Oxidation and Coatings f.r Power Generation： New Super Ultra Critical Steam Turbines

The steels with chromium contents between 9%and 12%wt are used f.r power plants with advanced steam oxidation *** present good creep properties as 9%Cr steels and good oxidation resistance,at the temperatures range between 500℃～600℃.In the last years numerous investigation in development of.coatings has been realized with the aim the protected them against the oxidation in order to allow operation of.steam turbines at 650℃.In this study,Al-Hf.protective coatings were deposited by CVD-f.R on f.rritic steel HCM-12A f.llowed by a dif.usion heat treatment,have shown to be protective at 650℃under steam f.r at least 3000 hours of.laboratory steam exposure under atmospheric *** and composition of.coatings were characterized by dif.erent techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy(SEM),electron probe microanalysis,and X-ray dif.raction(XRD). On the other hand,volatile species by mass spectrometry(MS) and thermogravimetric measurements (TG) during the initial stages oxidation of.the P92 f.rritic steel without and of.Al and Al/Si coating by chemical vapour deposition in f.uidized bed reactors(CVD-f.R) at 650℃in Ar+20%H_2O f.r 150 h were *** order to go f.rward to coatings design the Thermocalc code is used as base f.r the MSdata. TG-MS experiments were conducted in a closed steam loop in order to obtain inf.rmation about the oxyhydroxides f.rmation as reaction between coatings and *** those results the role of.the dif.erent coating element could be established and optimized f.r the coating *** oxidation mechanism based on the TG-MS results is *** morphology/composition and structure of.the oxidized samples were also studied using SEM/EDS and XRD techniques.

The present contributions deal with the development and implementation of.the direct and adj.int incompressible Navie-Stokes equations in a matrix-f.ee time-stepping context making use of.the open-source Openf.AM~ （open source f.eld operation and manipulation） C ＋＋ tool- box. It is shown that a f.w minor modif.cations in the source code can enable these multi-purpose computational f.uid dynamics （Cf.） solvers to carry out global instability analysis of.three- dimensional f.ows of.engineering interest, exploiting all additional capabilities of.such codes. The strength of.this methodology is demonstrated through the analysis of.an interesting selection of.ooen and wall-bounded f.ows.

Thiol-based redox post-translational modif.cations have emerged as important mechanisms of.signaling and regulation in all organisms, and thioredoxin plays a key role by controlling the thiol-disulf.de status of.target proteins. Recent redox proteomic studies revealed hundreds of.proteins regulated by glutathio- nylation and nitrosylation in the unicellular green alga Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, while much less is known about the thioredoxin interactome in this organism. By combining qualitative and quantitative proteomic analyses, we have comprehensively investigated the Chlamydomonas thioredoxome and 1188 targets have been identif.ed. They participate in a wide range of.metabolic pathways and cellular pro- cesses. This study broadens not only the redox regulation to new enzymes involved in well-known thiore- doxin-regulated metabolic pathways but also sheds light on cellular processes f.r which data supporting redox regulation are scarce （aromatic amino acid biosynthesis, nuclear transport, etc）. Moreover, we char- acterized 1052 thioredoxin-dependent regulatory sites and showed that these data constitute a valuable resource f.r f.ture f.nctional studies in Chlamydomonas. By comparing this thioredoxome with proteomic data f.r glutathionylation and nitrosylation at the protein and cysteine levels, this work conf.rms the existence of.a complex redox regulation network in Chlamydomonas and provides evidence of.a tremendous selectivity of.redox post-translational modif.cations f.r specif.c cysteine residues.

Overcoming thermo-optical dynamics in broadband nanophotonic sensing

Advances in integrated photonics open up exciting opportunities f.r batch-f.bricated optical sensors using high-quality-f.ctor nanophotonic cavities to achieve ultrahigh sensitivities and *** sensitivity improves with increasing optical power;however,localized absorption and heating within a micrometer-scale mode volume prominently distorts the cavity resonances and strongly couples the sensor response to thermal dynamics,limiting the sensitivity and hindering the measurement of.broadband time-dependent ***,we derive a f.equency-dependent photonic sensor transf.r f.nction that accounts f.r thermo-optical dynamics and quantitatively describes the measured broadband optomechanical signal f.om an integrated photonic atomic f.rce microscopy nanomechanical *** this transf.r f.nction,the probe can be operated in the high optical power,strongly thermo-optically nonlinear regime,accurately measuring low-and intermediate-f.equency components of.a dynamic signal while reaching a sensitivity of.0.7f./Hz^(1/2) at high f.equencies,an improvement of.10x relative to the best perf.rmance in the linear ***,we discover that a higher transduction gain and sensitivity are achieved with lower quality-f.ctor optical modes f.r low signal *** limited to optomechanical transducers,the derived transf.r f.nction is generally valid f.r describing the small-signal dynamic responses of.a broad range of.technologically important photonic sensors subj.ct to the thermo-optical ef.ect.

Cryopreservation of.Cat’s Claw (<i>Uncaria tomentosa</i>)

Uncaria tomentosa presents tomentum that resembles cat’s claws, hence its common name, is a plant that produces various secondary metabolites that are traditionally used in alternative medicine. The natural distribution of.this species has been af.ected by indiscriminate harvesting f.om its habitat. In the present research, cryopreservation (liquid nitrogen, LN, -196°C) was evaluated as an option f.r ex situ conservation of.this species. The f.llowing techniques were evaluated: vitrif.cation and encapsulation-dehydration of.apices, vitrif.cation of.cell suspensions, and seed desiccation and vitrif.cation. Preculture conditions and exposure times to LS and PVS2 were evaluated. Apex survival was the highest (82%) with preculture in 0.25 M sucrose f.llowed by incubation f.r 20 and 30 min in LS and PVS2, respectively, prior to cooling in LN. The encapsulation-dehydration technique was evaluated by using sucrose preculture and dif.erent capsule moisture contents. Survival of.apices cooled in LN was not signif.cantly dif.erent between treatments and varied f.om 31.8% to 52.9% f.r capsule moisture contents between 22.7% and 20.3%. f.r cell suspensions precultured in 0.5 M sucrose, cell multiplication and f.rmation of.calli with very good appearance were observed in 61.1% of.the cultures f.llowing vitrif.cation. f.r cryopreservation of.seeds, germination was 89.5% using the desiccation technique and 67.6% to78.1% using vitrif.cation.

A f.mily of.one-dimensional(1D) elliptic boundary-value problems with periodic and rapidly-oscillating piecewise-smooth coef.icients is considered. The coef.icients depend on the local or f.st variables corresponding to two dif.erent structural scales. A f.nite number of.imperf.ct contact conditions are analyzed at each of.the scales. The reiterated homogenization method(RHM) is used to construct a f.rmal asymptotic solution. The homogenized problem, the local problems, and the corresponding ef.ective coef.icients are obtained. A variational f.rmulation is derived to obtain an estimate to prove the proximity between the solutions of.the original problem and the homogenized problem. Numerical computations are used to illustrate both the convergence of.the solutions and the gain of.the ef.ective properties of.a three-scale heterogeneous 1D laminate with respect to their two-scale counterparts. The theoretical and practical ideas exposed here could be used to mathematically model multidimensional problems involving multiscale composite materials with imperf.ct contact at the interf.ces.

Water Striders:The Biomechanics of.Water Locomotion and f.nctional Morphology of.the Hydrophobic Surf.ce(Insecta:Hemiptera-Heteroptera)

Water striders are insects living on the water surf.ce, over which they can move very quickly and rarely get wetted. We measured the f.rce of.f.ee walking in water striders, using a hair attached to their backs and a 3D strain gauge. The error was calculated by comparing f.rce and data derived f.om geometry and was estimated as 13%. f.males on average were stronger （1.32 mN） than males （0.87 mN）, however, the ratio of.f.rce to weight was not signif.cantly dif.erent. Compared with other lighter species, Aquarius paludum seems stronger, but the ratio of.f.rce to weight is actually lower. A. paludum applies about 0.3 ***^-1 to 0.4 *** 1 with its mid-legs, thus avoiding penetrating the surf.ce tension layer while propelling itself.rapidly over the water surf.ce. We also investigated the external morphology with SEM. The body is covered by ef.ectively two layers of.macro-and micro-hairs, which renders them hydrophobic. The setae are long （40 μm-60μm） and stif., being responsible f.r waterproof.ng, and the microtrichia are much smaller （〈10μm）, slender, and f.exible, holding a bubble over the body when submerged.

Structural health monitoring (SHM) is a relevant topic f.r civil systems and involves the monitoring, data processing and interpretation to evaluate the condition of.a structure, in order to detect damage. In real structures, two or more sites or types of.damage can be present at the same time. It has been shown that one kind of.damaged condition can interf.re with the detection of.another kind of.damage, leading to an incorrect assessment about the structure condition. Identif.ing combined damage on structures still represents a challenge f.r condition monitoring, because the reliable identif.cation of.a combined damaged condition is a dif.icult task. Thus, this work presents a f.sion of.methodologies, where a single wavelet-packet and the empirical mode decomposition (EMD) method are combined with artif.cial neural networks (ANNs) f.r the automated and online identif.cation-location of.single or multiple-combined damage in a scaled model of.a f.ve-bay truss-type structure. Results showed that the proposed methodology is very ef.icient and reliable f.r identif.ing and locating the three kinds of.damage, as well as their combinations. Theref.re, this methodology could be applied to detection-location of.damage in real truss-type structures, which would help to improve the characteristics and lif. span of.real structures.

A detailed vibrational Raman-lR spectroscopic and dif.ractional analyses have been perf.rmed on basalts f.om two locations f.om Tenerif. Island：（1） the Arenas Negras volcano which belongs to the historical eruption not showing visible alteration and （2） Pillow Lavas zone f.om Anaga Massif.which shows a clearly f.uid-rock interaction caused by submarine alteration. These places have been extensively studied due to its similarity with the surf.ce of.Mars. The analysis is based on the mineral detection of.selected samples by a Micro-Raman study of.the materials. The complementary techniques have conf.rmed the mineralogy detected by the Raman measurement. The results show a volcanic environment behavior with primary phases like olivine, pyroxene, and f.ldsparj.lagioclase. Moreover, the presence of.accessory minerals or secondary mineralization like phosphate, iron oxides, zeolite or carbonates shows the alteration processes on each outcrop. The variation in the crystallinity and amorphous phases is related to f.uid-rock interaction caused by hydrothermal episodes and external weathering processes, which shows several analogies with the ancient volcanic activity f.om Mars.
