Apolipoprotein A-Ⅱ(APOA-Ⅱ) is the second most abundant apolipoprotein of high-density lipoprotein(HDL)synthesized mainly by the liver and to a much lesser extent by the intestine. Transgenic mice overexpressing human APOA-Ⅱ present abnormal lipoprotein composition and are prone to atherosclerosis, though in humans the role for APOA-Ⅱ in coronary heart disease remains controversial. Here, we investigated the effects of overexpressed APOA-Ⅱ on HDL structure and function, adipose tissue metabolic activity, glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity. C57BL/6 mice were infected with an adenovirus expressing human APOA-Ⅱ or a control adenovirus Ad GFP, and five days post-infection blood and tissue samples were isolated. APOA-Ⅱ expression resulted in distinct changes in HDL apoproteome that correlated with increased antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. No effects on cholesterol efflux from RAW 264.7 macrophages were observed. Molecular analyses in white adipose tissue(WAT) indicated a stimulation of oxidative phosphorylation coupled with respiration for ATP production in mice overexpressing APOA-Ⅱ. Finally, overexpressed APOA-Ⅱ improved glucose tolerance of mice but had no effect on the response to exogenously administered insulin. In summary, expression of APOA-Ⅱ in C57BL/6 mice results in pleiotropic effects with respect to HDL functionality, adipose tissue metabolism and glucose utilization, many of which are beneficial to health.

Apolipoprotein E（APOE） is a major protein component of peripheral and brain lipoprotein transport *** in peripheral circulation does not cross the blood brain barrier or blood cerebrospinal fluid barrier. As a result,peripheral APOE expression does not affect brain APOE levels and vice versa. Numerous epidemiological studies suggest a key role of peripherally expressed APOE in the development and progression of coronary heart disease while brain APOE has been associated with dementia and Alzheimer＇s disease. More recent studies, mainly in experimental mice, suggested a link between Apoe and morbid obesity. According to the latest findings, expression of human apolipoprotein E3（APOE3） isoform in the brain of mice is associated with a potent inhibition of visceral white adipose tissue（WAT） mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation leading to significantly reduced substrate oxidation,increased fat accumulation and obesity. In contrast, hepatically expressed APOE3 is associated with a notable shift of substrate oxidation towards non-shivering thermogenesis in visceral WAT mitochondria, leading to resistance to obesity. These novel findings constitute a major paradigm shift from the widely accepted perception that APOE promotes obesity via receptor-mediated postprandial lipid delivery to WAT. Here, we provide a critical review of the latest facts on the role of APOE in morbid obesity.

The Eocene Kuldana Formation(KF)in the Yadgar area of Pakistan,comprises a diverse range of sedimentary facies,including variegated red beds of shales,mudstones,and sandstones,as well as interbedded limestone and *** this study,we conducted an integrated micropaleontological,sedimentological,mineralogical,and geochemical investigation to determine the depositional setting,biochronology,provenance,and paleoclimate of the *** study identified six lithofacies and six microfacies,which indicate a variety of environments ranging from floodplains and channels to the margins and shallow marine *** nannofossil biostratigraphy places the KF in the Early Eocene,more precisely the NP10 zone(Ypresian),and the fossil zone of benthic foraminifera classifies the study section as the Shallow Benthic Zone SBZ-8(Middle Ilerdian 2).In terms of petrography,the KF sandstone was classified as litharenite and feldspathic litharenite,while the QtFL diagram suggests a recycled *** proxies indicate an oxidizing environment,a high-to-low regular sedimentation rate,moderate-to-intense chemical weathering in the source region,and a warm-humid to dry climate during the deposition of ***,the findings suggest that the deposition of KF marks the end of Neo-Tethys due to the Early Eocene Indian–Kohistan collision and that the uplifting of the Himalayas provided the source for the deposition of KF in the foreland *** study provides new insights into the depositional environment,biochronology,provenance,and paleoclimate of KF,and highlights the potential for red beds as reliable indicators of oxygenation levels in proximity to mineral deposits.

BACKGROUND Kidney transplantation leads to continuous improvement in the survival rates of kidney transplant recipients(KTRs)and has been established as the treatment of choice for patients with end-stage kidney ***-related quality of life(HRQoL)has become an important outcome *** is highly important to develop reliable methods to evaluate HRQoL with disease-specific *** To translate the disease-specific instrument Kidney Transplant Questionnaire 25(KTQ-25)to the Greek language and perform a cross-cultural *** The translation and adaptation of the original English version of the KTQ-25 to the Greek language were performed based on the International Quality of Life RESULTS Eighty-four KTRs(59 males;mean age 53.5±10.7 years;mean estimated glomerular filtration rate 47.7±15.1 mL/min/1.73 m2;mean transplant vintage 100.5±83.2 months)completed the Greek version of the KTQ-25 and the 36-item Short-Form Health Survey,and the results were used to evaluate the reliability of the Greek *** Cronbach alpha coefficients for all the KTQ-25 dimensions were satisfactory(physical symptoms=0.639,fatigue=0.856,uncertainty/fear=0.661,appearance=0.593,emotions=0.718,total score=0.708).The statistically significant correlation coefficients among the KTQ-25 dimensions ranged from 0.226 to *** correlation coeffi-cients of the KTQ-25 dimensions with the SF-36 physical component summary(PCS)ranged from 0.196 to 0.550;the correlation coefficients of the KTQ-25 with the SF-36 mental component summary(MCS)ranged from 0.260 to 0.655;and the correlation coefficients of the KTQ-25 with the total scores with the SF-36 PCS and MCS were 0.455 and 0.613,*** According to the findings,the Greek version of the KTQ-25 is valid and reliable for administration among kidney transplant patients in Greece.

BACKGROUND Physical activity levels are significantly lower in kidney transplant(KT)recipients compared to the general *** effects of exercise training in KT recipients with diabetes mellitus remain unclear,and so little is known about the role of increased exercise on cardiovascular risk and metabolic profile of KT *** To investigate the effects of a 6-mo home-based exercise training program on functional capacity,glucose levels and lipid profile of diabetic KT *** In total,21 type II diabetic KT recipients were randomly assigned into two groups:Exercise(n=11,aged 52.9±10.1 years)and control(n=10,aged 53.01±9.5 years).All participants at baseline and the end of the study underwent biochemical tests for fasting plasma glucose levels,glycated hemoglobin and lipid profile and cardiopulmonary exercise testing for maximum oxygen uptake[(VO2)peak]*** exercise group followed a 6-mo supervised home-based aerobic and progressive resistance exercise program of moderate intensity 3 times per week,while the control group continued to receive usual *** At the end of the 6-mo study,the exercise group had significantly lower values in fasting plasma glucose by 13.4%(from 120.6±28.9 mg/dL to 104.8±21.9 mg/dL,P=0.01),glycated hemoglobin by 1.5%(from 6.7%±0.4 to 6.6%±0.4,P=0.01)and triglycerides by 8.5%(from 164.7±14.8 mg/dL to 150.8±11.6 mg/dL,P<0.05)and higher values in high-density lipoprotein by 10.2%(from 51.4±8.8 mg/dL to 57.2±8.7 mg/dL,P<0.05)and(VO_(2))_(peak)by 4.7%(from 22.7±3.3 to 23.8±4.2,P=0.02)than the control *** were statistically significant differences between the two groups at the end of the study for fasting plasma glucose(decreased by 9.6%,P<0.05),triglycerides(decreased by 4.5%,P=0.04)and(VO_(2))_(peak)(increased by 4.4%,P=0.01).Finally,after training,there was a moderate,positive linear relationship between(VO_(2))_(peak)and glycated hemoglobin in the exercise group(r=0.408,P=0.03).CONCLUSION The res
