Transcriptome sequencing assisted discovery and computational analysis of novel SNPs associated with flowering in Raphanus sativus in-bred lines for marker-assisted backcross breeding

The sequencing of radish genome aids in the better understanding and tailoring of traits associated with economic *** order to accelerate the genomics assisted breeding and genetic selection,transcriptomes of 33 radish inbred lines with diverse traits were sequenced for the development of single nucleotide polymorphic(SNP)*** sequence reads ranged from 2,560,543,741 bp to 20,039,688,139 bp with the GC(%)of 47.80–49.34 and phred quality score(Q30)of 96.47–97.54%.A total of 4951 polymorphic SNPs were identified among the accessions after stringent filtering and 298 SNPs with efficient marker assisted backcross breeding(MAB)markers were generated from the polymorphic ***,functional annotations of SNPs revealed the effects and importance of the SNPs identified in the flowering *** SNPs were predominantly associated with the four major flowering related transcription factors such as MYB,MADS box(AG),AP2/EREB,and *** addition,SNPs in the vital flowering integrator gene(FT)and floral repressors(EMBRYONIC FLOWER 1,2,and FRIGIDA)were identified among the radish inbred ***,50 SNPs were randomly selected from 298 SNPs and validated using Kompetitive Allele Specific PCR genotyping system(KASP)in 102 radish inbred *** homozygosity of the inbred lines varied from 56 to 96%and the phylogenetic analysis resulted in the clustering of inbred lines into three *** together,the SNP markers identified in the present study can be utilized for the discrimination,seed purity test,and adjusting parental combinations for breeding in radish.

Recent Advances in Cuticular Wax Biosynthesis and Its Regulation in Arabidopsis

The aerial parts of land plants are covered with cuticu- lar waxes that limit non-stomatal water loss and gaseous exchanges, and protect plants from ultraviolet radiation and pathogen attacks. They are composed of very-long-chain fatty acids （VLCFAs; C20 to C34） in addition to their deriva-tives, aldehydes, alkanes, primary and secondary alcohols, and wax esters. Due to their physical properties, such as solid-ity at room temperature and a translucency ranging from transparent to opaque, plant waxes have been used as raw materials in the production of cosmetics, detergents, plas-tics, soaps, paints, drugs, lubricants, and high-value renew-able fuels. Many genes involved in cuticular wax biosynthesis and export have been characterized by forward and reverse genetic approaches as well as by stem epidermis transcrip-tome analysis. The regulatory mechanisms of cuticular wax biosynthesis have been reported at the transcriptional, post- transcriptional, and translational levels. Recent advances in cuticular wax biosynthesis and its regulation are reviewed in this paper.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasonography for the evaluation of liver fibrosis after biliary obstruction

AIM:To investigate perfusion change in contrastenhanced ultrasonography(CEUS) to evaluate liver fibrosis based on biliary obstruction using an animal ***:New Zealand white rabbits(3-4 kg) underwent bile duct ligation to form a biliary obstruction *** performed liver CEUS and laboratory tests on the day before the operation(day 0) and every 7 postoperative days until the rabbits were *** CEUS,signal intensity of liver parenchyma with a time-intensity curve was *** parameters were automatically calculated from regionof-interests,including peak signal intensity,mean transit time,area under the curve and time to *** grades of liver fibrosis were assessed according to the Metavir score system immediately after *** estimating equations were used to analyze the association between liver fibrosis grades and perfusion parameters for statistical *** perfusion parameters were measured on the last day and the difference between day 0 and the last day were ***:From the nine rabbits,histological grades of liver fibrosis were grade 1 in one rabbit,grade 2 and 3 in three rabbits each,and grade 4 in two *** the four CEUS parameters,only the peak signal intensity measured on the last day demonstrated a significant association with liver fibrosis grades(OR =1.392,95%CI:1.114-1.741,P =0.004).The difference in peak signal intensity between day 0 and the last dayalso demonstrated an association with liver fibrosis(OR =1.191,95%CI:0.999-1.419,P =0.051).The other parameters tested,including mean transit time,area under the curve,and time to peak,showed no significant correlation with liver fibrosis ***:This animal study demonstrates that CEUS can be used to evaluate liver fibrosis from biliary obstruction using peak signal intensity as a parameter.

Analysis of the current density characteristics in through-mask electrochemical micromachining(TMEMM) for fabrication of micro-hole arrays on invar alloy film

Invar alloy consisting of 64% iron and 36% nickel has been widely used for the production of shadow masks for organic light emitting diodes（OLEDs） because of its low thermal expansion coefficient（1.86 × 10^-6cm/°C）.To fabricate micro-hole arrays on 30 lm invar alloy film,through-mask electrochemical micromachining（TMEMM） was developed and combined with a portion of the photolithography etching *** precise hole shapes,patterned photoresist（PR） film was applied as an insulating *** investigate the relationship between the current density and the material removal rate,the principle of the electrochemical machining was studied with a focus on the *** finite element method（FEM） was used to verify the influence of each parameter on the current density on the invar alloy film *** parameters considered were the thickness of the PR mask,inter-electrode gap（IEG）,and electrolyte *** of experiments（DOE） was used to figure out the contribution of each parameter.A simulation was conducted with varying parameters to figure out their relationships with the current *** was conducted to select the suitable *** experiment was carried out to verify the simulation *** was possible to fabricate micro-hole arrays on invar alloy film using TMEMM,which is a promising method that can be applied to fabrications of OLEDs shadow masks.

Porous g-C_(3)N_(4)-encapsulated TiO_(2) hollow sphere as a high-performance Z-scheme hybrid for solar-induced photocatalytic abatement of environmentally toxic pharmaceuticals

Herein,we rationally constructed a hybrid heterostructure comprising porous g-C_(3)N_(4)(CN)-encapsulated anatase TiO_(2) hollow spheres(TOHS)via a synthesis method that involves hydrothermal and calcination *** fabricated hybrid,termed CN/TOHS,demonstrated extraordinary activity toward the degradation of environmentally toxic pharmaceutical substances(acetaminophen and ciprofloxacin)in aqueous solutions under simulated sunlight irradiation;the activity of CN/TOHS was superior to that attained for individual TOHS and CN *** particular,the CN/TOHS hybrid containing 13.3 wt.%of CN on TOHS displayed the optimum degradation activity among the tested catalysts used in this study,and it also possessed exceptional recyclability and stability during consecutive degradation *** remarkable photocatalytic activity and stability of the hybrid were predominantly ascribed to the large solid interfacial contact between constituents,TOHS and CN,induced by effective hybrid structure,which boosted the interfacial charge transfer and impeded with the direct recombination of photo-induced ***,the results of the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis corroborated the effective mineralization of model pharmaceutical pollutants in the presence of the CN/TOHS *** simple interfacial engineering strategy presented in this study offers a potential route for the rational design of novel catalysts for application in environmental remediation and solar energy conversion.

Design concept development of a variable magnetization motorwith improved efficiency and controllable stiffness for roboticapplications

A variable magnetization(VM) motor by incorporating magnets that can be flexibly configured with variable magnetization process is proposed to meet the emerging requirements on motor efficiency and actuator compliance in robotic applications. A generalized spin torque model is established which provides a relationship between the motor torque and two different types of motor inputs, the current inputs and the magnet magnetizations. Avariable magnetization process is proposed based on the study of the hysteresis properties of the magnetic materials and the design criteria for implementing the variable magnetization process with current pulses are established. The feasibility of the variable magnetization is validated with experimental data and the motor functions and performances are numerically demonstrated and evaluated. The results show that the VM motor can maintain high efficiency by switching between two actuation modes. Controllable stiffness at different equilibria can be also achieved with the VM motor with instantaneous magnetizing current pulses.

Submerged arc plasma system combined with ozone oxidation for the treatment of wastewater containing non-degradable organic compounds

Submerged arc plasma technology was assessed for the removal of phenols from *** OH radicals generated from the boundary between the plasma and waste solution were considered as a significant factor on the degradation *** this study,the effects of highly energetic electrons released from the submerged arc plasma were mainly *** highly energetic electrons directly broke the strong chemical bond and locally increased the reaction temperatures in *** effects of the submerged-arc plasma on the decomposition of phenol are discussed in terms of the input energy and initial *** single use of submerged arc plasma easily decomposed the phenol but did not increase the mineralization ***,the submerged arc plasma,coupled with the ozone injection,was *** submerged arc plasma combined with ozone injection had a synergic effect,which led to significant improvements in mineralization with only a small increase in input *** decomposition mechanism of phenol by the submerged arc plasma with the ozone was analyzed.

Conceptual Design for a Kerosene Fuel-rich Gas-generator of a Turbopump-fed Liquid Rocket Engine

A design method for a kerosene fuel-rich gas-generator of a liquid rocket engine using turbopumps to supply propellant was performed at a conceptual level. The gas-generator creates hot gases, enabling the turbine to operate the turbopumps. A chemical non-equilibrium analysis and a droplet vaporization model were used for the estimation of the burnt gas properties and characteristic chamber length. A premixed counter-flow flame analysis was performed for the prediction of the burnt gas properties, namely the temperature, the specific heat ratio and heat capacity, and the chemical reaction time. To predict the vaporization time, the Spalding model, using a single droplet in convective condition, was used. The minimum residence time in the chamber and the characteristic length were calculated by adding the reaction time and the vaporization time. Using the characteristic length, the design methods for the fuel-rich gas-generator were established. Finally, a parametric study was achieved for the effects of the O/F ratio, mass flow rate, chamber pressure, initial droplet temperature, initial droplet diameter and initial droplet velocity.

An Effective Threat Detection Framework for Advanced Persistent Cyberattacks

Recently,with the normalization of non-face-to-face online environments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic,the possibility of cyberattacks through endpoints has *** endpoint devices are managed meticulously to prevent cyberattacks and ensure timely responses to potential security *** particular,because telecommuting,telemedicine,and teleeducation are implemented in uncontrolled environments,attackers typically target vulnerable endpoints to acquire administrator rights or steal authentication information,and reports of endpoint attacks have been increasing *** persistent threats(APTs)using various novel variant malicious codes are a form of a sophisticated ***,conventional commercial antivirus and anti-malware systems that use signature-based attack detectionmethods cannot satisfactorily respond to such *** this paper,we propose a method that expands the detection coverage inAPT attack *** this model,an open-source threat detector and log collector are used synergistically to improve threat detection *** the scope of attack log collection through interworking between highly accessible open-source tools can efficiently increase the detection coverage of tactics and techniques used to deal with APT attacks,as defined by miTRE Adversarial Tactics,Techniques,and Common Knowledge(ATT&CK).We implemented an attack environment using an APT attack scenario emulator called Carbanak and analyzed the detection coverage of Google Rapid Response(GRR),an open-source threat detection tool,and Graylog,an open-source log *** proposed method expanded the detection coverage against miTRE ATT&CK by approximately 11%compared with that conventional methods.

How has the disease course of pediatric ulcerative colitis changed throughout the biologics era?A comparison with the IBSEN study

BACKGROUND In Korea,infliximab was approved for use in children with ulcerative colitis(UC)in October *** To compare the clinical course of UC before and after the introduction of biological agents,and to compare with the IBSEN *** Patients under 18 years of age,who were diagnosed with UC and followed from January 2003 to October 2020,were included in the *** A(n=48)was followed for at least 2 years between January 2003 and October 2012,and Group B(n=62)was followed for at least 2 years between November 2012 and October *** compared endoscopic remission,drug composition,relapse rate,steroidfree period,and the quality of life of each *** plotted the clinical course of the included patients using the pediatric UC activity index score,and compared our patients with those in the IBSEN *** After 2 years of treatment,colonoscopy evaluation revealed different outcomes in the two treatment *** was confirmed in 14 patients(29.2%)of Group A,and in 31 patients(50.0%)of Group B(Pmilar proportions to the graphs in the IBSEN ***,in Group B,the proportion of patients corresponding to curve 1(remission or mild severity after initial high activity)was high at 76%(47/62).CONCLUSION The incidence of relapse has decreased and the steroid-free period has increased after the introduction of the biological *** clinical course also showed a different pattern from that of IBSEN *** active use of biological agents may change the long-term disease course in moderate to severe pediatric UC.
