The blood count is an easily achievable routine exam and will it have specif.cs in the event of.a neonatal bacterial inf.ction? Hence, the present study with the objective of.determining the prof.le of.the hemogram of.newborns hospitalized f.r early bacterial neonatal inf.ction. Material and methods: This was a cross-sectional study that took place f.om June 27 to September 03, 2016 in the neonatology department of.teaching hospital Gabriel Toure. Included were all neonates hospitalized f.r early neonatal bacterial inf.ction (ENBI) and who had a blood count. Results: We included 227 patients, 64.8% of.whom were premature. The sex ratio was 1.4. The inf.nts were less than 24 hours old in 93.6% of.the cases. The mean hemoglobin level was 16.435 g/dl [8.8 - 22.26]. Erythrocytopenia was f.und in 18.5% of.cases. Anemia was present in 17% of.newborns. The average leukocyte was 15.228·103/mm3 [1.4 - 72]. Hyperleukocytosis and leukopenia were f.und in 12.32% and 6.6% respectively. Neutropenia and lymphopenia were present in 14.5% and 30.8%. There was a correlation between leukocytosis of.negative blood cultures (23/27) (p = 0.030). f.r Neutrophils, neutrophilia was more observed in term neonates and neutropenia in premature inf.nts (p = 0.03). Monocytosis was present in 13.6% of.cases. One quarter (25.5%) of.newborns had thrombocytopenia. Conclusion: Hematological variations did not allow a specif.c prof.le of.newborns hospitalized f.r early neonatal bacterial inf.ction to be identif.ed.

The purpose of.this study was to investigate the clinical and therapeutic aspects of.peritonitis by perf.ration of.gastric and duodenal ulcer. This was a retrospective and descriptive study over 8 years (2010-2018) which allowed to collect 54 cases of.peptic ulcer. Included in the study were all patients with conf.rmed gastroduodenal perf.ration on histology or laparotomy. We collected 54 cases of.peptic ulcer perf.rated s. The age group of.30 - 49 years was the majority. The male sex was dominant with 90.7% of.cases;the clinical picture was dominated by abdominal contracture associated with pain in 74.07% of.cases. X-ray of.the abdomen without preparation (AWP) revealed in 87.03% of.cases of.pneumoperitoneum. The perf.ration was in 68.52% of.cases on the gastric antrum and in 31.48% on the duodenum. The surgical procedure used was the bank of.excision, and a suture reinf.rcement epiploic in 68.52% of.cases, a simple suture made in 31.48% of.cases, the disease was marked by a f.stula (1.90%) and mortality was 5.55% of.cases. The gastroduodenal ulcer perf.ration is potentially serious and responsible peritonitis whose surgical treatment involves the peritoneal toilet and sutures the puncture.

We conducted a retrospective study that included patients with erythrocyte and hemolytic pathology justif.ing a splenectomy and patients presenting splenic trauma f.r which hemostasis splenectomy is required. We perf.rmed 27 total splenectomy in which 26 are by laparotomy (92.86%) and 1 by laparoscopy (3.57%). A partial splenectomy was perf.rmed by laparoscopy. The morbidity was marked by 2 cases of.inf.ctious syndrome and 1 case severe anemia. The mortality was 7.14% (n = 2). Splenectomy is part of.the therapeutic arsenal f.r benign or malignant hematological disorders that constitute the main indication f.r elective splenectomy. Splenectomy was one of.the most common operations in abdominal surgery. During the past decade, an increased rate of.late complications, specially septic and thromboembolic complications are well documented. The risk is related to the indication of.splenectomy, and is less than 1% in adults without immunodef.ciency. However, these overwhelming postsplenectomy inf.ctions are associated with a high mortality rate. The best treatment of.these inf.ctions is preventive measures which are based on vaccination and education of.asplenic patients.

Objective: Pediatric jaundice is caused by various conditions. Although some data is available on this issue, data f.om Mali is insuf.icient. The present retrospective observational study was an attempt to determine the etiology of.pediatric jaundice in the pediatric department of.Gabriel Touré teaching hospital in Bamako, Mali. Methods: We reviewed all pediatric patients with jaundice who were hospitalized and treated in this department during January 1 to December 31, 2016 (n = 168). Result: Pediatric jaundice patients accounted for 1.88% of the hospitalized patients, with median age of 6 years and male/female ratio being 1.6. Infectious, cholestatic, and hemolytic jaundice accounted for 75%, 11% and 10%, respectively. Malaria and sickle cell disease accounted for 67% and 9%, respectively. Hepatomegaly and splenomegaly were observed in 49 (29%) and 23 (13.7%) patients, respectively. Of 168, 9 patients died. Conclusion: Infectious jaundice, especially jaundice due to malaria, was the most frequent. However, variety of etiologies was observed, of which the practitioners should be awaref.nt-f.mily:Verdana;">. The observation presented here may become f.ndamental data in health-policy making in this area.

Objective: To study the place of simulation in the learning of newborn resuscitation among seventh year medical students at the University Hospital of Bogodogo in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Material and Method: Our study took place in the obstetrical gynaecology department of the University Hospital Centre of Bogodogo (UTH-B) from 15 December 2018 to 15 March 2019. We randomly selected two groups of students, with no stimulation. We recorded a theoretical questionnaire to all students at the beginning and then carried out two stimulation sessions at 1 month intervals in the competence laboratory of the National School of Public Health. Then we evaluated the theoretical and practical progress of the students over time. We analyzed our data through the Epi info software in version 3.5.1. Results: The two simulation sessions positively influenced the theoretical knowledge of neonatal intensive care for 7th year students (p = 0.0391). Neonatal resuscitation management by students is better from one simulation session to another with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.0001). Conclusion: Our study of 7th grade students showed the importance of this tool in their practical training at the University Hospital of Bogodogo. Advocacy must be organized for its acquisition in the university hospitals of Burkina Faso.

Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. [Walp.]) in one of.the main grain legumes contributing to f.od security and poverty alleviation in Sub-Saharan Af.ica. To control the highly damaging legume pod borer Maruca vitrata f., transgenic cowpea lines expressing the insecticidal Cry1Ab Bt protein were developed. In this study, we evaluated the impact of.Cry1Ab transgene expression on the susceptibility of.f.ur cowpea lines (named IT97K-T, IT98K-T, Gourgou-T and Naf.-T) and their respective non-transgenic near isogenic lines (IT97K, IT98K, Gourgou and Naf.) to Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus (CABMV) in greenhouse conditions. In a preliminary quality control test by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, the presence of.Cry1Ab protein in transgenic seed lots ranged f.om 59% to 72%, with no signif.cant dif.erences among the lines (χ2 = 3.26;p = 0.35). Upon virus inoculation, all cowpea lines exhibited mosaic symptoms with similar severity between 7- and 11-day post-inoculation. No signif.cant dif.erences were observed in symptom severity. Signif.cant dif.erences were f.und between cowpea lines f.r time of.symptom onset, virus accumulation in plants and days to 50% f.owering. However, while comparing pairs of.transgenic lines and corresponding non-transgenic lines, virus accumulation showed not signif.cant dif.erences whatever the pair. Time of.symptom onset and days to 50% f.owering did not also dif.er signif.cantly between pairs of.cowpea lines except Naf./Naf.-T in which transgenic Naf.-T showed earlier symptoms (7.4 ± 0.7 vs. 8.9 ± 0.8 days post-inoculation) and shorter f.owering time (37.3 ± 0.6 vs. 42 ± 1.7 days af.er sowing). Overall, these f.ndings improve our understanding of.the ef.ects of.Cry1Ab gene mediated genetic modif.cation on cowpea inf.ction by Cowpea aphid-borne mosaic virus, with potential implications f.r environmental saf.ty assessment.

Pneumomediastinum is sometimes observed in adult patients but its occurrence in pediatric patients (especially inf.nts) is very rare. We here report a 14-month-old male inf.nt who had subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum, and importantly, pneumopericardium. He had no particular past histories. He abruptly had cough, fever, and eruption on the abdomen. Computed tomography and echocardiography revealed pneumomediastinum and pneumopericardium. Antibiotics, rest, and supportive therapy ameliorated the condition. We must be aware that pneumomediastinum, and importantly pneumopericardium, can be present in a pediatric patient with subcutaneous emphysema. The infant’s symptoms disappeared under strict monitoring of respiratory status, nasal oxygen therapy and antibiotic therapyf.nt-f.mily:"">.

The explosive technological improvement of.photovoltaic systems as well as the necessity of.populations to come to less expensive energy sources, that have led to an implosion at the level of.solar panel manuf.cturers. This causes a large f.ow of.these equipments to developing countries where the need is high, without any quality control. That conducted an experimental investigation on the perf.rmance characteristics of.a 250 wp monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic module in other to check the verif.cation and quality control. Most of.these PV panels which of.en have missing inf.rmations are manuf.ctured and tested in places that are inadequate f.r our environmental and meteorological conditions. Also, their inf.uences on the stability of.internal parameters were evaluated in order to optimize their perf.rmance. The results obtained at maximum illumination (1000 w/m2) conf.rmed those produced by the manuf.cturer. The analysis of.these characteristics showed that the illumination and the temperature (meteorological f.ctors) inf.uenced at most the stability of.the internal characteristics of.the module in the sense that the maximum power increased very rapidly beyond 750 w/m2 but a degradation of.perf.rmance was accentuated f.r a temperature of.the solar cells exceeding 50°C. The degradation coef.icients were evaluated at -0.0864 V/°C f.r the voltage and at -1.6248 w/°C f.r the power. The 10° inclination angle of.the solar panel proved to be ideal f.r optimizing overall ef.iciency in practical situations.
