BACkGROUND Mesenchymal stem cells(MSC)modified by gene transfer to express cardiac pacemaker channels such as HCN2 or HCN4 were shown to elicit pacemaker function after intracardiac transplantation in experimental animal *** MSC derived from adipose tissue(haMSC)differentiate into cells with pacemaker properties in vitro,but little is known about their behavior after intracardiac *** To investigate whether haMSC elicit biological pacemaker function in vivo after transplantation into pig *** haMSC under native conditions(nhaMSC)or after pre-conditioning by medium differentiation(dhaMSC)(n=6 pigs each,5×106 cells/animal)were injected into the porcine left ventricular free *** receiving PBS injection served as controls(n=6).Four weeks later,total atrioventricular(AV)-block was induced by radiofrequency catheter ablation,and electronic pacemaker devices were implanted for backup stimulation and heart rate *** rate and rhythm of pigs were evaluated during a follow-up of 15 d post ablation by 12-lead-ECG with heart rate assessment,24-h continuous rate monitoring recorded by electronic pacemaker,assessment of escape recovery time,and pharmacological challenge to address catecholaminergic rate ***,hearts were analyzed by histological and immunohistochemical *** In vivo transplantation of dhaMSC into the left ventricular free wall of pigs elicited spontaneous and regular rhythms that were pace-mapped to ventricular injection sites(mean heart rate 72.2±3.6 bpm;n=6)after experimental total AV *** rhythms were stably detected over a 15-d period and were sensitive to catecholaminergic stimulation(mean maximum heart rate 131.0±6.2 bpm;n=6;P<0.001).Pigs,which received nhaMSC or PBS presented significantly lower ventricular rates(mean heart rates 47.2±2.5 bpm and 37.4±3.2 bpm,respectively;n=6 each;P<0.001)and exhibited little sensitivity towards catecholaminergic stimulatio

Crystal field and magnetism with Wannier functions: rare-earth doped aluminum garnets

Using the recently developed method we calculated the crystal field parameters m yttrium anct lutetium aluminum garnets doped with seven trivalent krarners rare-earth ions. We then inserted calculated parameters into the atomic-like Hamiltonian taking into account the electron-electron, spin-orbit and Zeeman interactions and determined the multiplet splitting by the crystal field as well as magnetic tensors. We compared calculated results with available experimental data. Very good agreement with the spectroscopic data and qualitative agreement with experimental tensors was found.

Language Education Optimization: A New Human-Based Metaheuristic Algorithm for Solving Optimization Problems

In this paper,based on the concept of the NFL theorem,that there is no unique algorithm that has the best performance for all optimization problems,a new human-based metaheuristic algorithm called Language Education Optimization(LEO)is introduced,which is used to solve optimization *** is inspired by the foreign language education process in which a language teacher trains the students of language schools in the desired language skills and *** is mathematically modeled in three phases:(i)students selecting their teacher,(ii)students learning from each other,and(iii)individual practice,considering exploration in local search and exploitation in local *** performance of LEO in optimization tasks has been challenged against fifty-two benchmark functions of a variety of unimodal,multimodal types and the CEC 2017 test *** optimization results show that LEO,with its acceptable ability in exploration,exploitation,and maintaining a balance between them,has efficient performance in optimization applications and solution *** efficiency in optimization tasks is compared with ten well-known metaheuristic *** of the simulation results show that LEO has effective performance in dealing with optimization tasks and is significantly superior andmore competitive in combating the compared *** implementation results of the proposed approach to four engineering design problems show the effectiveness of LEO in solving real-world optimization applications.

Antimicrobial impacts of selected Lamiaceae plants on bacteria isolated from vegetables and their application in edible films

Fresh vegetables can be contaminated with spoilage and food-borne pathogenic bacteria during cultivation,harvesting,transport and further *** essential oils seem a promising solution for preserving vegetables incorporated in edible *** the study it was determined the prevalence of allochthonous bacteria on some fresh vegetables with classical cultivation and molecular biology *** evaluation of the antibacterial effect of Thymus vulgaris,Origanum vulgare,Mentha piperita and Melissa officinalis essential oils against identified bacteria from vegetables and on some standard foodborne pathogenic bacteria was realized with agar diffusion *** prevalence of allochthonous bacteria in the examined vegetables was *** some cases,high contamination level could be detected reaching the level of 104 colony forming units/*** identified bacteria belong to different genera like Bacillus,Enterobacter,Pseudomonas *** the tested plant essential oils,the most pronounced antibacterial effect was detected in the case of thyme and oregano,with over 30 mm inhibition *** isolated bacteria from vegetables showed higher resistance to the used essential *** results suggest that edible films containing thyme and oregano essential oils possess efficient antibacterial effect against mesophilic aerobic bacteria and Staphylococcus *** findings seem a promising solution for preserving vegetables with natural antimicrobial containing edible films.

Forest practices in headwater catchments are related to environmental and social *** aim of this study is to analyse the changing protective functions of forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.(North Bohemia,Czech Republic)since the second half of the 19th *** time,forests have gradually changed from native stands to spruce plantations(Picea abies),introducing exotic conifers(more resistant to air pollution),and,recently,back to more diverse mixed *** priority in pro-tective forest functions there shifted from flood protection to integrated control of water resources(quantity and quality).In the 1980s,forest-water interactions were degraded by consequences of extreme acid atmospheric deposition,forest die-back,and extensive *** the Jizerka catchment,first signs of recovery were observed in the early *** waters there are still affected by prolonged *** reconstruction of stream water chemistry at Jizerka follows the drop of the acid deposition in some 5 years,the revival of stream biota takes 10-15 *** 2071-2100,the pro-jected climate change shows rising annual air temperatures by 3.0-4.6℃,decreasing water yield by 65-123 mm,60%drop in'minimum residual discharge',and 20-30%rise in ***,these projected environmental changes cannot substantially decline the high potential in water resource recharge,or,start reverse processes in recent recovery from acidification and radically affect the exis-tence of planned mixed forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.

Promoting axon regeneration in the central nervous system by increasing PI3-kinase signaling

Task allocation is a fundamental problem in multi-robot systems where heterogeneous robots cooperate to perform a complex mission.A general requirement in a task allocation algorithm is to find an optimal set of robots to execute a certain *** paper presents the work that harnesses an area decomposition algorithm,and a space-based middleware to facilitate task allocation process in unstructured and dynamic *** reduce spatial interference between robots,area decomposition algorithm divides a working area into cells which are then dynamically assigned to *** addition,coordination and collaboration among distributed robots are realized through a space-based *** this purpose,the space-based middleware is extended with a semantic model of robot capabilities to improve task selection in terms of flexibility,scalability,and reduced communication overhead during task *** this way a framework which exploits the synergy of area decomposition and semantically enriched space-based approach is *** conducted performance tests in a specific precision agriculture use case focusing on the utilization of a robotic fleet for weed control introduced in the European Project RHEA–Robot Fleets for Highly Effective Agriculture and Forestry Management.

Utilization of fly ash from coal-fired power plants in China

The rapidly increasing demand for energy in China leads to the construction of new power plants all over the country. Coal, as the main fuel resource of those power plants, results in increasing problems with the disposal of solid residues from combustion and off gas cleaning. This investigation describes chances for the utilization of fly ash from coal-fired power plants in China. After briefly comparing the situation in China and Germany, the status of aluminum recycling from fly ash and the ad- vantages for using fly ash in concrete products are introduced. Chemical and physical analyses of Chinese fly ash samples, e.g., X-ray diffraction (XRD), ICP (Inductive Coupled Plasma) and particle size analysis, water requirement, etc. are presented. Rea- sonable amounts of aluminum were detected in the samples under investigation, but for recovery only sophisticated procedures are available up to now. Therefore, simpler techniques are suggested for the first steps in the utilization of Chinese fly ash.

Sharka caused by Plum pox virus（PPV）is the most harmful disease of stone fruits in Europe and elsewhere in the *** is no highly PPV resistant cultivar of *** approach has led to the development of resistance through genetic *** this study,we evaluated a transgenic plum Prunus domestica L.,clone C5（*** Sweet）,where the PPV resistance is based on RNA interference（RNAi）.Resistance in C5 plums has been evaluated for PPV,Prune dwarf virus（PDV）,and Apple chlorotic leaf spot virus（ACLSV）in a regulated field trial in the Czech Republic for 12 years（2002–2013）.Even under high and permanent infection pressure introduced through graft inoculation of the viruses,PPV has been detected in C5 trees only in several leaves situated close to the point of inoculum grafting in the first nine *** symptoms of PPV disappeared year by *** PPV symptoms were observed in the last three years and results of ELISA detection were *** results were obtained,when RT-PCR was used for PPV *** natural infection of PPV by aphids was recorded in C5 plums,even if PPV infected plants were growing in the same experimental field in close ***-infections of PPV with PDV and/or ACLSV had practically no influence on stability of resistance in C5 *** years of field testing in the Czech Republic clearly demonstrated the high level of resistance of C5 either to PPV infection by graft inoculation or natural infection through aphid vectors.

Characterisation of the granular dynamics at the interface between a pipe and a granular flow in a rotating drum

A new mobile bed heat exchanger is presented in this work which is composed of a flowing granular material in a rotating drum and a cylindrical pipe with potential interest in different energy applications as cooling,heating or heat recovery *** optimal design of the device requires a characterisation of the phenomena involved at the interface between the granular flow and the *** process is modelled by the discrete element method and a global classification of the flow patterns around the pipe is presented with respect to the three main control parameters of the problem:the Froude number,the diameter ratio and the relative filling height of the *** second part is devoted to the characterisation of the structure of the flow at the interface(velocity field,density field)in particular in a so-called Biflow regime where granular motion occurs above as well as below the pipe which is favourable to transfer by convection.A typical behavior at the interface with the pipe consists of a zone I with high velocities of particles at the top of the pipe,a second zone with quasistatic particles or low velocity particles at the front and at the bottom of the pipe and a last zone ll of depletion of particles at the back of the *** Froude number has a limited effect on the features of this structure on the first layer in the range of Froude numbers considered whereas the relative height is a more determinant parameter to control the relative magnitude of velocities in zone I and zone Il as well as the extent of the depletion *** first hydrodynamical characterisation can shed light on the dynamical regimes with improved transfer between the particles and the pipe boundary.
