Middle Cambrian (Upper Series 3)Protoconodonts and Paraconodonts from the Machari Formation at Eodungol Section,Yeongwol,Korea

The Machari Formation ranges from the ＂upper Series 3＂（Middle Cambrian） to Furongian （Upper Cambrian） in the Yeongwol area, Korea. It has been known to yield relatively diverse invertebrate fossils. Particularly, the trilobite biozones of the formation have been well defined. On the other hand, little has hitherto been studied on conodont microfossils for the formation. This paper reports a diverse and well-preserved protoconodonts and paraconodonts of Series 3 from the formation in the Eodungol Section, exposed along a southern mountain trail of Mt. Sambangsan, Yeongwol, Korea. Five of the 13 samples collected for conodont contain a rich protoconodont and paraconodont assemblage and numerous shelly fossils including trilobites, brachiopods, sponge spicules, hyolithids, and incertae sedis. Sample Eo 5 is extremely fossiliferous （465 elements, 96.5% of total collection）, and the most abundant species was Phakelodus elongatus （236 elements, 62% of the Eo 5 collection）. The preservation is relatively good, but some specimens are corroded and fragmentary. Some of the protoconodonts are exfoliated. Relatively larger ones were commonly preserved as phosphatized internal molds, particularly in specimens of Furnishina bigeminata, Furnishina leei n. sp., Muellerodus pomeranensis, Nogamiconus sinensis, and westergaardodids. Phakelodids were commonly preserved as clusters. Among 20 species referable to nine genera, Furnishina bigeminata, Furnishina leei n. sp., Nogamiconus sinensis, Huayuanodontus tricornis, Proscandodus obliquus, and Westergaardodina grandidens were previously undescribed species in Korea. This assemblage is named herein as the Westergaardodina matsushitai Zone, which is a new biozonal name replacing the old one, i.e., Gapparodus bisulcatus-Westergaardodina matsushitai-Westergaardodina moessebergensis Assemblage. Long-term efficacy and safety of ExPress implantation for treatment of open angle glaucoma

AIM：To compare the long-term efficacy and safety of Ex Press implantation and standard trabeculectomy in patients with primary open angle glaucoma（POAG）.METHODS：In this retrospective study,we compared 17eyes treated by Ex Press implantation with 23 eyes treated by *** was assessed according to the relevant intraocular pressure（IOP）values and success rates during the first year of *** corneal endothelial cell loss was also ***：The number of antiglaucoma medications and the IOP reduction were similar between the 2 groups during the follow-up *** the mean IOP was similar,the IOP-fluctuation rate during the early postoperative period was significantly lower in the ExPress group than in the trabeculectomy group（P=0.038）.A Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis showed no significant successrate difference between the groups（P=0.810）.The corneal endothelial cell loss rate,moreover,was significantly lower in the Ex Press group（P=0.05）.CONCLUSION：Ex Press implantation compared with trabeculectomy showed similar IOP-reduction and success rates along with lower IOP fluctuation and endothelial cell loss *** this reason,it can be considered to be the treatment of choice for patients with advanced glaucoma or low corneal endothelial cell density.

Background Community water fluoridation is an effective public health strategy for preventing dental caries,*** exist about potential health *** study explores associations between tap water fluoride levels and pediatric disease burden,as well as neurodevelopmental outcomes at 6 years of *** This nationwide population-based cohort study included children born in Korean cities with and without tap water fluoridation projects,between 2006 and 2012,aiming for a fluoride concentration of 0.8±0.2 mg/L in treated tap *** from the National Health Insurance Service were used,spanning from birth to *** relationship between exposure to fluoridated tap water and incidence of 16 childhood diseases that were previously identified as potentially linked to fluoride exposure were ***,we evaluated the neurodevelopmental outcomes across various domains,including gross motor,fine motor,cognition,language,social skills,and self-help *** assessments were performed using data from a comprehensive national health screening program for children aged six *** A fluoride-unexposed group included 22,881 children,whereas a fluoride-exposed group comprised 29,991 children(52%males).Children in the fluoride-exposed group had a decreased risk of dental caries and bone fractures[hazard ratio(95%confidence interval,CI),0.76(0.63–0.93)and 0.89(0.82–0.93),respectively]and increased risk of hepatic failures[1.85,(1.14–2.98)]compared to those in the unexposed ***,the risk ratio of abnormal neurodevelopmental screening outcomes increased by 9%,but this was statistically uncertain(95%CI,0.95–1.26).Conclusions Fluoridated tap water was associated with an increased risk of hepatic failure but a decreased risk of bone fractures in *** association between fluoridated tap water and neurodevelopmental screening outcomes at 6 years remains unclear,highlighting the need for further studies to clarify this associ

suboptimal Feature Selection Techniques for Effective Malicious Traffic Detection on Lightweight Devices

With the advancement of wireless network technology,vast amounts of traffic have been generated,and malicious traffic attacks that threaten the network environment are becoming increasingly *** signature-based detection methods,static analysis,and dynamic analysis techniques have been previously explored for malicious traffic detection,they have limitations in identifying diversified malware traffic *** research has been focused on the application of machine learning to detect these ***,applying machine learning to lightweight devices like IoT devices is challenging because of the high computational demands and complexity involved in the learning *** this study,we examined methods for effectively utilizing machine learning-based malicious traffic detection approaches for lightweight *** introduced the suboptimal feature selection model(SFSM),a feature selection technique designed to reduce complexity while maintaining the effectiveness of malicious traffic *** performance was evaluated on various malicious traffic,benign,exploits,and generic,using the UNSW-NB15 dataset and SFSM sub-optimized hyperparameters for feature selection and narrowed the search scope to encompass all *** improved learning performance while minimizing complexity by considering feature selection and exhaustive search as two steps,a problem not considered in conventional *** experimental results showed that the detection accuracy was improved by approximately 20%compared to the random model,and the reduction in accuracy compared to the greedy model,which performs an exhaustive search on all features,was kept within 6%.Additionally,latency and complexity were reduced by approximately 96%and 99.78%,respectively,compared to the greedy *** study demonstrates that malicious traffic can be effectively detected even in lightweight device *** verified the possibility of detecting various attack

Multi-analyte analysis of cytokines that predict outcomes in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma treated with radiotherapy

AIM To analyze cytokine levels and to identify their association with outcome in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) treated with radiotherapy(RT). METHODS Patients with HCC who were treated with RT were eligible for this prospective study. Blood samples were collected before and after RT, and serum cytokine levels including interleukin(IL)-1, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12, and tumor necrosis factor-α were analyzed. REsuLTS Between 2008 and 2009, 51 patients were enrolled in this study. Baseline IL-6 level was high in patients with a history of pre-RT treatment. Median survival was 13.9 mo with alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) as a significant factor(P = 0.020). Median failure-free survival(FFS) for infield, outfield-intrahepatic and extrahepatic failures were 23.3, 11.5 and 12.0 mo, respectively. Sex and baseline IL-6 level were associated with infield FFS, and baseline IL-10 level was correlated with outfield-intrahepatic FFS. For extrahepatic FFS, AFP was significant(P =0.034). Patients with a baseline IL-6 level of ≥ 9.7 pg/m L showed worse infield FFS(P = 0.005), and this significance was observed only in treatment-non-na?ve patients(P = 0.022). CONCLUSION In addition to AFP, cytokines seem useful in predicting infield and outfield-intrahepatic failure. Serum cytokines could be useful biomarkers for predicting RT outcome in HCC.

Timing of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy does not influence short-term outcomes in patients with acute variceal bleeding

AIM To examine the association between the timing of endo-scopy and the short-term outcomes of acute variceal bleeding in cirrhotic *** This retrospective study included 274 consecutive patients admitted with acute esophageal variceal bleeding of two tertiary hospitals in Korea. We adjusted confounding factors using the Cox proportional hazards model and the inverse probability weighting （IPW） method. The primary outcome was the mortality of patients within 6 *** A total of 173 patients received urgent endoscopy （ i.e. , ≤ 12 h after admission）, and 101 patients received non-urgent endoscopy （〉 12 h after admission）. The 6-wk mortality rate was 22.5% in the urgent endoscopy group and 29.7% in the non-urgent endoscopy group, and there was no significant difference between the two groups before （P = 0.266） and after IPW （P = 0.639）. The length of hospital stay was statistically different between the urgent group and non-urgent group （P = 0.033）; however, there was no significant difference in the in-hospital mortality rate between the two groups （8.1%vs 7.9%, P = 0.960）. In multivariate analyses, timing of endoscopy was not associated with 6-wk mortality （hazard ratio, 1.297; 95% confdence interval, 0.806-2.089; P = 0.284）.CONCLUSION In cirrhotic patients with acute variceal bleeding, the timing of endoscopy may be independent of short-term mortality.

Malicious Traffic Compression and Classification Technique for Secure Internet of Things

With the introduction of 5G technology,the application of Internet of Things(IoT)devices is expanding to various industrial ***,introducing a robust,lightweight,low-cost,and low-power security solution to the IoT environment is ***,this study proposes two methods using a data compression technique to detect malicious traffic efficiently and accurately for a secure IoT *** first method,compressed sensing and learning(CSL),compresses an event log in a bitmap format to quickly detect ***,the attack log is detected using a machine-learning classification *** second method,precise re-learning after CSL(Ra-CSL),comprises a two-step *** uses CSL as the 1st step analyzer,and the 2nd step analyzer is applied using the original dataset for a log that is detected as an attack in the 1st step *** the experiment,the bitmap rule was set based on the boundary value,which was 99.6%true positive on average for the attack and benign data found by analyzing the training *** results showed that the CSL was effective in reducing the training and detection time,and Ra-CSL was effective in increasing the detection *** to the experimental results,the data compression technique reduced the memory size by up to 20%and the training and detection times by 67%when compared with the conventional *** addition,the proposed technique improves the detection accuracy;the Naive Bayes model with the highest performance showed a detection rate of approximately 99%.

Smooth cutting pattern generation technique for membrane structures using geodesic line on subplane and spline interpolation

Practical techniques for smooth geodesic patterning of membrane structures were *** the geodesic search,adjustment of the subplane of the extracted elements series was proposed,and various spline approximation methods were used to flatten the strip for the generation of a smooth *** search approach is very simple,and the geodesic line could be easily attained by the proposed method without the need for a difficult computation *** cutting patterning can also be generated by spline approximation without the noise in discrete nodal ***,the geodesic cutting pattern saved about 21%of the required area for the catenary model due to the reduction of the curvature of the planar pattern seam line.

AIM:To compare the clinical results of femtosecond(FS)laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)in high myopic patients and low myopic ***:This study included 212 myopic eyes undergoing LASIK using a VisuMax 500kHz FS *** treated eyes were assigned to one of two groups according to preoperative manifest spherical refraction:low myopia group(A,>-4.0 D)and high myopia group(B,sual acuity(UDVA,CDVA),refractive errors,and higher-order aberrations(HOAs)were measured preoperatively and lwk,I,3 and 6mo ***:At 6mo of follow-up,92%and 76%had a UDVA of 20/20 or better in group A and B,respectively(P=0.037)and UDVA was significantly different between two groups(P=0.042).Six and seven percentage lost one line of CDVA in group A and B,respectively(P=0.572)and no eyes in both groups lost more than two *** group had 87%and 76%of treated eyes within±0.5 D of the intended correction(P=0.186),and 13%and 43%with a change of>0.50 D in spherical equivalent from Iwk to 6mo postoperatively(P=0.005).In terms of postoperative astigmatism,each group had 89.1%and 76.6%within±0.50 D,respectively and there was significant difference(P=0.006).Group A tends to induce smaller HOAs than group ***:FS LASIK is effective and safe for correcting high myopia as well as low ***,high myopic eyes showed more postoperative astigmatism and HOAs which affect visual acuity.
