plasticity of foxp3~ Treg activation and induction in tumor bearing hosts and their interaction with various antigen presenting cells （APCs） in tumor microenvironment leading to the establishment of active local and systemic immune suppression. In the final essay of this series the gaps between biology and engineering are examined, and methods are suggested for crossing them. Creativity is seen as the essential, and TRIZ （the Russian Theory of Inventive Problem Solving） is recommended as the best set of methods both for stimulating creativity and for solving technical problems. When the catalogue of Inventive Principles of TRIZ is used to bring biology and technology to the same level of detail, the comparison shows that the similarity is only about 12%. The differences largely reside in the reliance of energy as a controlling parameter in conventional technology and the replacement of energy by information in biological systems. Although we might be moving slowly in this direction, a numerically based comparison such as this should provide more impetus.

The innate immune response is triggered by a variety of pathogens, including viruses, and requires rapid induction of typeⅠ?interferons (IfN), such as IfNβ and IfNα. IfN induction occurs when specific pathogen motifs bind to specific cellular receptors. In non-professional immune, virally-infected cells, IfN induction is essentially initiated after the binding of dsRNA structures to TLR3 receptors or to intracytosolic RNA helicases, such as RIG-Ⅰ/MDA5. This leads to the recruitment of specific adaptors, such as TRIf for TLR3 and the mitochondrial-associated IPS-1/VISA/MAVS/CARDIf adapter protein for the RNA helicases, and the ultimate recruitment of kinases, such as MAPKs, the canonical IKK complex and the TBK1/IKKε kinases, which activate the transcription factors ATf-2/ c-jun, Nf-κB and IRf3, respectively. The coordinated action of these transcription factors leads to induction of IfN and of pro-inflammatory cytokines and to the establishment of the innate immune response. HCV can cleave both the adapters TRIf and IPS-1/VISA/MAVS/ CARDIf through the action of its NS3/4A protease. This provokes abrogation of the induction of the IfN and cytokine pathways and favours viral propagation and presumably HCV chronic infection.

With the rapid growth in the availability of digital health-related data,there is a great demand for the utilization of intelligent information systems within the healthcare *** systems can manage and manipulate this massive amount of health-related data and encourage different decision-making *** can also provide various sustainable health services such as medical error reduction,diagnosis acceleration,and clinical services quality *** intensive care unit(ICU)is one of the most important hospital ***,there are limited rooms and resources in most *** times of seasonal diseases and pandemics,ICUs face high admission *** line with this increasing number of admissions,determining health risk levels has become an essential and imperative *** creates a heightened demand for the implementation of an expert decision support system,enabling doctors to accurately and swiftly determine the risk level of ***,this study proposes a fuzzy logic inference system built on domain-specific knowledge graphs,as a proof-of-concept,for tackling this healthcare-related *** system employs a combination of two sets of fuzzy input parameters to classify health risk levels of new admissions to *** proposed system implemented utilizes MATLAB fuzzy Logic Toolbox via several experiments showing the validity of the proposed system.

Prediction of Soil Depth from Digital Terrain Data by Integrating Statistical and Visual Approaches

Information about the spatial distribution of soil attributes is indispensable for many land resource management applications; however, the ability of soil maps to supply such information for modern modeling tools is questionable. The objectives of this study were to investigate the possibility of predicting soil depth using some terrain attributes derived from digital elevation models （DEMs） with geographic information systems （GIS） and to suggest an approach to predict other soil attributes. Soil depth was determined at 652 field observations over the A1-Muwaqqar Watershed （70 km2） in Jordan. Terrain attributes derived from 30-m resolution DEMs were utilized to predict soil depth. The results indicated that the use of multiple linear regression models within small watershed subdivisions enabled the prediction of soil depth with a difference of 50 cm for 77% of the field observations. The spatial distribution of the predicted soil depth was visually coincided and had good correlations with the spatial distribution of the classes amalgamating three terrain attributes, slope steepness, slope shape, and compound topographic index. These suggested that the modeling of soil-landscape relationships within small watershed subdivisions using the three terrain attributes was a promising approach to predict other soil attributes.

The Salton Sea is a terminal lake located in the deepest point of the topographically closed Salton Trough in southeastern California. It is currently the largest lake in area in the state. It was created by a flooding event along the Colorado River in 1905-1907, similar to the way historical floods over past centuries created ephemeral incarnations of ancient Lake Cahuilla in the same location. Its position at the center of today＇s Imperial Valley, a hot and arid locale home to some of the most productive irrigated agricultural lands in the United States, has ensured its ongoing survival through a delicate balance between agricultural runoff, its principal form of input, and vast evaporation losses. Nevertheless, its parallel role as a recreational resource and important wildlife habitat, established over its first century of existence, is threatened by increasing salinity decreasing water quality, and reduced water allocations from the Colorado River that feeds the valley＇s agriculture. The Salton Sea faces an increasingly uncertain future that will be influenced by reduced water imports from the Colorado River, demands for additional water sources to support farming and energy industries in the valley, and needs to stabilize the lake salinity, maintain recreational resources, and preserve what have become important ecosystems and wildlife habitats.
